After several months, I think my Opinion of Elixer is now firm.

This could possibly be the most boring protoge album ever.

I absolutely hate this thing. lol

I mean, it was really boring the first time I heard it. Then after a few weeks, I gave it another chance, and ended up not hating it too much. It even has a touches of genuine melody (not hinging on the Bria's voice whatsoever of course).

But after leaving it alone for a while then coming back to it for a third time, this thing is a steamy, pile of dung.

Does anyone else really dislike this thing?

It's a good thing I view lotusflow3r (the package) as a marketing and distribution package of 3 separate albums, than one work, cause Elixir threatens to derail the entire thing otherwise.

it took me once to figure that out and about a week to figure out how lame the entire project is. Bria may be boring, but I had no expectation of her. Prince's two disc contribution is a hollow imitation of himself which I actually find to be worse!

I don't remember where, but I seem to recall reading something to the extend of her music being better than Sade's. I knew it was impossible, but I didn't think it woulb be as bad as it is. My drinks sit nicely on the disc and keep my desk from getting wet.

I like a chunk of it. "Something You Already Know" and "Another Boy" are both awesome.

"Everytime" bores me though. I don't know why they chose that joint to do a video for.

It's odd cause Tavis said 2nite was the obvious 'single'.

I think he compared to Vanity's 'Nasty Girls' and Apple's 'sex shooter'.

To me, it's nowhere near as funky, and even sounds a bit like hearing a mildly talented teenager experiment with Apple's Garage band. lol

There are only 24 hours in a day and there is so much great music to play that I am not going to keep going back to elixer over and over again with "do I like it this week?" "How about this week?" " How about now?" it's right by the Kelly Clarkson CD that I also was told that I'd like alot. It's O.K. to stop trying to figure out what other people see in this CD.

I only listened 2 it once all the way thru... and that was enuff, pretty disappointing overall.

"HERE I COME", "ANOTHER BOY" and "KEPT WOMAN" r the standouts, by far, IMHO.

No surprise tho', most P protege albums (from the 90s onwards) have 1 - 3 good tracks (if u're lucky), not counting THE TIME, THE FAMILY, SHEILA E and those debuts from JILL JONES and MAZARATI - but all those r 80s albums, the 90s and 00s protege albums... yawn.

Plus those proteges had TALENT. As evidenced by their engagement in music AFTER leaving Prince.

I did what I said that I would not do. I listened to Bria's album several times. She does have a pleasant and sweet voice. She is certainly not a "belter" like Rosie or Shelby J. However that is not necessary to be a great singer. Dionne Warwick and Minnie Ripperton had beautiful voices and they didn't sing like Aretha and had careers. The problem with Bria's voice is it lacks personality. I don't think her voice is any weaker than the singer for "Everything But the Girl" it's just not a voice that distinguishes itself from other voices. Her cooing can easily be done by others so it can't become her trademark. The same thing is true of her photographs, her personality doesn't come through.
I know that Prince would have loved for her to grab the fans of Sade or Nora Jones but that just couldn't happen without some noticeable "style".
Also ANYBODY'S voice next to Prince's is going to get unfavorably compared to his and the weakness of that voice will be critasised. He should NEVER release another artists work packaged with his.

I actually like Bria's songs. I let the whole CD play and imagine I'm singing those songs to Prince. It's nice in my opinion and she has a pretty voice.

As bad as Carmen's and Mayte's were overall, they had some funky stuff on them, Bria's doesn't, it's laidback smoove listening, the kind of album u mite listen 2 when it's cold and raining, truth is tho'
, I'd rather pull out a SADE album any day of the week.

I don't HATE Bria, nor do I HATE the album, it's just not very good, and neither was TAMAR's unreleased "MILK & HONEY" 4 that matter.

Sorry ladies.

Well, to be fair, I think a lot of what we've seen thus far on this thread is not about hating Bria the person. People are discussing their disappointment in or dislike of her work. There is a difference. butterfly

That said, she has a nice voice.
