My favorite part was when Wendy & Lisa were both begging me to permaban 2Freaky4Church1, and then finally I was like "oh, okay, if you really want me to, I'll do it."

Then to thank me they did an impromptu acoustic performance of the entire PARADE album.

I hate it that I'm so tired that I can't keep my eyes open for any longer but I absolutely love it that I just saw this utterly cute 3 min. vid of them (too bad the image is of such bad quality)

Off to bed now, enjoy you orgies who are able to see this live wave

Anx, thanks so much again for arranging this, can't say how much I'm thrilled. Something to look forward to tomorrow!

Actually, that was an idea that may have also come from Prince via NPGMC (can someone refresh my memory?) back right before the Celebration in 2002. He announced he was doing the 7 nights, and he was wondering what should be done, like one album a night or something similar. Either that, or us fans were wondering if that was what he was gonna do. LOL

That was absolutely fantastic. They are such interesting, honest women. I can't wait until they release more music (Edith Funker, White Flag remixes, Lisa's piano, etc.).

Ustream shouldn't have two separate tabs for people to interact...or if so, the two methods should be side-by-side somehow so you can see both. That was kind of wonky.

hi everyone!

glad so many of you were able to make it to the LIVE stream today. I don't know what's up with the Ustream archive not posting straight away mad , so i am going to upload the back-up video i was running. it will just take me a beat to upload to youtube. but definitely by tomorrow afternoon.

sorry about that glitch! all this stuff is still a work in progress confused

and again, for those who still have questions, you can post them in the Q&A section of wendy & lisa's website.

thanks again for making these Q&As a success.

Renata, thank you so much for doing this. And, thanks to Wendy and Lisa of course.

This was wonderful. It really made my day, week, month, and year. I love hearing W&L discuss anything. Engaging, funny, interesting women.

Again, thanks. I'm really thrilled.

Interesting;

Fascinating points:

- They had little creative involvement on Planet Earth and Prince only used the vocals, not the other instruments he assked them to try. It was a case of here is the track, add this.

- They were pretty candid in that they really do want to get back with Prince and genuinely seem to feel lost without him.

- Inalargeroomiwithnolight was about the break up with Wendy and Lisa but told as if they left him.

- They were fired by Prince in the same house and room where murders had taken place

- Invisible was about Prince - glad they confirmed this as I thought so too, especially with the line 'When you were mine', although many ppl here at the time said it was about Wendy and Lisa's relationship.

I liked seeing the interaction between them both, it was quite fun, especially when they kept trying to jog each others memory!

- Lisa wrote Power Fantastic - such a beautiful and emotional song to me. I always thought it was 'isn't your life elastic' before too (instead of 'in your life at last')

Great insight to great musicians.

They said previously that it was a case of emailing tracks back and forth. But IIRC, they said before they only performed instruments on the tracks they featured on, no vocals.

Edit: Yeah, that's what they say here. They transferred the files back and forth, and they were instructed to only add keyboard and guitar. Sounds like he basically just wanted their names on the credits for reviews' sake. hmmm

I'd have to agree. They expressed that they think a Revolution reunion would be special and something they would like to do if offered the chance, but seem to genuinely understand that Prince is in a completely different place and will probably never warm to the idea.

The poster who said they feel lost without Prince might have meant within the context of the Revolution. When Wendy was talking about doing a Revolution reunion without Prince and how it just wouldn't feel right, how it would feel "weird," like Queen without Freddie Mercury.

Certainly in a larger sense, they are not lost, and they never alluded to that. They really have their shit together. They went right from the Revolution to a successful solo career. Not Prince-level successful, but successful nonetheless (especially overseas), and if you haven't heard their albums, they really are fantastic. They've recorded consistently with a plethora of diverse musicians, and scored a lot of films and TV series. And, they have families. "Lost" suggests they are sitting around, no money, waiting for Prince to call. No doubt, they'd like that call. But, they seem to accept its not coming and have never based their career on a Revolution reunion.

I think they were unavailable for the "brief-reunion" in 1999 because they were in Australia at the time, working with Neil Finn, if I remember correctly.

As for the Roadhouse Garden album, I'm still not sure what happened but I think it may be as simple as them being really busy with scoring at the time, and then by the time they became available, Prince probably had already lost interest (that's just speculation, but I could easily see that being the case). shrug

Yes, a question about the Roadhouse Garden album would have been good, I thought quite a few people asked that on here...is it too late to ask them?

The Question would be:
Around 1999, Prince alluded to the Roadhouse Garden album that he made with your involvement. He implied it could only be released if you gave permission for it. Have you refused permission for this to be released / have you been asked? If not, would you give it the OK?

Thanks,

I don't think Prince implied he needed W&L's permission, it was more an issue of him getting his panties in a knot because they wouldn't/couldn't do everything on his schedule and terms. (There was an interview with W&L at the time that sparked the "Lendy & Wisa" comment on the old L4OA site).

Really? I didn't hear anything that said they were lost without him. I'd like to be that lost. Guess I'll have to check it out in re-broadcast.

I can perfectly understand why Prince would not want to do a Revolution reunion. Those things always seem forced, cheesy and artificial. It would be nothing but a cash grab. Even Wendy refers to the financial motivations behind the idea. What would P have to gain by the whole thing? There would be no creative or artistic benefits. High School reunions always suck.

hmmm I don't know. She said it was a time when he didn't have Susannah in his life or them. So she seemed to have the history right. But the song lyrics don't have anything to do with a break up of any kind. To me, it's about how love is elusive and how the world in general is so messed up. But I see your point because Lisa brought it up right after.

anyone got the lyrics to the song In a large room with no light?

Lana drew a picture in school 2day
One that made her mother cry
A picture of a woman with a drink in her hand

Standing by a child with no eyes
Washington reaction based upon revenge
Babies blown 2 kingdom come

Damn the logic
Cartoon characters look better when they're on the run
Danny dropped the dime on his girlfriend

He said he didn't wanna go 2 jail alone
The seed lives in the same mind

With the thought that says we all should be stoned
And people lookin' 4 angels in the sky

Whenever they're broken-hearted
Love is grown, seeds are sown
A fire don't burn unless it's started
Did U ever feel that life was like lookin' 4 a penny
In a large room with no light?
A sophisticated man reduced 2 company in no-win situations
That aren't right
Everytime U wake up there's a little motherfucker
Talkin' big stuff in your face (Are U happy?)
U only get the kind of people that open their mouth
just 2 swap feet
Welcome 2 the rat race
Did U ever feel that life was like lookin' 4 a penny
In a large room with no light?
A sophisticated man reduced 2 company in no-win situations
That aren't right

Oh, if U could just pass your history class
Maybe life would be alright
Until then U'll be lookin' 4 a penny

In a large room with no light
Yeah!
Life {repeat 2 fade}

Interesting;

Well, the Menendez murders happened in '89 so apparently the firings happened BEFORE the murders not afterwards or that would have been coldblooded! Ironically, the Menendez brothers went to the movies to see "Batman" as their alibi.

Yup. The house where the Menendez murders happened was rented by Warner Bros for Prince to have a place to stay while in LA. Papa Menendez bought the property after Prince's time there.

I like how they are so honest but they really are like jilter lovers with Prince. They are so hurt and can't understand why he doesn't want to tour with them again.

That was one band that he had and he's had many...he moves forward and has no reason to play again with those particular musicians...what would be the point? It would look pathetic for Prince do even do so...they just don't get it.

I think they fully "get it". They've admitted several times that "This is something we would really enjoy, but we understand that he'll never do it."

And, they mostly talk about a Revolution reunion in the context of a single show or a couple of shows, not a full-fledged tour or any new music.

As for Prince, I agree, he doesn't necessarily have any incentive to do it, and he rightfully should just keep moving forward if that's what he wants. But, it would hardly, by any means, make him look "pathetic", at least in my opinion.

Sometimes looking back is moving forward as well. Bruce Springsteen reunited with his old band, making new music. The Roadhouse Garden project could have worked very well.

Like Wendy said, he doesn't believe in those musicians. He is going back in time with Sonny T and Michael B, just not the Revolution. But when I listen to the celebration with half of the Revolution present I hear unease. Prince jokes it off, but he is really not at ease with the Revolution. Oh well!

I think that they said the shootings happened after they were fired. I'll assume they meant that, because Prince had obviously vacated the home before the Menendez' purchased the home.

Prince is the one who is pathetic, his recent relesed music should speak volumes of his 'popularity' and 'musicianship'. Prince was at his best when he surrounded himself with inner-circle musicians who could be trusted. I think its B.S. that Prince can have W/L on beckon call to 'do stuff with his music' but when asked to do a reunion nite or even a short tour he shuns the opportunity! The dude is genius but just doesnt get the simple stuff, strange and weird...shelfish. What would one pay to have 'The Time' open up for Prince and the Revolution for lets say two months in Las Vegas at the MGM? 100.00-200.00 a ticket?.... I'll say it again, it will happen sooner or later, trust me.

Wendy and Lisa seemed to imply that Matt, Mark, and Bobby were broke or could definitely use the money. What do you think?

probably at different times in their careers between the break-up of the band and now there might have been times where one of them might have thought "hey, it would really help out if we could make some extra money with a revolution reunion", but for all we know, that could be for any number of reasons - to help get their kids through school, to help pay for a house, etc.

That's what I was thinking. I know Dr Fink released a cd a few years back, but other than that, are the other former Revolutionaries still in the music business? I mean if Marlon Jackson can sell real estate, I'm sure Bobby could sell insurance nod

lol, well, sure...! hey, at least we haven't seen any former prince people on any VH1 reality shows! (not that there's anything wrong with that if it helps pay the bills, mmmKAY?)

i don't know what bobby is doing these days. he did have a pretty good run as a producer for a while in the 90s. in particular, i remember some stuff he did with boy george that was really good, back when boy george was still making decent dance records. and of course, bobby had a solo album and did some stuff with W&L early on. i'd love to see him guest on a wendy & lisa project or do a guest collab with the family or something. seeing all the old revolutionaries in the mix somehow would be just about as cool to me as seeing a full-on reunion.

Which brings up a question, why couldn't the Revolution get together to record new songs ala The Family 2.0?

i like the idea. the thing that puts me off about a prince & the revolution reunion is that there will be expectations for it to look, sound, and have the same energy as when they were together in the 80s...and that's just not gonna happen. everyone has changed, everyone has mellowed to some extent, and it's going to be a different group of people. prince is still a showman and can get away with flamboyance and crazy onstage carrying-on, but i don't know if we need to see a fiftysomething bobby z. wearing a lace headwrap or if we need to see brownmark wearing a skimpy silk doily as a shirt in this day and age. and i'm not just saying that to be snarky - i'm just willing to bet they've grown out of all that. and it would be cool to just let them be THEM in a reunion project, which i think would be difficult (impossible) with prince involved. it'd be cool to see a revolution reunion where everyone's input was up front, and the end result was something more unexpected than a group of people trying to rekindle a magic best left in the past.

oh I have reservations about a full reunion also, the least of them being clothes. I imagine a repeat of the Brit Awards where we're all excited for this to finally happen and then he'll have Bria miked for vocals on Purple Rain instead of Wendy and Lisa.

But a Revolution project without Prince would still have his scepter hanging over it.

I think the problem is that there are so many fans that would want and even expect that. Flashbacks are cool but, there is no such thing as a time machine folks! pat ... These people are artists and many have ventured into other musical avenues. That's what being an artist is. Besides, the likelihood of a Prince & The Revolution project with complete synergistic qualites is something I won't hold my breath for.

I guess I'm not explaining myself well. What I'd be most interested in is a collaboration of the members of the Revolution where they bring their experiences from the past couple of decades to the table in a collaboration that showcases who they are NOW, as opposed to trying to cram into the image we had of them from the 80s. I would love it if the end result was nothing like the Revolution we recognized. I'd just like to hear what the fruits of such a collaboration would sound like, just on its own merits...not really to hear them trundling out all the Prince & the Revolution hits from the 80s. Prince does that quite well on his own. smile

I understood you, as you did very well explaining big grin. I was agreeing with you. I really really really would like to see the them come together and pull out something completely unexpected, different, and beautiful... It would be nice to see what/where everyone has grown into...

Makes me kinda wonder why Prince has chosen to keep some bridges (Sheila E) and burn others (W&L)... I guess that would be a new thread. lol

These girls are nothing but frauds. Yeah they believe in the power of surrender alright, trying so hard to ride that old Prince bandwagon to get sales, when I remember all they have done was talk shit all these years. Let's face it, the album is BORING, so boring it should have never been released. I admit "invisible" has class, but it stops there, and them trying to think "Salt and Cherries" could have been hopeful because of it's upbeat doesn't hide the fact it's still tasteless and boring. So what do they do when the world has no interest in such musical garbage? They try to pretend their part of the Prince bandwagon....shameful. If they truly want to ride that power of surrender, they should quit making their own music for the public. It's a shame they tossed their only good album that should have been sold.

pplrain is also a flop. One of those dog everything not with Prince direct involvement. I saw the Family Jamm with the Revolution and I actually liked their take on the songs they did far more than Princes Vegasy touches he tends to mar his live shows with.
So far the Family - or whatever they will be called - is much higher on my wish list than a new or the recent tragedy of Prince's recent material.

Just getting around to watching the whole thing... props to the ORG & W&L for making this possible.

I agree with them... their history with Prince is just as much THEIR history as it is his. No one can "own" your experiences, or restrict your memories. They should feel free to talk about their own past if they want.
