Right now it's a little weird to me - and I'll say this openly - to sometimes see entire discussions being dominated by people who signed up AFTER April 21st.

I understand that's it's par for the course, and I think a lot of these people will likely move on over time. But prior to April 21st, the community felt very tight and safe, and his passing has hit us like an atom bomb and scattered our sense of self as long term fans.

I'm absolutely not saying that there's not a place for new fans - there is and always will be. But prior to his passing, anyone who had been here for a few years, we were here when what he was doing wasn't newsworthy, when the public weren't checking for him, when he really needed us to be there.

And I could relate to damn near everyone. Because I can relate to anyone that at some point discovered Prince's music and fell in love - that's all of our stories.

What I can't relate to is people that only decided to become fans because he died and his death was mysterious and in the news all the time - and then they come here and barely talk about his music but only about his passing. I just..... I don't get that. The music is not secondary to anything. If that's your perspective then you missed his entire message.

It's different. Prince kept us on our toes in more ways than one! But the org will always be home.

What I don't understand, is people who seem to associate two different things to make it a fact.
People who signed up after 4/21 might have become fans way before that date, and even before the org even existed[/b] (I did)! The org is a website, and people's experiences with Prince, his music and concerts could have evolved independently from this website/the internet. You can be both a newbie here and a long-term fan, "and that's a fact!".

I don't understand why this is so hard to accept for so a called long-term fan (and moderator). It seems to me like a very obtuse approach to the Prince "universe". I actually was a Prince.org member for a while many years ago, but I opted out in the end, because I saw so much disrespect towards Prince on this website, and this from those so called long term fans... And that was many years before he passed.

I certainly don't mean this to cause an issue between us militant (you know I like you) but I still think your comments are too narrow and do not accurately reflect Prince's philosophy of inclusiveness (love 4 one another). I do understand what you mean though with regards to all the bad gossip, but in terms of what you say about long-term vs post 4/21 only, I think those comments are sligthly unfair for some genuine fans who recently joined up on here.

I mean come on, were you even born when the "real" long term fans started listening to his music?

So to answer the original question, yes I still do enjoy coming to the org, especially when it is not spoiled by harsh comments towards its members or unecessary gossip. And these two are not solely generated by newbies.

Thank you for so eloquently putting words to my feelings. I was writing a lengthy dissertation in response, but just decided to delete it. Will say this, I loved Prince from the first LP, but went MIA for years; doesn't mean I don't love him and am not a "real fan", and also, sorry that my presences on the org has annoyed some and diminished their enjoyment of the site.

I don't want Prince.org to become a them and us place but increasingly I think there are new people joining that feel guilt in some way for not being a fan over the decades, for being a huge fan at some point and then prioritising other things in their life - and that is normal. But I think they feel guilty that their once hero died and they need to catch up. But they have this false image that everything Prince ever did was genius. And that is not the case - those of us that stuck around did so through a lot of shit. Now that he is dead I'm glad I stuck around through the shit and, as a consequence, I don't feel the need to look at endless photos or discuss what stage of grief I'm at because I was there. I'm not saying newbies aren't fans - of course it's great that a new wave of people are joining the org, but please respect that some of us find it hard to know that we will never again be discussing new music (and by that I mean produced in the here and now) and seem swamped by a deluge of threads that either don't interest us or that we've seen many times before. Nobody has diminished my enjoyment of the site but I think Prnce's death has changed the dynamic of it and that's difficult for us that have been here since goodness knows when.

This site needs to change its name, keeping the name gives a sense of nothings changed while we're all devistated n grieving. It should reflect we're now wout Prince. How bout prince4ever.org

I feel you. I am not a new fan as I have been a fan since 1987. But some of the older fans who were around during 1999 or earlier can be condescending thinking because their older age they know more than me. And the more they know the more they don't. Some debates when they trying to argue with their facts, I really wish they picked up a Prince book or go to lyric sites and to get the meaning of the song. Prince was more than just his falsetto voice and the funky and Limm Drum beats and good andro looks.

I embraced new fans who came in here and I feel this page has gone conservative since April 21 and I am seeing more homophobia and queerphobia remarks on here that wouldn't fly before and what helped the former mods were LGBT and had them deleted with quickness.

I like coming here and seeing all these posts promising, “That's It! I've had enough! I'm leaving and I'm never coming back…”. Only to return four days later, and there they are again. Johnny On The Spot!

No matter how bad a day I might be having at work, seeing "zombies" going back on their word and raising up from the proverbial "dead" just cracks me the fuck up, everytime!

But not everyone who recently joined is a new or young fan. I'm 40 and have been a fan since I saw the Purple Rain tour as a kid. I've been lurking here and reading threads since 2003 but I never felt the need to join until now. Lipstick Alley has been my message board of choice for the last decade plus and that's where I post and where I used to moderate. Not saying the Alley is better, but they don't lock or delete threads just because somebody got a little sensitive about their fave. I totally apologize for newbies who may start or dominate threads, but I've seen questionable topics repeated over here for years by longtime members. Prince's penis size and sexual habits have been beat like a dead horse but this is the place to discuss all things P right?
yeahthat Me too, I'm neither young or a new fan. There's a lot of presumption and judging going on about newbies here who joined after his passing. I've seen just as many derogatory posts by long termers. Maybe the tone of the org has changed because a) P has passed on and b) there's a lot of angry and grieving people around who don't always see eye to eye. Blaming this just on newbies is childish Stop it.

I've been a Prince fan since his 5th album 1999 which debuted in 1982 and I well past 70. I enjoy reading the threads and never took the time to join or reply until recently. Have more time now that I'm retired. It is interesting to read what others have to say and the different theories. Will always appreciate Prince for his talent, vision and rigid work ethics and refusing to settle for second best. He certainly turned a string of negatives into positives and set the bar very high. He along with a few others blazed the path for today's aspiring musicians. From my perspective, he is to be applauded for taking a stand on what he believed to be right for him. Yes, some of the responses tend to be somewhat trite and mundane but then that's life and what helps to make it interesting. Kudos to the many long time community members.

I didn't post prior to Prince's death, I just came to see what was going on and I went on my way. I here a lot more since Prince past because I know the truth will come here. I also enjoy posting and conversing with the fam. I learn somethingnew everyday that I come. I just have 1 question about bootlegand unrelearsed recoreds-how do ya'll get them? How do you find out about them-some folks here talk about them like they are in the recoerd store.

Bootlegs used to be in record stores all the time. Still are some places. That said, never pay for bootlegs.

As for how we get them: https://www.google.com/webhp?ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

I was an Orger many years go but life got in the way and after Emancipation I stopped coming here or to the AOL P fan forum.

I came back here after April 21 as a way to deal with my grief.

I enjoy it as long as people play nicely.

Unfortunately, like everywhere else enjoyable, there are always bullies who ruin everyone's peaceful innocent fun.

sad
