I really hate the stupid threads made either by the new fans or the middle aged house wives always talking about what dreams they had of Prince, or they cried today thinking of Prince, or if his clothes are snug and tight, or his hair, etc...

There has been such an influx of these mindless threads that a lot of the veteran members don't post as much any longer.

I joined the org as the youngest member in 2002... Obv I have a new username now, but the majority of threads now are just junk.

DISCUSSING PRINCE'S SEXUALITY

DOES YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER MEET PRINCE

PRINCE'S CLOTHES SNUG TOO TIGHT

....

Let's discuss his music, history, not stupid stuff.

Yep x10000.

You know what though - those surface fans and slight obsessions - those people leave eventually so I wouldn't be too concerned about it. You can almost always tell the difference between a legit thread and a stupid one - just ignore them.
.
Maybe they should make a "Pointless Thread!" section to help us out hahaha

.

It's cool I guess. I probably shouldn't hate so much - I just ignore it.

I do, but our main reason for being here is gone - the collective anticipation is gone but I still enjoy the people here. They've helped me with much needed laughs...it was getting dire there for awhile.

If you want more substantive conversations and threads, start them and participate in them. Thats really easy.

Much easier than policing what others do in other threads you dont like.

You can create whatever discussion and environment you like here and discuss with likeminded others. It's always been like that, and will always be like that.

Exactly.

The thing that is so hypocritical about the ageist and sexist bigots on the org is that not a single one of them has ever criticized Prince for actually writing and performing in a sexually provocative way....not one.

But somehow it's okay to label anyone who discusses those things middle aged, stupid, etc.....

In other words, it wasn't wrong for him to do it, its just wrong to talk about it?

Like I said, my super power is the ability to detect BS a mile away. lol

...and a very high percentage of fans ARE middle aged, I don't see anyone calling the male's 'middle aged househusbands' tho. Funny that.

Prince was 57 middle age you say.....ain't nothin but a number baby...

excuse the fuck out of me but as a personal recipient of some nasty bullying here i can tell you without DOUBT there are some people on this website who DO go out of their way to put folks down for voicing opinions that don't jive with their own.

so sincerely fuck off with your disparaging comments about weirdos. THAT WAS A PERSONAL ATTACK. you BROKE THE RULES THERE.

the attitude of folks like you is what is in question here. seriously, who the fuck do you think you are?

you DON'T own this website.

you are clearly NOT an arbiter of good taste and judgment.

in fact here at the Org we have a Looonnng and well documented ORG history of bullies showing up on threads *they* deem to be unworthy and twisting these threads into a debate about their own worthiness, through personal attacks on those who are participating in and enjoying the threads.

so please fuck off with your attitude that YOU have the right to judge threads and those who participate on them. just fuck off with that shit

DON'T LIKE THE THREAD??? IGNORE IT.

This. Sooo.much.this. Bullies here on the org nod Thank you for speaking the truth XxAxX, we love you for that. hug

I still enjoy coming. In fact I've found more reason to come recently than before he passed - I think just good to be among like-minded people, and looking for some kind of resolution to it all...

.

And I can see myself continuing to come back. The man had a 40 year career - like someone said above there's so much to discuss, new stories to emerge (like that Austrian interview about him being shy), new music to appear, officially or unofficially. I mean, it's incredibly sad that it's all a form of archeology now, rather than exciting new stuff - but then as a fan of the 80s / early 90s stuff, I've always been more interested in details from that period - and I know a lot of fans have been.

.

Always seemed to be so many different kinds of Prince fans - and the boot traders / 80 or 90s obsessives sometimes feel like an entirely different group to those fans queuing for a Hit N Run gig or flying to Paisely. Maybe slightly more academic in their fandom. Personally, I found the whole "Prince Army" thing a bit of a turn off - a bit excluding and frustrating.

.

And it's not like The Org hasn't always had it's fair share of fluffy threads - like all the debates about whether the afro was a wig or not.

I don't even remember seeing it, but I really doubt it would have been removed without good reason. If you can remember the thread title I'll look into it, if you want.

Thank you Militant for looking up that wonderful thread it was called:

Can we discuss Prince in ...(explicit)

May I put in, that I have been a Prince fan since May 1979, I met the man in 79 in the LA area too. Although I am a post April 21 sign-up, I will say that this has been one of the better Prince sites I've visited. I've met some wonderful people here (Babynoz, NinaB, NurseV, LBrent, Mumio, GuitarHero, ACharmed1, Leslievette, Millionairess, Candace, MonkeyRose, Lucah, Jenjens and so many others) that I am happy to say my world has expanded exponentially.

Some threads may not be another's cup of tea but it just shows how much Prince's music and the man himself, has influenced all of our lives...and THAT fact should be celebrated as we all figure out how to continue in our own journeys of life without him here to help us through it all.

EDIT: Don't know what happened to the link because it takes me elsewhere, but at least you have the name of the thread!

I understand that's it's par for the course, and I think a lot of these people will likely move on over time. But prior to April 21st, the community felt very tight and safe, and his passing has hit us like an atom bomb and scattered our sense of self as long term fans.

I'm absolutely not saying that there's not a place for new fans - there is and always will be. But prior to his passing, anyone who had been here for a few years, we were here when what he was doing wasn't newsworthy, when the public weren't checking for him, when he really needed us to be there.

And I could relate to damn near everyone. Because I can relate to anyone that at some point discovered Prince's music and fell in love - that's all of our stories.

What I can't relate to is people that only decided to become fans because he died and his death was mysterious and in the news all the time - and then they come here and barely talk about his music but only about his passing. I just..... I don't get that. The music is not secondary to anything. If that's your perspective then you missed his entire message.

I'm to the same path of u well done militand thanks

To say the least, things aren't the same. Coming to org, maybe for reasons in me I don't understand yet, just isn't the kick it used to be. I don't think it's grief, I think it is more of a general feeling of, what's the use?

This forum has been kind and welcoming to me, and for that I am appreciative. There are my faves I love to troll here. But there is nothing to look forward to, and Prince always gave us something to anticipate. Perhaps, if the vault is cracked and begins to leak, I will feel differently.

It's different. Prince kept us on our toes in more ways than one! But the org will always be home.

What I don't understand, is people who seem to associate two different things to make it a fact.

People who signed up after 4/21 might have become fans way before that date, and even before the org even existed (I did)! The org is a website, and people's experiences with Prince, his music and concerts could have evolved independently from this website/the internet. You can be both a newbie here and a long-term fan, "and that's a fact!".

I don't understand why this is so hard to accept for so a called long-term fan (and moderator). It seems to me like a very obtuse approach to the Prince "universe". I actually was a Prince.org member for a while many years ago, but I opted out in the end, because I saw so much disrespect towards Prince on this website, and this from those so called long term fans... And that was many years before he passed.

I certainly don't mean this to cause an issue between us militant (you know I like you) but I still think your comments are too narrow and do not accurately reflect Prince's philosophy of inclusiveness (love 4 one another). I do understand what you mean though with regards to all the bad gossip, but in terms of what you say about long-term vs post 4/21 only, I think those comments are sligthly unfair for some genuine fans who recently joined up on here.

I mean come on, were you even born when the "real" long term fans started listening to his music?

So to answer the original question, yes I still do enjoy coming to the org, especially when it is not spoiled by harsh comments towards its members or unecessary gossip. And these two are not solely generated by newbies.

[Edited 9/15/16 9:32am]

Yes! All of this. I've been a fan, Fam, since Soft & Wet. He's been with me ever since. He is under my skin, in my heart and on my mind. His artistry, musicianship and the way he felt and fought for ownership of his works help to inform my perspective professionally. I lurked sometimes for a couple of years but didn't join because I don't like snarky, nasty, mean and/or judgemental people & energy. I joined after 4/21 and it even took me a minute to do that. I joined because I needed to be and feel connected with those who feel the same way that I do and understand. Not everybody does. This entire year has been so very busy for me, in a great way, and I don't have a lot of free time but I am on here almost everyday, when I should be sleep or packing, unpacking, working, etc... I'll leave threads when it gets nasty or mean or disresspectful but I still like being here. I still feel connected and there are some cool people here and that makes me feel good. prince peace

I am one of those who joined after 4/21. So, does that make me any "less" of a Prince fan? I've been a Prince fan since 1979. How long a member of a message board you have been has very little to do with how much of a fan you are, btw. I don't see the relevancy. I love and miss Prince just as much, if not more than the average person.

.

The fact of the matter is, most of the "hateful" comments come from the "long-time" members, not the news ones, from what I've seen on this board.

.

I think it's only natural that there will be more people to join the Prince Org since his passing. Many people want to share their experiences, grieve, discuss and remember the incredible & beautiful person that Prince was.

.

Most of us are nice people, but there are a handful that are not. I have to say, I feel like the older members are not very accepting of the new ones, and like what "CherryMoon" said....(.your comments are too narrow and do not accurately reflect Prince's philosophy of inclusiveness (love 4 one another). .

Oh lord, the conspiracy theory threads. I generally enjoy the more insane threads on here, I kind of like reading people's intense discussions of Prince hair or numerological "explanations" of his music but i'm starting to be worn down by it all. It's veering to the wrong side of MJ-style fandom and yeah that upsets me a little, mainly cos for all its silliness the org always had voices of reason in there, who are slowly disappearing.

A lot of the newer posters don't even seem to know 90% of Prince's history and are desperately playing catchup very loudly on many threads. I spent years on here just reading through stuff so I wouldn't be spouting ill informed nonsense and right now I find myself turning into Bart reading some threads.

And sure, no one's forcing me to read it, and if I don't like it I can just leave but it'll be a loss to me. The housequake facebook page is great (for example) but the org kind of had/ could still have a special vibe that allowed all types of fans in moderation. I'd just like to see that moderation return.

Oh, and that's not a dig at the mods themselves, just speaking generally. Mods can't force the more even minded people to post more.

I agree. I never would've imagined that the org would come to this. disbelief

Wise advice, trust me.

I got nuked for barely suggesting that the Dick Hanging Memorabilia could have wait a just a little,
but apparently it was an urge amongst the "healthy women above forty" congregation.
And even if I had trolled, there was no reason to deviate my remarks into accusations of sexism.
So, some hyena bit, I bit back, and armageddon ensued.

Ow Lawd.
One must be really stupid/dumb/idiot to think that a true Prince fan
can really be a misogynist/phallocrat/homophobic.

But hey, some like Playmobil® urns, watcha gonna do.
