The Sharing of Ideas........a violation of the "rules"

Can someone please tell me how the sharing of ideas on this forum is a "rules" violation.

I'd really like 2 know.

I come across 100's of World issues on a daily basis and share a few here, yet I'm getting orgnotes about how this is a violation of the rules. Does this make sense?

It's not my rule but at the very top of this forum it states:

"One last thing: PLEASE do not copy articles verbatim from other sites or post videos without comment! If you want to quote something, or post a video, fine... say where it comes from, provide a link, and also provide ANALYSIS and INSIGHT of your own. We're here to discuss and debate ideas we actually hold. So make your opinion clear, and remember to do so with civility."

So it's not against the rules to share ideas, only that you must share your own ideas in your own words. Or at the very least have some commentary on why you're sharing an article.

Out of curiousity - is it that hard of a rule to follow?

The idea of a discussion forum is to talk about the things you're interested in talking about. Why would anyone drop an article without being willing to give their own personal take on what's presented? Even when I link to something on facebook I note whether I agree, whether I think it's silly, etc.

I don't think it's asking too much of users to be willing to discuss what they post and why.

PS - I've got no skin in the game either way, it's not my site and I no longer moderate. Just posing for discussion.

Once I share the idea.............I always discuss.

The way I understand it, the sharing of ideas is encouraged, the sharing of outside content without including your own ideas, is discouraged.

If you bring a topic to discussion for all the participants of these forums, why wouldn't you want to jump it off and contribute to that discussion?

Why is this constantly allowed in the Music: Non-Prince forum? There are people who do nothing but post entire articles there. Half the time, they don't even bother to include a source link.

Maybe.

However, as the rule stands, it can't be difficult for posters, where they think that a topic is worthy of discussion, to post a link and provide, as the rule requests, some supporting level of their own insight and analysis from the outset.

So if someone were to start a thread by posting a link to a news item, I think it's also asking the poster to express their own immediate viewpoint. It doesn't demand a page thesis or paragraph by paragraph breakdown of the news report - but it also doesn't expect the OP to pay lip service to the rule by accompanying the link with something like - "I say 'This is wrong'. Your view?"

Rather, it is, I think, simply asking for a clear and simple description of the poster's own own take on the topic: why they think it is of interest to discuss; what their initial reactions are and why; and perhaps suggesting a few questions that could be explored that would help people debate the issue(s) at hand.

ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

If you are posting too many in a period of time that you can't take the time to formulate a insight, then cut back on posting too many threads that way you are not violating the rule...
