Reporting a Troll

How do we report an obvious troll when it's not just one THREAD, but the person?

I could click on "Report post", but this person is everywhere picking arguments and saying outrageous things. We'd be reporting a bunch of threads!

Telling me to ignore is not the answer.

I'm asking how we report someone who is not here to be constructive.... confused

(Dan, you're safe! hug)

Try sending an orgnote to a moderator, explain the situation that way instead of reporting a post/thread.

That, or report a few posts and show the trend.

Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

falloff!!!!

Well, I'm constantly being complained about in the artist forum and in P M&M, but it's normally complaints with little substance.

Take the artist forum for example:

If a person writes a dire piece of poetry, devoid of any real message or substance, and completely pretentious to boot, we should be allowed to tell them we dislike their art. We should be able to show them why we dislike it. And we should be able to criticize them for it regardless of how ugly it sounds.

There's a difference between saying, "Rebecca Black, your song Friday really sucks, and your voice irks me to now end. I wish you wouldn't put out shit like this.", and , "guRRRLL, you ugly and I wish you'd get anorexia because maybe then you'd be pretty. (Real trolling)"

I don't recall having ever lambasted a person for their looks or something deeply personal. And whenever I bring up something that sounds remotely personal, it's in reference to something they actually said. Like the one time some crazy ass orger likened me to a child molester, and even said I was racist and hated women. It takes a real leap of faith to assume such things, and I should be able to point out how insane they are about saying that. wacky Making shit up about a person...THAT's TROLLING. wacky

Finally, in the P M&M forum (or any other forum). People seem to have a real problem with others who have differring opinions from their own. Folks actually take it personally when I say that cancelling concerts at the last minute and not issueing an apology is a doche-bag thing to do (referring to Prince.). They then resort to name calling like "haters" bla bla blah. So will often poke fun at them using their own tactics, and they're not even smart enough to see what's happening. They just get more and more angry. Folks REALLY can not lighten up or accept that we all just think differently.

Overall, I agree with people when they say we should be more civil. I'm not always as civil as I can be, but there are lines that I don't cross. I will even report a person (and have dones so many times), when I see that they're getting personal with somebody. They should leave that shit to orgnotes if you have to get personal. And even then, expect it to be reported if you've crossed the line.

Things I've always thought were ok (I could be wrong).

1. That's the dumbest thing I've ever read

2. You're insane

3. You have no clue what you're talking about do you?

4. God, I hate your posts.... (with an explanation why)

THings I think cross the line

1. You're fat. You're ugly.

2. I'm going to kill you (This one is tricky for the mods, because friends say it to each other)

Or any personal attacks, slander, etc. that are of a very personal nature unrelated to

some dire, pretentious, meaningless poem that they might have posted.

I ain't no angel. I mean, I'm not nearly as spirited as Bart, but I do express my views.

I'm not perfect. But most of the people who have voiced complaints in the past

were trolls themselves (and no longer here btw), or really have no case.

BTW, if your poetry sucks, Imma tell you. Mine sucks. Just criticize mine. shrug

The arbitrary nature of moderation on this site (read: the lack of any real modding at all) lets both of your crossed-line things through. I've had people call me ugly, old man (wtf?), and had people follow me around on posts not about or directed at them and reply to it with a detailed description of how they were gonna kill me.

However, Prince.org is pretty much free-for-all. The only reason to stay within "the rules" is to keep your post count or your account originiation details. Other than that, why bother?

The attitudes around here are piss poor.

[Snip - luv4u]

They can't get caught cuz the mod team is either vacant, disenchanted, or a fuckin bimbo.

That being said, since Prince has locked this site down so hard there's no possible way of income for it (other than the active members buying something like cafepress tshirts with the site logo), there is zero and I mean ZERO effort. Zero.

Not "oh a little stuff behind the scenes" no. Sorry, no.

The broken links are still broken.

Loading replies on photo threads is STILL an issue - has been for years.

The modding in the past 2+ yrs has been pitiful, partisan, and pathetic.

The site is in a slow, and I mean slow, crawl towards utter fucking death. I just can't wait to see whose words or what event will be the camel to break the straw's back. smile

Yeah, I kinda figure that out too. I've been here for a few months and it's obvious that the rules aren't always being applied. It just depends on the circumstance...I guess.

And I, too, have experienced some "childishness" at the hands of fellow orgers. It's gotten to the point where I had to "remove" myself from a discussion or two. I mean, when you are being called ignorant or a bitch for that matter over an opinion...that's sad.

there is no solution; inside sources say that most of the trolls themselves are actually mods who spend time here trying to get attention from inadequate senses of fulfilment, and have chosen Prince's name to get this; trolls will not go away & u r better off perceiving this site as a source of information/updates/or recent pics, as opposed 2 a real gathering of fans.

I am not so sure what constitutes a troll. The only person I ever reported to the mods was mzkqueen03 and that was because she would get on a thread and post comments one right after another. Her comments alone were almost a full page. Then someone would comment and she would get right back on that thread and give 2 comment again for their one. It got to the point I didn't know what the hell the thread was about anymore. All the threads seemed to be about her eventual marriage to her religious leader and that meant Prince.

Everyone else I just sort of work my way around. I think that orgers need to simply ignore some people. Just pretend they never even posted at all. There are too many thread and too few mods to expect them to stay on top of everything.

How many mods are truly active mods anyway?

I started this thread because I was wondering how to handle someone who seemed to be popping up on every other thread, starting petty arguments about things that didn't even make sense half the time. She'd get stuck on something someone posted and just keep belaboring the point, accusing the person (or people) of being alters and people close to Prince.

In isolation, her comments seemed kind of benign, but if you paid attention, a pattern was forming throughout PM&M, AA, and sometimes GD. It became hard to ignore her, because she was EVERYWHERE for a while. omg

But that was almost a month ago. Either she got bored, or I got busy. I went back to work, so I'm not on as much... shrug

I was surprised to know that people were still posting on this thread. lol

The only way to discourage a troll is to ignore and report them...people keep forgetting that and end up giving them more attention, which is what they really want.
