What a Long, Strange Trip Its Been... (My Reasons, My Life)

Hey Orgers! Long time no see!

I've had one hell of a year! Hell, make that one hell of a couple of years.

I've been through a lot this year especially, though, and found that I couldn't take care of my personal life and maintain a strong position on this board too. I took a much needed break and now I'm making a strong effort to get back in the moderation mode here at the Org.

I've been out of touch with the orgers here, and there's so many new orgers too. I want to make an extra effort to get to know you guys better, which will allow me to moderate the goings on here better, or at least more effectively.

In '06, my wife and I split up after almost twenty years of marriage. We have three kids and it was a major blow to our secure family life, and sense of self. ??? Whatever that means.

In late '06, I bought a condo so that my kids could visit me and feel that they aren't stretching too far from what we used to have together. Since she stayed at our beautiful house, I wanted to live somewhere where the kids felt just as well with me. I proceeded to put things in the house and get in over my head, but I had a plan. Together, my Ex and I have a pending settlement with her job that will pay very well, we won the case, and I figured it would pay off in a couple or three months. Well, let me put it this way. We're still waiting for it. They have been stalling for well over two years now, even though the judgement went in our favor.

Anyway, my bills went up and over my head until I found myself in a very bad situation. My credit just three years ago used to be 780+, now, I don't even want to know what it is. I lost my condo, went into great debt, and am considering bankruptcy. I'll deal with that too.

So, what do you do when all else seems like it can't get any worse? You decide to quit your job and take on the same position at a rival company with a better deal, right? Right. I left Barnes & Noble after being wooed by another bookstore with a better financial offer. I start there Wednesday. It could work or it could slam me back in my face!

Anyway, here I am. Going through what I'm going through and noticing that I was spending less and less time here at the Org.

I'm getting used to the craziness that my life has become, and attempting to bring it to some sort of normalcy... I started checking in here more often and decided that I think it's time for me to get my ass in here more often.

I hope what I wrote makes sense to you. I hope that you know it wasn't easy for me to talk about all of this financial crap that I'm going thru, but it's getting easier and easier for me to talk about it.

And second of all wow you have been through hell and back. Divorce is no picnic, I know all about that personally.

Congrats on the new job I think that is just the start of things positive to come. This new job I hope will help you avoid filing for bankruptcy

Things are going to get better and the new job is just the beginning to getting back on your feet one step at a time.

I can totally relate to your post - being about the same age - and feeling like the past few years (1-2) have been a financial challenge . I cant relate to the divorce - but i am married 11 years so you had a few years on me !

You seem to have a great attitude through all the trevails life has given ya ! keep your chin up - we will all make it thru the rough patches and become better becus of it !

(on a personal note- if you consider the bankrupsy root - chat with me first ... about 15 yrs ago i felt i had no choice - and i question my choice almost every day now ... )

Wow, that's something. Thankfully, you are still in your right mind and you are here. You are on the road to recovery and thank God for that. I hope your new job is even better than your old one, in ALL areas. Keep your faith strong and keep on pushing on the right path man. We support you!

Prince.org is a cemetery where folks mourn Prince instead of celebrate him and his music. Last time I checked, Prince isn't dead yet.

Sounds like tough times. I hope all goes well with you and the kids. That's got to be tougher than I can possibly know.

Do NOT declare bankruptcy. It won't do a thing for you except put your money's control in someone else's hands - a bankruptcy trustee.

Just keep moving forward. Creditors settle all the time. Check out www.daveramsey.com for some good advice.
