Is P&R needed?

With the numerous issues in the past regarding moderation, the vile attitudes of some, and the name calling, why is this forum still in existence on a musician fansite? No good comes from it. All people do is fight in that place. Certain people get away with cruelty because they've conned moderators. Why can't it be removed like the love and relationships forum?

i wouldn't be heartbroken at all if P&R went the way of the dinosaur.

but then we'd have political-themed threads popping up in general discussion, and the same energy would pop up and infect GD.

so maybe it's better that all of the...shall we say EMPASSIONED DEBATE, lol...remain in its own forum.

Couldn't politically-themed threads be banned?

no.

that would send a message that discussing politics in and of itself is somehow inappropriate within a community, and speaking at least for myself, i would not feel comfortable moderating these forums for "political content". no no no!

but for the sake of argument: even if we tried, we would eventually, sooner than later i'm sure, run into the problem of how one defines a theme as "politically-themed" and we'll have droves of moderator requests demanding we lock M*A*S*H appreciation threads and discussions about U2 lyrics.

no. that's not a viable idea. not at all.

no good at all? discussing important topics that affect your daily life is futile?

you may not like everything that's being said, but that doesn't mean it's not important.

I think those topics should be discussed among people who truly know each other well and can respect their differences in opinion

well, they can be. and it's perfectly alright to discuss them with folks in an online forum. if there is disrespect, that reflects on the people participating, just as it would in a r/l situation.

I remember the days before P&R and GD was filled with threads about stuff like spirituality and world affairs. So full in fact, you could hardly find the important threads about pants and sex stuff.

You could say the same of many forums on this site. Do you really want to be left with Fan Gatherings and 3121 discussion?

I see nothing valid about wanting to stifle other's speech just because you're uncomfortable with it.

There are those that are impervious to moderation, but that is a moderation issue, not a forum issue.
Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it.

Yes, why can't we just remove and ban everything, so that it will be all nice & quiet?
smile

As for the 'fights' - I think these can be safely called 'arguments' - like in arguing/discussing a case or opinion.
For my part, I'd rather have a few fights in the midst of a debate than a mass of passive amen/yes-saying souls.
Often from a fight, I learn something.

It took me a long time to get it but face it: If you don't like it, don't go there. Easy! biggrin I'd love to go discuss shit there with the american elections coming up but until new mods are appointed and it's properly harnessed I'm not even peeking in the door.

Why do you feel the need for such protection? If someone insults you, either stick up for yourself or ignore them. Just as you would in "real" life.
