Celebration Day 2 Review

Started with 45 minutes of the historic Jan 21 2016 show 1. I really dont need to say anything else. Appropriate way to begin this sacred day with a sacred performance. My only issue is they should have showed all of it. Show 1 is a story with a beginning and an ending. The crowd was left hanging. I would rather spend more time on the videos from the vault than the other stuff.

Next was a panel with his photographers. They shared great stories. The most interesting thing is they said his eyes changed colors depending on the day. Sometimes green, light brown and even gold.

Next was the Revolution panel. Great stories and all very likeable people.

I skipped lunch (food not great) and sat through a panel with Femi and the guy that made the cloud guitAr. Good stories. He bought his telecaster for $30 from
at a gas station.

Last was the Revolution concert. They did a good job and they had Stokley from
mint condition singing lead sometimes. They get it. They understand this isnt 1984 and they are there to have the fans take control of the songs. Two highlights were henndoing Our Detiny and Roadhouse Garden.

seems like the other half would be the perfect video for 2morrow cool if i could only make one prince release wish come true, it would be for this show to be made available on dvd 4 every1 or at least shown in its entirety at paisley park regularly. what a treasure 4 every1 who loves prince.

Yes. It was a nice surprise to hear those two songs. They did all of the other standards from their hey day. Are you asking me what did I wear? Just a blue sweater.

DAY 2 was FANTASTIC.

The piano/mic show from Paisley Park gave everyone goose bumps.

This show was much much much more 'confessional' than the regular tour.

And the way he did the songs in sort of a chronological order really made it feel like Prince was closing things down and giving us this gift.

It was spell binding to hear him talk about his father.

The Panel sessions were good - still think these should be 'meatier' or scrapped so we can have a proper tour.

The Revolution concert was AWESOME. They did a really great job.. even flubs were endearing like when Wendy kind of screwed up the song Paisley Park.. you were just rooting for her to get it on track and she totally did..

MUCH MUCH MUCH better day today than yesterday

Missing him like crazy tho.

Pretty cool, they said they would be added more songs.

I've been talking with a few people I'll be going to one of their shows with and everyone wants to get styled for the show.

Glad U had a good time.

I saw Van Jones, Kim (hair stylist), Shelby J, Donna Grantis and her husband, a woman that is a famous white actress that looked like Jodie Foster to me but I get them confused (white folks actually do look alike), I think I saw Venus Williams (before you go there, how many 6' 2" chocolate black women are there? It had to be her), and a few other "famous" folks. Shelby was crying during purple rain. The revolution did a good job with it. It was a community thing and the focus was not on the band.

Joking. Something to lighten the mood. I do think it was Jody Foster.

I have to agree, the tour of the facilities is a shame for the people coming for the first time. They basically have stripped everythng that was in the soundstage and Love 4 One Another/NPGMC room. The D&P, SOTT, Lovesexy rooms, and his office are roped off so that you can't enter the rooms. They have enough staff in there this weekend that they could have just put a person in each room if they were concernced that people would want to touch stuff. It was very emotional being there today. I was so glad when they announced the showing of the P&AM show from Jan 21, 2016. That HAS to get released. Van Jones stood next to me on and off during the Revolution show. eek lol

Susannah joined for several songs. Sadly, Wendy and Lisa did not play Sometimes It Snows In April. To me, that was the highlight of the First Avenue shows last year. Hopefully they will include it in their setlist on their tour.

That is Rob "Fonksta" Bacon who is a great solo artist and has been guitarist with Chaka Khan, Raphael Saadiq and Arsenio Hall's last TV show band.

Day 2 was amazing. The Revolution concert was emotional across the board. Everyone felt the emotional highs and lows of a performance from the Revolution without prince. Sometimes It Snows in April was a just a brutal emotional rollercoaster.....in all of the best ways. Mad props to The Revolution. That alone was worth the trip. Can't wait for Morris day and the time today.

They said something about it being too heavy for this show, but it is a part of the concert set

I saw Jesse Johnson last night. He did a great version of Purple Rain and when you were mine. Told a funny story of how him and Prince went to some girls house and she had done number 2 and didnt flush the toilet and Prince left. Jesse put on a good impromtu type of set. Not much of it was rehearsed. He looks great and plays great.

They played Sometimes it Snows in April at the late show (but not the earlier one apparently.) It was pretty heavy. Wendy said that not many people know this but that she and Prince wrote the song on April 21, 1985 and he died on April 21, 2016 and here we are on April 21, 2017...

If I could have made it to the Celebration, the panel with Takumi and Dave Rusan would have been one of my main events to check out (Prince guitar geek). If anyone knows if it was recorded (audio or video) please do let me know.
