Reports of the new Paisley Park After Dark dance parties and film screenings

On Friday, December 3rd, a Paisley Park After Dark dance party and film screenings began to be held on a weekly basis on Friday and Saturday nights.

Would those that are fortunate to attend, please share your experience here?

Thank you!

I see the DJ sent a tweet out yesterday that the cover for the dance party was $25, although I doubt many people saw that. Paisley Park didn't tweet it. I'm going tonight and will report back.

Paisley Park just posted this on Twitter regarding both last night's dance party and tonight's first film screening:

"Last night was very special. #PositiveNRG #Music #Dancing #Community #NPGMusicClub. Next up #SignOTheTimes 2Nite! #PaisleyPark #Prince"

I went to PPAD tonight. You have to take the tour in order to see the movie. $70. Hopefully they will change that. Watching the movie in Paisley Park was so surreal. Everyone hung out in the L4OA/NPGMC room until they allowed us into the soundstage. They have put 2 of Prince's cars in there, the purple prowler and the light blue bentley. They had put chairs in there for everyone. I mean who would sit through SOTT, but they did. It was so nice to see old security staff working there and they were happy to see me too. Nothing unreleased was shown.

I was there, too, and was surprised it wasn't a little more dancey and animated. I'm not much of a dancer myself, but I seriously thought about getting up and grabbing people's hands to get up. I just kept wondering how we could be in Prince's house and not dance?

It was kind of cool to watch SOTT in the room where parts were filmed (re-filmed), though. This was my first time in the Park.

My favorite part of your report was hearing that the security guards and you were happy to see each other.
It is so nice to know that some people were able to keep working there.
Prince would love that.

Too soon maybe? It seems odd to me that anyone would want to dance with his ashes in the other room.

Do you think people should just sit and be mournful the whole time? I'm pretty sure that is not what Prince had in mind when he decided that he wanted Paisley Park to become a museum. Prince enjoyed watching people dance and having a good time there, so to me that's what he would want us doing.

If Prince had left a will, maybe he would have ordered people to leave their cell phones in their cars and dance. I would like to think he would have done that. He didn't though. So people can mourn however they want. You are basically visiting a gravesite when you go to Paisley Park now. Not only that, it is the place where he died. And all I'm saying is that dancing might be the last thing on someone's mind. But I support it 100%.

Agreed, people can mourn however they want. I guess it all boils down to how you want to see Paisley Park now. Personally, I have great memories of being there and want to continue that and enjoy his musical legacy. Yes he died there and his ashes are there, but to me that doesn't mean it should only be considered a gravesite. If all people are getting out of going there is that, I truly feel bad for them. It is so much more than that! This was my 3rd time going since it has been open as a museum, so maybe that had something to do with me feeling ok to dance. I guess on my first visit I didn't feel like dancing either.

U don't have to explain ur conduct to anyone Motherfunka. U have probably been to Paisley more times than anyone on here & for a longer time period. U have lasted more than most staff there! Prince, his music & Paisley were about enjoyment & feeling & it's fantastic that u continue to go there as it must be difficult for u. There will be teething problems at Paisley but I hope there will be concerts, screenings, scholarships, dance parties & more for years to come. The opportunities are endless as there is so much music there. I'm looking forward to going in two weeks time. Also I would like to thank you for all ur posts over the years. Very insightful & informative from a true fans perspective!!

SAY IT LOUD, I'M PURPLE & PROUD. 💜

Thanks Kookooman73!!! I, like a lot of us, was devastated at the loss of Prince. I thought I would never have another opportunity to go to Paisley Park again. They are doing everything that I had hoped for. It is great to be able to go there to celebrate and remember him in the place that he loved most. I felt it was too soon, but it is what it is and I love being there. It is hard though, knowing that he will never stroll by me again. cry I'm glad you are able to come! Have you been before?
