Hey retrodandy, I was there at the Robin gig, the first time I'd seen the band but it won't be the last.

Here's my review (from memory;

So, we went to the Robin in Bilston,
Wolverhampton last Friday to check out Prince tribute band
"Endorphinmachine". We were a little sceptical but within 5 minutes
we knew we were watching a tribute band that are true Prince fans as well as
great musicians.

Special mention to fellow orger Paddy (padstar) who playes lead guitar in the band.

He nailed all the guitar licks and also played a mean rhythm on "Kiss". As soon as I saw the
guys setting up, and I saw the Honer, plus replicas of the White Cloud and Blue
Angel guitars, I had a feeling we may be about to see something rather good.

The band took to the stage at around 9:30pm as a montage of Prince samples
played in the background. On walked "Prince" looking circa '93 with
semi typhoon hair, beard and wearing the outfit from the "U Got The
Look" video.
They predictably opened with "Let's Go Crazy", however that was about
as predictable as it got during the first half, the band showing their
versatility and range as they tore through songs such as "I Feel For
You", "Dorothy Parker", "Soft & Wet", and
"Mutiny". Looking around the floor, I could see the true Purple
fans enjoying the set list of the first half, but some casual followers
scratching their heads. Me? - I was loving it.

The band are strong. There is a horn section, great lead guitarist, bassist and
keyboards. You cannot really fault them. They have honed the tunes really well
and are obviously on a mission to get as close to the live Prince band sound as
they can. This was evident during the jazzy version of "Dorothy Parker"
and "Sign 'o' The Times" I and Could Never Take The Place
Of Your Man" which mirrored the SOTT movie versions.

"Prince" himself? Well apart from being around six foot two in
his heels(!) he sings very well, covering all the vocal ranges you would require
to be a Prince impersonator. His falsetto is strong and he does an excellent
Prince scream which he nailed on "Darling Nikki" and Computer Blue.

After a 20 minute break, the guys opened set two with "SOTT", the
lead guitarist tearing into the intro akin to the SOTT movie. Brilliant stuff.
The crowd soon whipped up and the dance floor finally filling up after a barren
first half, until the band got to "Kiss".

Finishing the show by playing almost the whole of the Purple Rain album, and
finally ending with 1999 at around 12:45am, for a tenner a ticket, it was an
absolute steal.

I was chatting to a couple of guys after the show who reckoned this lot are not
as good as another tribute band "Purple Reign". I cannot
comment, as I've not see them, but if they are better, then they
must be the NPG in disguise. All I would say is that, if you got to see
"Endorphinmachine" don't go with your Prince blinkers on. Go
to enjoy the tunes, an extremely competent set of musicians who are evidently
all Prince fanatics, and you'll have a great time.

I would see these guys again in a heartbeat. Very entertaining and a great
tribute to the man himself.

My wife did get some footage on her mobile, but the
sound does not come across well on the film (crap phone!) so I think it would be
unfair to post as it would not do the guys justice, so I'll just leave
the review.

can remember it.

Well! what more can i add? a great review, you obviously have a good set of ears on you! yeah i loved it too, as for purple reign? well they are the ones who do vegas, i've not seen them live but there's a lot on youtube, personally i haven't been impressed by what i've seen, i think the purple rain outfit combined with the 'Gett Off' do rag kinda threw me a bit??? eek but yeah i've seen Endorphinmachine a few times now and actualy had the pleasure of doing a photoshoot for them a few years ago, all totally Prince mad, to actually do the 'Jay Leno version' of Dorothy Parker alone takes some big purple balls, but they do it so well! other Prince tributes i've seen do guitar solos, these guys do THEE guitar solos, pretty much note for note, you can't really say fairer than that i suppose! but yeah i'm gonna try to make the Leeds gig on the 13th of may at The New Roscoe, but i'll deffinately be at The Moses Gate gig on the 31st August, that's near Bolton so not too far from where i live at all! in all mate a great revue of a great band playing great songs really well, and some of the purple one's sense of humour in there too! a brilliant night! and yes, my lady did notice the screams in darling nikki, nearly blew my head off!
