Thanks guys. Really looking forward to listening to this - all 3 hours 44 minutes and 24 seconds. I can't quite believe how long this one is; you lot must have been exhausted by the end.

I'M Disappointed that its not on the main page as a sticky, i did ask! A brilliant episode guys. You should be really proud of this one. I love the fact you are such big Prince fans but at the same time not in a OTT way. In that you say it as you see it/hear it. If I was in charge of the estate, you guys would be getting keys to the vault to look through it and see what you think should be released. And in what way. I don't agree with everything you say about the songs, but of course, that's the beauty of it. The main thing for me is your obvious love of the music on the whole, and for all Princes faults, respect of the legacy or things he was trying to achieve. All your hard work is appreciated. And just to give you a laugh, My wife is well happy, as I did all the garden, when listening to your show on my MP3 player! The hedge the grass, the lot! So I'm in the good books too! Everybody wins!

Oh Lawd!

.

First you need to leave Photobucket and go to imgur and get a free account there. My posts on Stampboards.com all went down with that Dial of Death as well, and myself and several other members there have been transferring them to imgur and re uploading them.

.

Now the review, and I mean wow, please this is humour, but I was a bit disturbed mostly by Captain's opinions of the masterpieces on this CD.

.

MC (Rob Esse) - Totally agreement, you have taste and vision, your defences of Electric Intercourse and We can Fuck will not go unnoticed. Our opinions are fairly similar here biggrin

.

Toejam and Playa - Agree and Disagree, but get what you are saying

Captain - Seriously dude, WTF , your opinions (EI 4/10 eek) and no disrespect, but 1896 called and wants you back lol

.

I loved the reviewing though and your guys effort and even admitting for a posthumous release, this is great and I would go further and say this is the best thing put out for any artist who has died since the 1990s (Several Hendrix releases are better). The only true filler on this album is Velvet Kitty Kat, which I agree, really is a demo designed for the vault (Toejam/Playa - I always get you two mixed up for some reason, but never confuse MC or Captain). Computer Blue, EI, We can fuck and Fathers Songs are just blinders from the start.

.

My ranking of the songs (Using the 12 song system)

.

1. We Can Fuck 922/10

2. Computer Blue (Hallway Speech) 12¼/10

3. Electric Intercourse 10/10

4. Dance Electric 10/10

5. Fathers Song 10/10

6. Road House Garden 9½/10

7. Wonderful Ass 9½/10

8. Possessed 9/10

9. Katrina's Paper Dolls 8½/10

10. Love and Sex 8/10

11. Our Destiny 8/10

12. Velvet Kitty Kat 6/10 ( I really was expecting something dirty and steamy here).

.

We can fuck has probably hit my Top 5 of all Prince songs and its up there. As much as I love Electric Intercourse this version, my first hearing I did not like so much, but it grew on me. Maybe it could grow on Captain too, but this is a Prince fan who did not like Do Me Baby, and called Purple Rain - just a song. biggrin

.

Sorry Captain, you just crack me up.

.

Thanks for doing this guys, enjoyed every minute of it.

I thought that was a more than obvious joke at MC's 4/10 rating of Batman, apparently not so obvious...

I picked that up too, but I felt you really thought Electric Intercourse was a 4/10 song. Plus why do you guys forget MC gave NewPower Soul 3½/10, that was hilarious.

No replies in 3 days, I think the org has declared war on fan content. Been thinking of leaving the org for weeks, too many damn angry women and crazed rosa fans here now. Nearly every thread degenerates into a screaming match with certain ethnicity females leading the march.

I caught that. Good little joke. It's too bad that MC/Rob stopped giving number ratings so long ago. It's fun to have the numbers(although certainly not necessary), especially when there's the added fun of listening to one person strive for consistency(?).

Nice show guys. I agree overall that disc 2 is great to have. Yes, there are problems, the packaging could be better, maybe wrong era for songs, etc. But overall, it's friggin awesome to have new/old Prince songs in my ears, including some that I/we never knew existed.
.
My ranking.
.
1. We Can Fuck 10/10
Great song. I like all versions, and this one is probably the best. The scream as a harmony/backing vocal at the end of the "blow the candle out" section is AWESOME. Who does that? wink The sex talk borders on cheesy at moments, and I miss the Eric Leeds(?) horn line and even "I'm testing positive for the funk". But the drums, backward masking, and relentlessness of this version kicks ass.
.
2. Possessed 10/10
This is the best studio version hands down of this song that I've heard. The music is ahead of its time and really captures the "possessed" theme of the song.
.
3. Computer Blue (Hallway Speech) 9.5/10
The additional musical elements are awesome and so is the second verse, but let's be honest, some of the additional lyrics are pretty cheesy. I don't think this would've been the monster song with the critics because of that. "Wave your hands in the air", "now everybody sing...", seriously? C'mon. His audience call outs on DMSR were a thousand times better. "Poor, poor lonely computer" is ok but not stellar either.
.
4. Wonderful Ass 9/10
Amazing except for the fake high hat, which is extremely irritating. If I crank it loud, the high hat doesn't bother me for some reason. But at normal volume -- argh!

5 - 8. Roadhouse garden, Love and Sex, Dance Electric, Katrina's Paper Dolls 8/10

9. Electric Intercourse 7.5/10
Good lyrics and music, but the vocal delivery is bad. That warble is irritating. This would probably be a lower rating, but the existence of live version gives it a boost.

10. Velvet Kitty Cat 7/10

11. Father's Song 7/10

12. Our Destiny 5/10
Lisa's vocal is pretty bad unfortunately. I like Lisa. She's a good piano player and funny in how direct she is in interviews. But she isn't a good singer, and his songs suffers as s result.

Overall, it's great to have all these songs, although OurDe is a little lackluster. More of this kind of release would be great.

Epic review fellas, this kept me entertained during a fairly monotonous day at work so thanks for that. There was a lot of fantastic analysis going on, and I enjoyed it a great deal despite your opinions differing from mine hugely on occasion (I can forgive Toejam's quasi-dismissal of Father's Song because of his brilliant review of We Can Fuck wink )

I did have quite a few thoughts and comments about stuff you guys said while listening, but I've forgotten most of it tbh, will edit this message if any come to mind.

Well that certainly was sexist and racist. It's sad to see those kind of ideas expressed on a Prince site.

As a response ... I'm pretty sure there are at least several dozen people of every major racial/ethnic category (in the US) using the Org and hundreds or probably thousands of women. And you're probably complaining about, let's say, 6 people, a couple of whom aren't even of that ethnicity. So you've defined a specific race and gender as a problem based on the actions of a very few members. Ugh.

Thinking of leaving? Great idea. Come back in 6 months when you've hopefully grown up a bit. Bye.

I really enjoyed listening to this. I always enjoy listening to you guys. This is one of the few Podcast that I make a point to support. I appreciated the love everyone gave to Wonderful A$$. Perhaps my all time favorite song now. I expected the first 3 rankings in the survey, but the rest threw me off. I absouletly love Katrina's Paper Dolls and didn't think it deserved to be number 11 at all. Thanks to the one guy (sorry, I don't have all your names straight yet) that said KPD could have been a hit for another group in the early eighties. I wholeheartedly agree!

*

This is how I would have ranked...

*

1-Wonderful A$$ -10

2-We Can F**k -10

3-Electric Intercourse -10

4-Computer Blue -10

5-Katrina's Paper Dolls -10

6-Love And sex -10

7-Dance Electric- 9

8-Possessed -8

9-Father Song-8

10-RoadHouse Garden -8

11-Velvet Pussycat -6

12- Our Destiny -5

Just wanted to say what a humdinger of a podcast that was - I'm going to listen to it a second time it's that good! Well done chaps - superb. One of the main things about your podcasts is that it makes me want to revisit the music again to hear the things I didn't hear initially. Toejam's critique of "Computer Blue" and "We can fuck" excellent examples of this, both. Phew! Made me want to go straight back and hear them again from a different aspect. The Hallway Speech version of Computer Blue has been my favourite piece of music ever, a headbuster with Prince at his peak and the brooding, angst-ridden heart of Purple Rain.

.

I’ve got bootlegs of some of the songs from Disk 2 in varying quality – and because of the quality I overlooked “Dance Electric”, “Wonderful Ass” and “We can fuck”. Now being in such better quality coupled with the enthusiasm of your reviews, I’ve Prince songs that have elevated themselves to my top tier – something I certainly wasn’t expecting after his passing. Wicked business. And then the sheer musical joy ‘would’ve been live classic’ of “Love and Sex” – that backwards guitar riff in the verses – a genius touch. I could go on, but fear I’d just be ‘telling what’s already been told.’

.

It's great that we can get excited, surprised and sonically fulfilled by Prince STILL, after his passing. Crazy – but that’s one of the reasons why we hold him in such high regard – how prolific and secretive he was, for which now and for the foreseeable future (Estate and Record label quibbles aside) we can look forward to new (well, to us) music from the man. And hopefully full unseen concert performances. And THAT is why my purple heart keeps pumping strong.

For me. This is a goddamn bliss of a review. Especially MC's reactions to Love & Sex, WCF and Father's Song (Included all the "Holy Shit" and "Fuck" moments). But really guys, to not go deeper into the 1983 live version of Electric Intercourse is a crying shame. That is not only one of his best ballads, it is one of his best songs, period.

To be honest, I really need to go deeper into this catalogue. Fortunately I've been on a 3 week long holiday in the sun. Lifting weights, partying, fucking & preaching about Prince to new people. And you better believe I'm convincing when I'm telling them "He is the Emperor of Pop".

But what I cannot understand is, why do you include Computer Blue on the unreleased material disc. You clearly put that on disc 3 instead and leave more room for other unreleased music on disc 2. That just seems cheap and lazy for me. However, it's an unbelievable track from start to finish. Don't get me wrong. We Can Fuck I love in this fashion instead of GB. Mostly because I never ever listen to GB. ?uestlove made a hype, and it surely lived up to the expectations. Katrina Paper Dolls & Velvet Kitty Cat are dull and on the borderline of sucking really hard.

Agree with your first few sentences. Your last paragraph is self-contradicting to an extreme. Both WCF and CB on this album are alternate versions of officially released songs. But including one is "cheap and lazy" and the other one is just fine where it is. Huh?

Btw, for the mods, putting this thread and others over here in this forum appears to drastically reduce readers and comments. Any chance we can switch it back?
