Org Musicians, did you ever send a demo tape/cd/link to Prince?

Since you are a Prince fan and a musician, did you ever send your demo casette to him?

Just wondering. I am sure many did, so it is ok to speculate what happened to all the unsolicited demos sent. Did they go in other hands, in a storage bin (Vault II), get exposure, or thrown in a fire?

(Dear Mr. Slakk, thank you for your demo. Prince says don't quit your day job.)

Shouldn't this be in Prince Music & More? lol Actually, I'd like to read responses of people who did send P demos. I haven't seen this topic on the org before. smile

Most artists, etc., don't listen to a demo. Partially because they're busy doing their own thing, partly because they might not be in the business of seeking out new talent like an A&R guy would possibly. Also, they don't always want random music ideas put in their head that someone can come back later and claim a copyright lawsuit to.

People did send Prince music, especially in 2001. When "Contest Song" was released in August in the NPGMC, people were encouraged to put their own words or production to the song and submit it. For me, the original instrumental sounds like a very early 80s demo, although PrinceVault assumes tracking was in 2001. I don't remember the three winners much, but I do remember someone added their own music section to his song, lengthening it by almost 2 minutes or so. It was my least favorite, but apparently, Prince liked it. The three winners songs were later released on NPGMC as part of the monthly downloads.

I never sent Prince music, because why would he need it? But I did sample "Batdance" in a song I wrote in 2006, called "Free (U Got Me)". I also wrote another song called "Confusion", and used his tag "CONFUSION!" ending idea at the end of it. (Like at the end of "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night")

That's pretty cool. Thanks for the input.
