Looking good. Looking good.

But he needs to be VERY careful not to use the last of, for many of us, what remains of our goodwill.

I will NOT be joining a club. I would rather STEAL a copy of the Daily Fail than give them my hard-earned. If it's ANY sort of streaming BS I'm out.

Sorry to sound negative, I am very optimistic of what seems an interesting reinvention of style. Hopefully minus exessive Larry Graham and telling us how best to bother God.

But we live in a sort of musical utopia now, as I see it, that ironically he helped pave the way for and yet wants no part of. He needs to get OVER the non-existent format war that is in his head, and just get ON with delivering music the way most of us now choose to experience it. That is digitally via the internet.

Woah there! Before you go flaming me with the old "vinyl sounds better" and "I want a physical copy" arguments. Just think.

Apple (other digital content sources are available) are committed to improving the quality of there downloads in future. This is to be embraced. I really, really wish he was there with them, getting involved in the dialogue about how best to proceed because he more than anyone should be.

And THEN...we can get over ridiculous arguments of "format". Physical is dead people, really. Get over it. The future IS digital. Fact. And if you close your eyes and ears to the REALITY of this future then you will get left behind. And we don't want that. We want the funkiest right there, front and centre. Leading the charge instead of resisting it.

Remember it's about the MUSIC. And it is AMAZING that an artist (THE Artist?) can record, produce and distribute a song (or any content for that matter) direct to his (or her) fans almost INSTANTLY, and get paid for it. What a world.

Yes sound quality needs improving. Yes I want a "booklet" with lyrics and pictures I can enjoy in conjunction with the listening experience. Yes the price has to be right and the artist proceeds need to be fair. So get involved and get negotiating and make your demands loud and clear and get the fans onboard so we can shout with you to the corporation(s) that we demand better, faster, more.

Sorry to hijack the discussion, just don't want to have to dust off my gramophone to get involved.

Great track P, keep it coming.

I love this idea!

Than after a lot of bickering and fighting his fans choose a selection of what he gave us. We'll make an album of it, release it and put the profit in a fund.

For example a fund that supports projects for free and save education for girls around the world.

I think it's a good idea! And it hasn't been done before, so there will be media attention. For both Prince his music as for the fund for educating girls.

Very good idea. Somebody pitch it to Prince?

Thanks for the like and thinking. However the 'we sell for profit can be an issue'.
Some nuance because else Prince won't see the benefit. The kickstarter is for us to fill and he receives the money. He opens a reuqest for say $2.000.000 within a timeframe.

Everybody pitches in and receives something depending on the amount pitched.

($15 is album but $50 is cd+dvd, $100 is cd+dvd+written notes copy....$5000 is listening party included)...

He remains owner (ofcourse)

Possible profit is for him to decide when overbooked. I feel this is important because money and controle often seems to be the issue.

He can contact/call/mail me for a pitch wink

I've been thinking of things along those lines since the Spreecast a couple of weeks ago when this was first raised.

I think what could work for Prince is a slight variation on the crowdfunding model - very similar to what you describe - with a few extras that take it to the next (commercial) level and starts to involve B2B pledges as well (ie. record stores, newspapers, etc...).

FWIW, next week I'll post some findings from the unofficial Prince website survey that I've had open for just over a week now, that includes a question about crowdfunding and whether or not Prince fans would support it.

I've put some of my thoughts into the "Past, Present, Future sites" subforum (http://prince.org/msg/13), the most recent one being here -http://prince.org/msg/13/392507

Would love to continue the conversation in there if anyone is up for it smile

wow now this is a surprise. despite everything that was already going on,

i didn't expect there to be a new official site this soon, without word or an

exhausting wait.

so that makes it double as much fun, since it's simply there, ready to go,

with another new song (for free) and the promo teaser for the montreux

concerts.

that's the way to do it.

whatever people's complaints about the site format or the url name, this

is a good move. stuff should just simply be there, like it is now. if he puts

up an mp3 of "screwdriver" for a couple of dollars, i'll snatch it up.

this kind of site could work to his advantage since there is no elabrote way

of signing up to even see what's on it.

if i log on tomorrow or next week and i see that there are new songs there

or a new video that i can preview only and download after paying, that's a

good way to go.

no endless waiting, no building up of expectations, just simply appearing

and ready to be downloaded for a reasonable price. what more could you

want?

i know it's what i've been hoping for, for a long time.

another thing about all the complaints and negative comments: remember

please that everything we've heard and seen this year so far, which is a

fair bit of stuff already, had been released free of charge. we've been able

to listen to or watch footage for free.

even as far back as last year with the rehearsals being 'released' through

doc funkenberry.

imo prince has created quite a bit of goodwill again. at least with me.

still hoping there will actually be a whole new album though since the one

off tracks are cool, but as an old skool fan i just enjoy albums a lot and a

whole album experience is always gonna beat individual songs.

but a new album to kick off with and a bunch of individual tracks to follow

it, not that would be just the ticket for 2013.

colour me excited excited

off to listen to screwdriver again guitar music

That may a good sign for you, but not for me...

I don't listen to mp3s, except for reference purposes.

I don't even want lossless digital formats, because I prefer physical media... either CD or vinyl.

Me too. It'd be nice if any new releases are done like "R&R Affair".. digital, CD and Vinyl. I'd like to have all three.

Well, I still think 20Ten had 77 tracks to make fun of all of us for paying for a dying site. Some people even paid $77 for one week of Lotuscam.com. So what do I think now? It would be the ultimate crap on all of us if the site had a pay feature for $77 for a "lifetime" membership.

I have already forgiven him, but will probably make fun of him screwing us for a "lifetime." The website is pretty much proof of him at least being a liar or crazy. Gotta love someone who says the internet is dead putting up a website. 20Ten was a nice album. Not the masterpiece some think, but a very good album with a classic in "Future Soul Song." Too bad he didn't try to market it on a website back then.
