Honestly, I don't think LF.com broke even. I'm guessing way too few signed up to make it financially viable and he's in debt paying the wages to the programmers who set it up, let alone being able to cope with maintaining it.
Just my guess...

OTOH, if he'd gone for a less ridiculously whacked-out model like, er, a regular website, and charged ppl something reasonable like, er, 7.70 a month (so you could see what you're getting), my guess is he'd be rolling in it...
