Something will happen to make the year's membership worth it. Mark my words.

It could be an exclusive album, it could be advanced tickets or even FREE tickets to a show, or it could be an exclusive download area of the site (even if the downloads themselves are not free).

I've said this before, but I think he'll start adding stuff to the website once the momentum of the LF CD dies down . . .

i think once someone makes a scathing enough critique of the site in a public enough way, we will see something wonderful magically appear on the site, just for us loyal lotusflow3r members.

and ya know what, hey. whatever it takes. nod

You don't think a new website, the Target promotion and commercial, a damn-near-close-to-#1-album, and 5 television appearances (Leno 3, Ellen 1, Tavis 1) all within 2 months is momentum?

I said that the website will offer more stuff when the LF CD momentum dies down . . . if that is in a few months, after the final Leno performance and the Montreaux festival are over, then so be it. I think we've had a pretty good 2 months so far.

I think all those things were a great start, but was over a month ago. In the world of fast paced media and weekly chart measures, after the tv appearnces, Prince has vanished as far as media mentions, music appearances, etc.

If he didn't have an album (or a new protege) to promote, I'd say "Hmm not too bad P." But when you have an album out that actually has some good music at such a bargain price, when you have a new star you are introducing to the public, when you have a new website you are launching... you have to BE ON THAT GRIND. From a PR standpoint, you have to appear at least 1x or 2x a week on people's radar to sustain momentum (even more in a 24hour news cycle). When morning news becomes hold hat by the evening news broadcast, folks who produce & live off of media have to work to stay up on it.

Prince did that during Musicology. He strategically planned how he would use his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction to capture the press. And he did.. magazine covers, web coverage, radio interviews, tv interviews, performances, etc.

Not today. Here's another indication of the fall off: Lotusflow3r.com's webstats:

The last appearance was 3 weeks ago today, not a month - but I do see your point. He could do more promotion for sure.

Hell, even doing Oprah and giving a copy away to the audience members is something! That would make all the moms watching at home jealous and want to know what they're missing, and they'd run out and buy it. Seriously.

On a side note: I think not hitting #1 with the LotusFlow3r package really did a lot to kill Prince's interest in the project. He still promoted it afterwards, but the "buzz" was all but gone after week 1.

It doesnt really concern him how many more will be sold. Like he said. He's taken care of. He already made his money.

But if he (or we) are measuring the contemporary cultural impact of his recent work simply by how much money he makes, then he/we are missing the mark significantly.

I'm not saying individually the charts are all-important, or sales, or radio play, etc. but put all together they help measure quantitatively his currency, his relevance, the size of his audience.

If he's in it to make money, then yes, I guess he's taken care of. But if he's in it to (re-)shape the world of music, he's not going to be able to while being disengaged from a critical mass of people, which he has essentially done.

Exactly because in this media age, 3 weeks may as well be a month may as well be 3 months. Bottom line is he is off the radar and so is his record and his protege.
