the closure of the club and a link i discovered...

this may have been said already but i was thinking, anybody who uses youtube such as me will probably know that (i think it was) the day before the site shut down the npgmc went to youtube and demanded that all prince videos be deleted including fury and a fantastic performance of lolita etc so all music videos and live performances people had uploaded and this even extended to maytes if eye love you tonite (made me very upset i love that video) were all removed and a notice was in there place saying the npgmc had demanded their removal..
this is still the case on there now...

coincidence? i think not...
somethings definately afoot in the prince camp..
i wonder if he is going to offer everyting hes ever done on the next incarnation of the npgmc to buy or available to members only? i wouldnt be surprised if yahoo etc are next?...perhaps his aim is to have anyhting he has ever been in in one place and one place only on the web to minimise piracy or unprofitable viewing,..?? admittedly the npgmc will prrobably not remove his videos from mtv vh1 etc but maybe this is a move on the internet as a whole??

food for thought..
xx

Prince seeks to exert control over everything online to the extent of extreme paranoia, so it wouldn't suprise me if he did indeed try to manage his performances.

Weird that he professes to be such a pioneer on the web in musical terms, by offering the download store, first album to be sold online etc...and yet he is so obviously naive when it comes to the web, as the battle he is always trying to fight online (that of total control, be it photos, performances, videos, whatever) is a losing battle.

How do you know the npgmc went to youtube on that day? Was it announced somewhere? Content on YouTube is always being removed for copyright reasons. I've seen Bowie and Kiss videos come and go on there plenty of times as well.

well i would imagine she figured the demand was made by npgmc because in her post she said: "...and a notice was in there place saying the npgmc had demanded their removal." wink

nod

P has had his people pulling videos from youtube for months.

I recall back in February or March, an orger was very upset at Prince. He uploaded the First Avenue boot performances of Computer Blue and Electric Intercourse, which resulted in him receiving a notice from youtube that the content had been pulled per the request of P's people. I think his account was temporarily suspended. Mass deletions of P's video occur every couple of weeks, but as soon as they are deleted, new ones are uploaded

youtube is heading for a HUGE legal problem IMO...

I am told that the level of artists complaining to the RIAA, ASCAP and BMI among others is rising to the point that there will be a large suit filed to get youtube to stop allowing people to upload artist materail which is in clear violation of Copyright law.

They may have to start paying license fees or begin a review procedure prior to posting.

Either one could kill the model pretty quickly.

We shall see...
