Chicago Sun Times: Concert postponed, singer reportedly ill

Saturday night's concert by Prince at the 18,000-plus capacity Allstate Arena was postponed because the singer developed a sore throat, Rosemont executive director Harry Pappas said.

The announcement came just before the 8 p.m. show, the second of five, was to begin. The concert was rescheduled for Aug. 3.

"Basically, the man had a sore throat, was examined by a doctor, and they had to cancel the show," Pappas said, adding Prince went to see doctors at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge about 6 p.m.

Ticketholders can also get refunds if they prefer.

Pappas indicated Prince's illness would not affect concerts scheduled for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday at the arena

ok for all the fans who have tickets for the next few nights sorry to say this but i hope he takes enough time off to heal completely. he's been working HARD the last several months - what a schedule! this problem with his v. cords could get a lot worse if he doesn't take it easy right now so i'm hoping mani's spoiling him with lots of food and liquids and bedrest for as long as it takes

Luckily after the last three Chicago shows, whether he can do em or not, he'll have a couple weeks to rest before the shows begin again.

oh my gosh, i hope princey feels better....he should make sure he goggles his throat with warm salt water and drink plenty of water...

Thank jehovah I gotmy chance to see him in saint paul! Sad for all the Chi fans But @ least I saw him....He was looking sick on the Fri show!

At the Paisley aftershow last Friday, when he did sing (which was pretty infrequently), his voice was as hoarse as I've ever heard it. I mean, it was way hot, I LOVE when his voice gets raspy like that, but it seemed pretty obvious that his vocal cords were getting kinda tired from all of the shows.

I hope it all works out, for Prince and everyone who has tickets to upcoming shows!

I wonder how this tour rates against others Prince has done as far as intensity of performances. Is he doing more shows per month on average than he's ever done or has he done more in the past? Seems an intense tour like this is bound to put a strain on his vocal chords.

I've read in interviews done backstage he has loads of candles, these are to keep the air humid to protect his throat, but the reporters usually think he's just doing it because he's a bit weird.
