Do u wish the 'legacy tours' would just stop?

maybe a bit cynical as there seems to be some level of demand out there...but personally I wish all those involved would just quit it! The Revolotion, NPG combo, Morris Day & the Time etc...wish they would just be honest & say they were cashing in. People like Andre, Tony M [FFS!] & many others seem to be totally milking this. Next of course will be a new Rvolution album [no bad thing I guess], NPG album etc...more tours etc. I know P was ruthless & LOVVVVVED $ too...but all this hoo-ha sits uncomfortably with me.

Is anyone harming anyone with touring and keeping his music alive ?
I think it’s a blessing these people tour around.
I have seen them play as they did before he passed away, some of them.
And loved to see the NPG touring Europe.
For me it’s always a Celebration of his music.
And there can never be enough.

For the money aspect; Hey wink, these people are working for their money.
They perform rehearse and try to please their audience. Nothing wrong with working. His music should be viewed as “Classical Pop Music”.

I have No Problem at all. I am grateful they still do it. One day no one will be left who actually worked with him or was in his band at one time.

Legacy is exactly what it is. And we have to keep his music alive for other people to understand his uniqueness.

Look at it as if it was Mozart being played by an orchestra.
I truly hope they will perform Prince’s music 200 years from now. Live !

Are you ok with people who had nothing to do with the music performing his music?

I also saw it as a way that these people, that were actually intimately part of that unique, crazy glorious time with Prince, can deal with the loss and what it means to them. And they are dealing with something quite different psychologically than what a typical fanatic felt.

cashing in? yes... they get paid, music is their job. but is it so hard to believe that maybe they have just rediscovered how much they enjoy making music with these people? and speaking as a musician, it doesnt suck to go out there and find that audiences still love you. its a great feeling to make them happy. i see no problem with these people playing music for fans that want to hear it.

Co-sign.
Also for the unfortunate who never experience a live Prince show this is as close as anyone can get. Now and forever 😢

Morris Day and The Time were touring anyway.

The Family were touring and recording anyway.

Andre Cymone was touring and recording anyway.

The Revolution are doing what's right for them...as are the other bands, I guess... Do what I've been doing, listen to what you feel you want to listen to. Don't listen to the rest.

It's been hard enough turing the radio on, these last couple of years - yes, yes, melodramatic melancholy alert - if it gets them through the day, all power. Things could be worse. They could be trying to perform and no one was going along to watch.

Hell no.

In fact, the estate should have them touring nationwide in an Experience Hendrix fashion with a bunch of Prince items.

I don't have a problem with them. I saw The Revolution and that's it for me, but if others like them, it's no skin off my nose. shrug

No. I dont care if the root of it is to honor Prince or to cash in. Watching the Revolution at PP was awesome and cathartic. If you dont like it, dont F'n go.

They wouldn't do it if the demand wasn't there, so obviously people want it. It's nor for me but I don't believe they should stop entertaining people just because I'm not interested in seeing them play.

The Time have been touring for years and are a group in their own right. Morris has a new solo album coming this year.

The Revolution and other groups will continue for as long as there's demand regardless of individual preferences.

I agree with most of the replies.

They don't hurt nobody.

There is a demand and many people are happy to attend those shows.

They're professional musicians doing their job. It's not an easy job and it's not so easy to make a living out of it, I don't see no harm in them making money seeing how hard they've been working their whole lives. They deserve it.

And more importantly: they were there, they belong to Prince's story, they knew him, they contributed to his music, some were his friends, and even putting Prince aside they have been playing together in the past and have a shared history as well. They are entitled to play this music. Fans were there too, in a way, but nothing like that, and we're certainly not entitled to decide who is allowed to play Prince's music, when and how. A little bit of humility is in order here, sorry Purpleized. I'm sure you have a life and responsibilities to focus on, and that you don't like strangers commenting on your actions or throwing accusations regarding the motives behind them. I'm pretty sure those artists would find your comment just as offensive.

Let us do what we do, let us let them do what they do, and let's be grateful for all those musicians for all the joy they've brought us over the years.

Maybe you need to stop leading campaigns against complete strangers who haven't ever done a thing to you. It's been done to me in the past, it hurt me badly at the time. Maybe if it was done to you you'd understand the harm you're causing, not to mention the harm you and some others are doing to this community by keeping associates away from it when they could feel safe come and interact with us (see the aborted Cat Q&A for one).

Why should they stop playing? They are musicians, it's what they do, and they are playing music that they themselves played in the studio and on the albums. It's not hurting anyboby, if it's not for you then that's fine, but a lot of people are enjoying hearing the music at these shows.

they worked hard for that man and some of them had something to do with the sounds too, they deserve it. Does it bother me? no, i wished i would have made it to the revolutions' show here. I guess there is a point to be made for it though, i read a book by elvis' old bassist who went on tour a few years ago and the band played live to a onscreen performance of elvis singing, the guy said he felt cheap and would never do it again. I don't think the rev have done anything like that.

The other part that people keep forgetting, and that we are constantly reminded of when we log onto the org, is that tomorrow is not promised to anyone. We thought Prince would have never died.

Bobby Z had a heart attack about 5 yrs ago. Blackwell died, Vanity died etc

These people will not be doing this forever, because time is short. I would hate to hear that Jesse Johnson Terry Lewis Eric Leeds Cat Brenda B Jill Jones Lisa Coleman Dr Fink etc died (in a car accident or just did not wake up)

So I hope they do more until they cannot. I hope they do some renditions of songs that we never heard like Crystal Ball, Feline, Old Friends 4 Sale and I want to hear some Time stuff and for them to do some song Prince did that work with their set etc

the thing Andre said was that he did just start listening to albums after Prince died.
He said after he left the band he never listened to another Prince album since. Just a song here and there on the radio or something Prince sent him to listen to.

I went to the Revolution concert this past summer and it was VERY good. (Stokely from Mint Condition sang Prince's verses on a few songs.) Otherwise it was just the Revolution playing without a "real" frontman (although, they would take turns sometimes themselves).

I look forward to them coming back. If what I had experienced from the Revolution was subpar then I might agree and wouldn't pay to see them, but that was absolutely not the case. They kept the NPG excellence alive and I'm glad for it.

I can't comment on any of the other acts. I've only been interested in the Revolution. Unless I hear that some of the other acts are crushing it, I'll probably not bother.

The Family show in Minni seemed like more fun with Jerome rejoining

sonicfreak:

Late show last night at the Dakota SMOKED!! I was right next to the stage. Jellybean Johnson was playing guitar right in front of me. Jerome was a RIOT as usual, Eric blew the sax, Paul and Susannah did their thang. Before the show I spotted Bobby Z and Dr. Fink in the crowd. Towerds the end of the set all of a sudden Wendy Melvoin runs up and sits on a speaker cabinet right next to me. She was checking out Jellybean's guitar solo up close. Then Jerome and Jellybean tried to get her to play guitar which she declined.... until a few minutes later Jellybean went back to play drums on "Mutiny" and Wendy decided to come out and jam on his guitar. Such a great vibe! I have video of all this but I think it is against the rules still to post stuff here?
