The Revolution are bringing Prince's love & heart to the people

I know there's a thread going on in the Concerts forum for The Revolution, but it seems fitting to me to share some of the news & reviews from these shows with the main Prince forum. The shows are phenomenal, and they are all about celebrating Prince. So, without further ado:

.

I saw The Revolution in Austin last night, on Saturday, April 17th.

WOW - what a complete surprise. I went in with lower expectiations based clips I saw from the most recent 1st ave show. But I went last night and I found out that:

.

The Revolution are as good as ever, and they are 1000% viable as a band in 2017 and beyond.

.

We all wish Prince was still here on earth. But he's not, and I guarantee you, the energy & love happening on this Revolution tour are causing him to smile in heaven.

.

The set list is extraordinary in sequencing & pace.

.

The best surprise in a night of surprises: Brown Mark playing flawlessly and hitting all the old dance steps. My appreciation for Prince & co's live stage choreograpyhy has been growing steadily, and after seeing Brown Mark live on stage bust all his moves while playing, just a few dozen feet from me (I had balcony seats and could see every step) -- I understand in a visceral way how much it brings to the performance.

.

The train started with Computer Blue -- complete with a snipped of "Poor computer, it's time someone programmed you" towards the end. Then the whole thing took flight for the heavens with Mountains. And then it kept on from strength to strength for another 1h 45m. Every Prince fan should see & hear Wendy & Lisa perform Sometimes It Snows In April.

.

Musically, The Revolution has often functioned as a funk engine chugging along behind Prince. Now that they're all older, you can absolutely hear the mature musicians' timing in their playing -- they are more in the pocket now than ever. Wendy's swung rhythm guitar against the straight angular drum patterns is more pronounced than ever, producing an absolutely unique, purple funk that's even better than their 80s-era performance to my ears. Wendy was an absolute beast on rhythm guitar last night.

.

I wept a few different times -- Mountains for the sheer joy, SISIA for sublime moments & rememberance of Tracy/PRN, Purple Rain for cleansing. It was a wake & a celebration.

.

I sincerely hope The Revolution continue doing this as long as they can -- and next time, bring Sheila E, St. Paul, Susannah, Eric, Jellybean et. al. along for a Sheila / fDeluxe / Revolution combo bill.
