Paisley Park concert screening 01/08/2017 report (09/13/2007 at the O2 Arena)

Hey guys, I was at Paisley Park last night for the concert screening. Happy to report that the event was very well-organized and it seemed like we had a nearly full crowd there for it. I really hope this tradition can continue for a long time.

The show was really well-filmed, I'd say, for being something that was only meant to be in the vault. I did recognize some of it from the Opus '21 Nights in London' documentary. My only real gripe would be that the lighting covered up Prince and the band throughout a lot of Let's Go Crazy. The best part was that the camerapeople filmed really close up to Prince's guitar while he was soloing so you could really focus on how good his playing was.

Here's the setlist:

It was almost the whole concert, aside from the final encore. I noticed this was the case for the last screening too.

Random observations:
* It was a bit of a weird transition to go from "Sometimes it Snows in April" to "Cream." lol

* In watching the crowd-shot videos, I didn't realize how much Elton was relying on the teleprompter for Long and Winding Road. Makes sense, and it's still an awesome moment, just a funny thing to notice. Great vocals by Elton John, as expected.

* Considering this was just one of 21 nights at the O2 and not exactly a landmark gig in the history of Prince, it's amazing how this caliber of performance would put most of the concert DVDs I have seen to shame. Definitely destroys both Rave 2000 and One Night at the Aladdin.

When I did the tour a few weeks back, I saw there were a few tapes from 2007 around in the video editing room. I loved this era, so I hope they keep playing some of these shows (while of course delving into the 80s and 90s as well!)

Thanks for the report. Glad to see it was worth it and well attended. I hope we get more of these. Coachella would be cool.

The O2 shows were filming for live relay to the screens - I'm guessing, especially as it was in the round, that they used at least 4 cameras. Which also means the cameras were mixed live - so it would not take much effort to screen any of those shows.

I hope they make their way (officially) out of Paisley Park, so those who live farther afield get a chance to see them.
