I will find the interview and post the part where he addressed it. As far as her performing with Prince and Kirk, Prince was DJing and Kirk and Shelby were standing by him. She did yell out a few times, but it wasn't a proper show. This isn't directed at you, but please not that I'm not insinuating that they had a falling out.

From Ebony magazine summer 2015. This is regarding Hit N Run Phase 2.

Prince:

All the musicians that played on this, they go, “He just records and he puts it in the vault.” All of them have stories. “He’s recording stuff you would not believe. He just threw it away.” I didn’t throw it away. It just has to be on the right project. And all of these fit together now. It reminds me of this time period. I can see all of their faces. And this is probably the last record I’ll do with Shelby J. She’s all in here too. And Andy Allo’s singing background here too.

EBONY:

Shelby’s a powerhouse.

Prince:

So’s Liv Warfield. Watch this though. [listening to a song transition] You know: where else would it go except there? But before, I had that whole song starting another album sequence. And it didn’t work. So now, where it’s placed, it’s right where you wanna be at that point on the album.

Thanks for the clarification. Interesting remarks from P. Is this the Ebony interview that he made them pull from their website?

[Edited 9/18/16 6:52am]

Did we ever find out why he made them take it down?

Not that I know of, but this passage might have something to do with his decision.

I believe that I read about how Randy Phillips and Londel McMillan were working on televising the tribute. Especially NOW, there is a venue change to the Xcel Energy Center there is much less capacity, only so many tickets will be available for sale (just under 20,000). I like many of you, have not heard any talk of Rhonda Smith, Renato Neto, Eric Leeds, The Revolution, Rosie Gaines, Tamar Davis and many other phenomenal talents that Prince mentored and championed during his illustrious career --- join the lineup. However, I just feel in my heart that Sheila E and others will provide the element of surprise (as Prince always did) and make themselves available. I did see a television video with one of Prince's siblings and he said that they will not fully disclose the entire lineup, so that there is an element of surprise and suspense for the tribute. Finally, what I would not give besides my children and husband for us to be talking about Prince himself preparing for a fantastic performance in Minnie that is a must see for all of his family. smile I am still grieving his passing. I suspect that it will take me some time. So glad that I found a community where I share my feelings openly. My family is tired of listening to Prince music and I can no longer talk to them about what he meant to me.

Chicago will be in the house! Morris Day and The Time and The New Power Generation are the ones we want to see. My first concert was the 1999 Tour and I want to here, "Cool." And knowing Morris, he just might sing "Pretty Man."

I lived at Paisley during the Days of Wild when Prince was pissed at WB, changed his name and cursed like a mf on a whole lotta songs. The New Power Generation will bring it; look at the albums from which they can choose songs: Diamonds and Pearls, The Love Symbol (Sexy MF), The Gold Experience, Come, Emancipation, Chaos and Disorder, Crystal Ball, 1-800-New-Funk, and The Exodus Has Begun.

This is a TRIBUTE, not a memorial concert.

And on Friday, October 14 we will be touring Paisley Park to see if the tour guides know as much as we the friends that hung out at Paisley almost every weekend in 1994, 1995, and 1996.

This is me, this is us, honoring Prince who is forever interwined in our lives.

It's definitely going to be an amazing experience for all those that go because the lineup is awesome!

Shelby J. confirmed today that she will be performing at the event. I hope they get Elisa too. I'd love to see the Musicology line up there too. Fingers crossed. 🙏🏻

I understand. I have stopped talking about Prince to my friends. They just don't understand. I really wish I could be in Minni for the tribute. I pray they are successful in having it televised. Even a pay-per-view would be nice. I, too, believe that there will be surprises, but Sheila E. and Rosie Gaines will not likely be among them. Sheila has another gig that day and Rosie Gaines has been in poor health; although, I did hear that she has been improving. All of the band members and proteges you mentioned would be great. I would also add ALL of the original members of The Time, including Jesse Johnson, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, and Jerome Benton. I would even LOVE to see Alexander O'Neal make an appearance!!!

Ticketmaster. You'd purchase them like normal. Just not on "opening" day.

I personally would not do this. Not because I don't think you'd get good tickets at the box office, but because you will find good tickets well after the onsale date. The only time I buy tickets on the onsale date is if it's at a small "standing room only" venue, or a venue with limited seating. Those are guaranted to be true sell-outs depending on the performer. Show at large arenas will always release tickets at later dates. When they say a show is "sold out", it usually means its sold out of current inventory. I've gotten really good tickets to "sold out" shows days before the event. Some people like the assurance of having their ticket ahead of time, but once you've gone to enough concerts you learn the system. Not to insult anyone who chooses to purchase this way, but buying tickets on the onsale date is really a rookie move. If you are willing to take a risk, wait a couple weeks before the show to but your tickets. You'll be amazed at what you find. Try this initially with a show that's in your local town. If you do it enough times, you'll be totally comfortable buying your tickets at the "last minute", and you'll probably have better seats that someone who purchased way in advance.

Thank you for replying. I've never had luck doing it your way to be honest but then again I'm just the occasional concert-goer. So where exactly do you find these last minute tickets? Does the venue or show's organizers suddenly release more tickets later on?

I know. I'm not sure either. The only thing I can think of is that he thought she would go on to do her own thing, like she is now. This is from the Ebony interview that was pulled. The interviewer was invited to PP to promote HNR Phase One. Prince had gotten in his car and invited the guy in to go for a drive and he played HNR Phase Two, which at that time we didn't know even existed. It was a really good interview and Prince was going in on a few folks. I would post, but we are not allowed on here to post full articles.

Sheila E. has a show that day. Remember that Chaka Khan couldn't do the BET Tribute because she had a prior engagement. You don't know if these other performers are unavailable for whatever reason. Some people will never be satisfied. Tori Kelly is a singer whose talent Prince appreciated. The same probably goes for Luke James. He may have felt the same way about John Mayer. Between the BET Tribute, Revolution shows at First Avenue and this tribute, I think we've had a wide variety of performers Prince worked with or appreciated. The bottom like is Prince is no longer with us, and I think that's why some people are finding fault with every tribute. Finding fault is tied to your grief.

I don't get the complaints about John Mayer. Dude is super talented and obviously had a lot of respect for Prince. Prince was all about real musicians playing real music and that's exactly who John Mayer is. I also don't get the if it's not these set of people then it's not the real deal thing. Prince had a long career, worked with a lot of different people. Sure it would be better if Sheila E and The Rev were going to be there, but someone like Shelby J worked with Prince for 10 years. She was still performing with him in 2016. She sang at the family memorial in August. I'd take her over Jill Jones any day.

Obviously your white and don't think his comments about black women or even using the N word is a big deal. White people just think it is no big deal and don't understand. Prince is an artist that brought all races together and taught us to love each other. John's comments are out there and public knowledge. I really don't think he should be here. Hopefully he gets booed. I myself was planning on going but decided to go the the Sheila E/Time tribute instead and John was the deciding factor as I was attending one of the two. I WILL NOT support anything he does!! Sheila and The Time...CAN'T WAIT!!

Obviously, there are those who are determined to try to derail this Prince tribute. Or, they want to try to pit this official tribute against the Sheila E. and Morris Day tribute in Cleveland on the 15. It is an unfortunate reality. It's not going to work, though. There are too many fams who understand that this is about celebrating Prince's life work. It's not about who's performing...or who's not. It's not about what's going on inside Prince's family. It's not about TROLLS on this website who come up with every reason NOT to support this tribute. Again, it's about Prince. I can't be in Minni for the celebration, but as always, I will be sending positive vibes. Best of luck to all ticket seekers!!!

Do we make anything of Apollonia re-tweeting this? Is she dissing the concert? Or is she trying to get the promoters attention? Or did she simply re-tweet it because her name was mentioned?

Yeah I saw a comment on FB that Sheila's show with Morris Day on the 15th is the "real tribute". Huh? I'm sorry but Sheila's concert on the 15th, and the fact that she tweeted to remind people about it right after the official tribute concert details were announced says to me it's just a big FU to those involved in the official event. If these people really wanted to honor the man they'd suck it up and try and make the official event as good as possible. Thankfully people like Shelby, Liv and Morris (Day and Hayes) are going to do just that.

Although her tribute at the BET awards was very, very nice, I am absolutely shocked by many of Sheila's actions since Prince's passing. This is definitely not her finest moment.

Just logged into to Ticketmaster. No $40 seats available and I suspect there are no $110 seats available. LiveNation and other companies have created a business off the backs of people who love music. No $110 seats available. I logged in at 11:01 am ET. Really disgusted. I will probably go, just not happy about paying more for a ticket, when I should not have to. I live in Atlanta. So, I have transportation, lodging and other expenses for my trip. Love PRINCE but not happy about the greed. Only seats available are the platinum seats at a cost of $550 to $1250 per seat. This is from ticketmaster. I will try another ticket purveyor and keep you all posted.
