Au contraire!

There is mic rubbing, the music/noise ratio is not too high, there are idiots near the taper, P is losing his voice and does not sing all words (e.g. Dirty Mind).

I can't believe the taper sat by all those idiots and didn't tell them to keep quiet cos he was recording for the udo man.

I cannot believe you even find idiots in the Prince man's own Paisley Park even though they paid $100 or more.

So is the dollah truly without valuie these days?

It's one of them reasons not to attend 'gigs' too often these days.

As a person who attended his first PP shows last week, I found that there were fewer idiots than at most shows I attend. This was true for both of the two Prince paino shows and for Larry Graham. My sense is that people not drinking helps. People not having their phones pushes them to focus on the show and the PP experience. As much as wish I had my phone there, to take pictures and record the show, personally I respect that I am in Prince's venue and they are his rules.

I dont have the connections that some of you have to get a copy of the shows. All I have are my memories of what he played. But if I did have the connections, and had a copy of the show, I would be grateful to relive those moments, even if it is a shitty boot with people talking and the mic rubbing against clothing.

The only lame thing about the performance was that he seemed to walk off stage and hide (presumably) to drink water (I assume this because he would have needed to be drinking water in order to sound as good as he did for those shows). Did he think us witnessing him drinking water would ruin his mystique? Very weird.

Actually I could see the table backstage where he would go and it looked like a tea cup with honey I bet.. wink

I just listened to tidbits of the bootlegs and oh dear LORD it has Nothing to do with the perfection I witnessed that night... the sound was 2000 better in person and Prince's voice was best I'd heard in like Forever.... It was magnificent and without seeing the interaction with the public how can one say he forgot the words?? He was having a back and forth with the audience singing thats why he didn't sing all the lyrics...

.

It really bugs me to see these recordings out because it's about as good as 2 percent of the real thing...

Yes, this looks like you had to have been there to really experience it. I don't think a simple audio tape can do it justice. I'll just wait until he takes the show to Amsterdam. If he ever does. And if not, that's fine too.

Why would a 'perfoamnce' at the Carré, the Paradiso or any place in Amsterdam do the songs more justice than the Prince man doing the songs at a piano at the Park?

There'll be more idiots, the prices will be higher.

What would make this more enjoyable?

Anyone bitchin' yet about the fact that to Prince,

"Piano" really means stock "Piano & Strings Pad" preset?

That ruins it for me. I always thought it's a sonic disguise for guys who can't work their piano pedals. Plus, it sounds corny as hell.

Disappointed. This sounds like a photocopy of the One Nite Alone medley.
Vocals are great, but then what's new? Skipper's usually are.

I was expecting a sonic equivalent of the Lovesexy tour medleys.

So beware. It's not "Prince, Piano and a microphone" :
It's "Prince, a nineties synth preset, and a reverb/delay wired to the mike".
Oh, how I wish he would sincerely go unplugged.

Don't start me on the playlist. "Wow"? "Look at me"? Seriously?

Any reports on what gear the Prince man was actually using that night, please?

ERRATUM: Se-riou-sleeeee...

How a composer so good at silence relies on sustained pads, I don't know, man.
I'd rather have a rehatch of the "Relationsheup, sheup, sheup, sheup...".

Let's hear some staccato, damn!

What can I say? I don't hear that much groove.
All's in the voice, but my ear needs an interplay.

It's chords and Prince above.
I was expecting something true minimalistic.
I don't know, some Köln Concert part I, songs fading into another

in unexpected ways, like Dortmund.

Whatever, I'll hope for a bare Steinway and a good live sound engineer.
The man deserves the unexpected, what can happen if you record at home?
Which is Paisley Park is slowly turning into, IMHO.

Let's have this world tour, geez...
WITHOUT THE SYNTH PAD!!!

mad

I agree that it would have been better if it was a genuine grand piano, but you need to calm down.

If you would think about that type of stuff you could have found that alerting people about your attempt by asking them to shut up is not so wise.

Also the mic rubbing reveals nylon clothing nearby. Not good, one could have found this before going into the Prince man's Paisley Park.

Assuming there was no free placement it's a factor of luck too....

I always thought by now that prince would be working with all analog tones .. No cheap digital effects .. They are the cgi crapfest of the music world

Take the tones of snows in april or p fantastic and compare to anything in the last couple decades ... The piano tones are night and day ..

P has this same problem with acoustic guitars .. His strings are so thin it sounds like a toy

AMEN.This is bothering me since ages - everytime there's a piano part in a Prince ballad it's always this dated, cheesy "dreamy" piano/synth strings patch. One of many reasons why P's music since 15 years has lost its edge sonically/soundwise.

For me the same goes for the overused superclean brass/horn parts - it all sounds so clean it's bordering to boring.

I wish Prince someday would make a record again that's EDGY, a bit dirty, rough and not full of cliches..

I wish someone would edit this and come up with a primo copy of the two concerts a la the 1984 Birthday boot. We know it can be done. Put the audience in the background where they belong and bring Prince to the forefront in clear crisp sound... wink
