Well I guess you have to think about every one involved in the tour, but me personally I think it's disappointing. You have to try and carry on. But at least when he tours next they should be a system in place what he is more happy with.

So in what way are safety issues different than before this dreadfull friday?

Probably even more the other way: Security is more tight now across Europe. We need to continue to live our lives the way we want and dont give in. We should not let the terrorists win.

Fair enough. As disappointing as it is, it's the responsible thing to do for people's safety.

So now the Tour has been cancelled, another Victory for the Terrorists.

At the moment it's postponed as opposed to flat out cancelled. According to the promoters anyway.

Think your find it was cancelled at the moment.

As far as I know, there is still a state of emergency in France. Yesterday on the news I heared places like the Eiffel tower and the Louvre were closed. U2's concert was also cancelled. This absolutely not the right time for an entertainer to go there. Everybody will understand that, right?! So the only way to do this tour would be to skip Paris. So I think it was a good idea. It probably won't happen this year, but maybe early next year...

De Amerikaanse zanger Prince heeft besloten zijn Europese tournee voor onbepaalde tijd uit te stellen als gevolg van de aanslagen in Parijs.

Cancelled means it won't be happening at all, postponed means it will happen at some point in the future. The tweets I read said postponed, I hope it isn't completely cancelled.

Hello,

chipping in as someone who lives in Paris... and a huge Prince fan.

Forgive me for starting a bit of topic, I'll come to Prince in a minute smile

Believe me, we are not any safer now because of the awareness brought by the attacks. I am not one to live in fear and I for sure keep living a normal life, enjoy my nights out in the city, restaurants, concerts, everything. But we are not safer because of extra security following the attacks.

The reason I say this is a very simple one: as you may remember, last January there were two deadly attacks in the city (the Charlie Hebdo attack and the kosher supermarket shooting), it was a f***ing big deal; since then, police surveillance, intelligence activities and even the army's presence in the street have been boosted. A LOT. This did not prevent friday night's carnage though and the truth is, intelligence and police can only go so far. Unless you search all 10 million Parisians every time they walk out of their front door, all a terrorist has to do is go out with a bomb, walk 100 metres to the nearest crowd and detonate. No police or army in the world can prevent that. And the number of people willing to detonate is increasing exponentially as more extremist propaganda, more training and more weapons (partly due to our own idiocy) become available for them.

So, while security keeps being ramped up, as it should be, the threat grows more than proportionately.

Coming to the canceled/postponed gigs... and I am only referring to Paris here, because I cannot speak for others...

In this particular period, the decision to call off a gig does not even necessarily depend on the artist. Many dates over the past/next few days have been cancelled by order of the Police. Motorhead last night, Marilyn Manson tonight, many others - the venue websites for these gigs explain that "the date is temporarily cancelled and this is neither the artist's, nor the production's, nor the venue's decision: we have been ordered to suspend all concerts by the Police".

In other cases, and this may be Prince's case, it may be the artist who calls the date off... It still makes practical sense: right now, even if you planned to go ahead and hold your concert, you can't tell whether you will be allowed. The State of Emergency is on and this means that until it's lifted, the Ministry of Interior or the Police can call off any event that features a crowd, without notice. Imagine organising a concert - the logistics, the sale of tickets - in these circumstances.

I am not saying I like it, or that, as an individual, I agree; although I see the logic behind it, I am seriously pissed off that our life, our activities, our right to live has to be "suspended", even partially. But I can understand the reasons. I hope this State of Emergency is lifted - I don't feel an ounce safer because of it, I'd much rather get on with my life until my time comes. And when the SoE is lifted, I hope to see Prince come back and maybe add a few more dates as a way of making it up to us smile

I understand what you mean. I wa in Paris recently. It was full of military. Not good for the atmosphere of the place and as it turned out no good for anything. We surely must rethink the way we are responding to these kind of acts. There is maybe not that much we, civilians, can do. I really think we shoul give the signal that we won't change our lives.

Threats are a reason to stay away?

We cannot fox this any other way?

This means the terrorists have won. Ever since 9/11 or perhaps sooner.

For those that are saying that it's not safe in Europe at the moment - well done, you've just given the terrorists EXACTLY what they want.

To bands like Hot Chip and Maceo Parker's band who are continuing to tour and defy the wishes of these cowardly terrrorists - well done and I wish there were more like you!

Seriously... Did some of you leave your brains in the jar before you came out today??
If a concert is a target then there's more chance you will be hurt at the concert than if you stayed at home. Good grief. Are people pretending to be thick just for attention??
I have a responsibility to be alive to look after two small children. Much as I don't like it ISIS have gotten results, I've just cancelled a Paris trip to see Madonna. But I can't just pretend it's not dangerous and take a chance... Or rather, I would say its a little smarter to acknowledge that things in Paris have changed.

Don't ask me why , but i have a feeling if he did go ahead right now with this tour and especially in France. This place would be like a rabid raccoon saying , ( Oh Prince is going ahead with this tour and it's a disrespect to Paris and the rest of europe , he is only thinking about himself and money.) mad

Prince can never win with this situation , damned if he does damned if he doesn't.

'damned if he does damned if he doesn't' isn't accurate. What's true is that whatever choices he makes, some people agree and some people don't. So there are always some voices speaking up saying Prince is doing the wrong thing, but with a few exceptions, they aren't the same voices every time.

It doesn't make sense to characterize the org as being a place where everyone uniformly hates on Prince no matter what he does. Different people hate on him for different things at different times, and those same people praise him for other things at other times.
