It was an amazing evening. Free parking in the Paisley lot. Doors opened on time. To see and hear John Blackwell, Andrew Gouche and Marcus Anderson in the Love4OneAnother room was amazing. They were playing as we walked in. Blackwell is an amazing drummer and the others are no slouches either! As they were finishing the last song the doors to the soundstage opened and went right over there. Prince and 3rdEyeGirl started playing within 10 minutes! A Wonderful set. Then back to the smaller room for Kandace Springs with Prince dancing, mixing sound playing percussion at the side of the stage. Then dance party. We got a ticket to turn in for a free poster on the way out. I turned mine in and picked the Essence Fest one and the woman told me I could have the other one too so got two posters and also bought the Hit & Run Tour program. A great night. Loved having live music in both rooms.

Thanks bluefish, Rainman and sonicfreak and everyone else who has reported. It's good to finally get some more details on these new tracks. Cannot wait to hear how 'Wow' ends up on the album after hearing it at Manchester Academy

Marco,

Yes, there's a MONSTER solo at the end of "Wow."

I didn't know that a FUNKNROLL remix had been bootlegged (?) eek Are you talking about the studio track that leaked a while back? If so, this mix is completely different. It's more of a dance track -- edgier and funkier.

Bluefish- Great job of capturing the details of the happenings of the night and the songs ( I was too busy soaking in the atmosphere). Any idea what was the song in which Prince was rapping (for most of what I heard)? I just thought that song was dope!- could be a dance / club banger.

You are so on point when you said this new material has edge. Even for Prince, this music was very aggressive and different than previous efforts. You can tell he invested himself in this material. Just a different sound than what I was initially expecting. I think folks are going to really love this new sound (count me in) or hate it. Just don't think there will be room for a middle ground with this one.

It was Blackwell, Marcus and Gouche backing her. Have no idea the whys or wherefores..My friend was chatting with Mr. Blackwell after the show and asked how long he was in town for. His response was something like "I don't know, as long he wants me here."

Correction: It was Blackwell, Gouché and Xavier Dominique (keyboards) backing Kandace. Marcus came up for a brief (but great) solo at the end of her set.

However, Kandace Springs is not a strong vocalist or keyboardplayer. The REAL musicians on stage made it even more apparent who trulywas a musician and who was appearing to "fake it till they make it".Initially I wondered if she was nervous however it became apparent she was nota strong vocalist and putting extra reverb on her microphone would not cover upher vocal inabilities or the occasional wrong notes she was playing on thekeyboard. I applaud Prince for mentoring and promoting newmusicians. However, it concerns me when a person is being promoted(hyped) and appears to not be a serious vocalist of musician. I see posts of people who are saying how they liked her. Iknow in this day and time sadly this generation is not seeing the level ofquality of vocalist and musicians from the Ole School. The auto-tuned,hyped, and pretenders who have a "packaged look" yet no true talentare pushed sadly today by the industry. The TRUE vocalists and REAL musicians are the ones to bepromoted and supported. Not someone who appears to be not serious andportraying one thing on a music video but unable to perform live. Let's justsay the Live True artist versus a Memorex Pretender. One must sadly ask has this generation been fed such low qualityvocalists and musicians by the industry for so long that to them it appears tobe a great meal when in actuality they are starving for REAL talent. Havetheir ears now been re-tweaked/programmed to now hear a wrong pitch note and thinkit is cool. I pray it has not come to this point and I will always onlysupport REAL musicians and not fall for the false hype and promotion.

I was there in the second row for her performance and I thought she was VERY nervous. And it can't help the nerves when Prince is just off to your left playing instruments while you sing. I think she has a very good voice.

This was so much fun! Prince was in an amazing mood which meant that he was smiling most of the time and was all playful and fun. He finally played raspberry beret and kiss. The girl Cynthia..I think...was also amazing, I saw prince pop his head out from behind the stage while she played piano. He danced better than I've ever seen him in another concert and he did his signature butt shake which was honestly my favorite part. Had to leave at 12 though for my curfew but it was an amazing experience and I really hope he does it again soon. Got an awesome t-shirt too, the one with his face on it. Oh and thank you for not making us wait for very long, definitely worth my allowance!! smile

Have to say i am very curious now to hear the new music. More so than ever in the last 10 years. Terms like 'different' and 'edgy' really hit the sweet spot here! I can only hope you people were not blinded by excitement to be at Paisley and having Prince nearby. And don't underestimate the power of a great sound system, it is easy to like average music when heard over a great system. Nevertheless it sounds like you've had a great night, and some great new Prince music might be on its way!
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...
