If you class Brazil as third world then yes, he played there in '91.

People in third world countries have more urgent concerns than going to concerts.

If he did go play for free in a field in Indonesia or something, he would be criticized for spending all that money on self promotion instead of food for hungry people.

Well brazil is considered a 3rd world or a country in development. That does not mean everybody is starving in the middle of the street. So i think the argument that people have more urgent concerns is not a valid argument because ALL countries have more urgent concerns than going to concerts. Prince does not play here because he is not popular. Paul Mac, u2 and metallica can fill easily a 60.000 stadium, prince couldnt bring 10.000 people around here.

In that case there is no point for him playing there. It would be a waste of time. Case closed!! He can spend the time playing the USA rather than going to a 3rd World Country.

He's probably not been heard if in many of the countries you're thinking of...I've spoken to plenty of people from various places in Africa, India and a few in China...can probably count the people who had even heard of him or knew a song, on 1 hand

And let's be brutally honest ...these places probably don't have the $ that he'd want to perform

Sheffield is the only place in the UK he's played that I would consider 3rd world.

You seem to have a misunderstanding of third world countries. There are plenty of rich people in many third world countries there are just underdeveloped and extremely poor areas. Thailand is a third world country but I'm sure he could play Bangkok and have it sell out. Other artists do..
