LOL! No, but this was only my 17th time. It was my 2nd Fillmore show. I seem Prince whenever he comes to town and usually multiples. The past couple times I've seen him (the DNA and then tonight, he has been extra annoyingly late. He DELIVERED the goods. I like his current formula.

I'd like to know why tickets here in the US are over $200 for general admission yet he plays in the UK for 10-77 pounds? That kinds shit pisses me off. No wonder the crowds seem more receptive over there. No matter who it is or how great the show is that's too much money for me. I see this is a Prince show not a 3rdeyegirl. Still Prince is Prince no matter who the band is. Only high rollers can afford those $2500 VIP tickets. *Nevermind, I did not know it was a charity event*

.

I sure hope IF he ever decides to hit the midwest in this lifetime again he don't pull that shit with outrageous prices. The prices are one thing but I get sick of him saying it's not about the money. Yeah I get it that he feels if some acts get that much he should too but c'mon be more reasonable.

.

Glad those who went had a good time though.

Oh yeah, Alicia Keys cover? Oh boy you're gonna get an earful here on that one. chair

Ummm, could have sworn this was a charity event, hence the high ticket prices...

Prince's normal shows have much more reasonable pricing compared to many major acts, I thought it was a great way to help a local charity.

I'll write more tomorrow, but that 2nd show was out of control. Much like the 4 hour shows in L.A. and the DNA shows, 3 hour Oakland, etc., there is no question Prince can still go as strong as ever. I'm too young to have experienced what many probably consider the golden era, but after DNA and tonight, I imagine that the nights 3RDEYEGIRL is on the shows are as good as anything from that era. Prince and 3RDEYE were on fire and in guitar icon mode. So many extended versions of songs, very guitar-centric night. But the stuff on the piano was tremendous too. He would frequently play guitar and switch to piano and sometimes back to guitar during the same song.

Highlights, and I know I'm forgetting many: She's Always In My Hair, Something In The Water (Does Not Compute), Bambi, I Like It There, Cause and Effect, The Love We Make (Piano), Do Me Baby (Piano), Purple Rain was a treat as they started taking away the mic and last minute he came out for a final performance encore to the diehards that remained. After Purple Rain he came back out and apologized that we hit the curfew and the venue had been quite gracious to let him play so long, but because we wouldn't leave he jammed out from the stage listening party style, playing what I believe were 3RDEYEGIRL songs (please correct me if I'm wrong). The first was incredible, and the second two were very strong as well. The rest of the band came out for the second two songs and hung out from the stage with Prince. Very fun end to the night. I know I've left out at least a half dozen other highlights, but I'm sure people will pop on soon to share more.

I'm thinking 12:10-12:15, but I might be slightly off on that. I think the main part of the set ended with a big Play That Funky Music jam (might have been one more after that), then the recorded song (The Breakdown), and then after a bit of a gap, he came back out for Purple Rain. And then after that he came out an apologized for the curfew, but did the mini listening party, playing 3 songs over the PA while rocking out first with just Josh and then Hannah, Ida, and Donna. That ended around 2:54 AM. I may have some of the song order off as I'm exhausted, but I'm sure someone will correct me soon.

Yeah, it was a fairly small portion of the crowd that remained for Purple Rain and the 3 song listening party. Purple Rain was pretty big surprise as his (or maybe the Fillmore's) head of security waved us off and lifted the lights. People still weren't fully leaving and then started to do so as the mic stand was pulled away. The crowd lingered a bit and started to head out and last second they brought the mic back and people rushed up to the stage. After that third night at the Oakland Arena (Welcome 2 America tour) I learned to never leave until the venue forces you to. Prince often comes back if people are wild enough. The crowd was HOT. I read reports that he seemed upset when people weren't into Something In The Water at the Fox (in terms of the crowd participation portion) and I knew we were in for a good show when the crowd was screaming lyrics back at him. Prince and the band were absolutely on fire, but the crowd was a meaningful component of making it special. Everyone gave energy back. Very fun night.

I'm not entirely sure. The first had a chorus of "Down, down, down" and had a classic Prince ballad vibe. Prince was going off hard during it and the crowd was loving it as well. I believe the next two both had female vocals. Hannah was out with Josh dancing for the second one while Prince was off to the side, so it's possible she sings on it. Not sure. It had a bit of a dub/reggae vibe/swing to it. I believe the third had female lead vocals as well. Hopefully someone can correct me if I'm wrong. I'm assuming they are 3RDEYEGIRL songs, but I'm not sure.

Down down down are lyrics from The Breakdown. Maybe one of the songs (the reggae one) was Stop This Train.

So nothing with Prince vocals then (Breakdown aside)?

Hmmm...interesting, the first track must have been The Breakdown. I'm not sure what he played over the PA before Purple Rain then. I'm sure someone will hop on and let us know soon. I don't believe the other two had Prince vocals - Hannah was singing along to the second one in a major way and then for the third everyone was out. I believe the third was without Prince on vocals as well. But the third track had a 3RDEYE vibe to it. Looking forward to someone confirming.

I never left. lol But P was definitely on fire the whole time unlike at the end of the Fox concert as you pointed out. I thought it had something to do with the not so hot acoustics at the Fox. No problem like that tonght. You gave a pretty good summary of what went on, especially considering the late hour. When the herd started running back for Purple Rain one woman stomped on my foot and her heavy friend tried to knock me over to get near the stage. razz lol I really wish Prince had played all of the Breakdown. I thought he seemed a little tentative about the reaction to it. I'm assuming the following two unknown new songs belonged to 3rd Eye Girl? Seems like he handed them off to Josh rather carelessly after aborting The Breakdown...

Nice - glad you stayed! That was a fun little rally toward the end. The crowd that remained was loud. I would have loved another song or two, but Prince and 3RDEYE rocking to tracks over the PA was unusual and fun.

Yes, the crowd was not exactly comprised of ballerinas. There were some sound problems in the beginning of the first show that josh seemed in a tizzy about, as well he should have been. That second show, holy smokes. Something in the Water. Sometimes he seems ready to get offstage but he would have stayed all night. He mentioned the coliseum. But when? I cannot imagine a better show that that second one. And the piano sequence especially in the first show. Glad I missed the Fox if I got to see this!
