Best Tour - Top 4

Ok I'll start..

1. ONE NITE ALONE (2002)
2. 21 Nights in London (2007)
3. Diamonds and Pearls (1992)
4. Hit and Run (2014)

Just can't get over how good One nite Alone was to me... These recent gigs have been totally incredible but One nite Alone for me had the best band and song choices he's ever pulled out the bag. Just wished I had seen the soundchecks but you can't have everything in life. Hope I get to see the NPG this year smile

1995 - (Gold Tour) - Mainly as Mayte asked for me to be pulled up onstage at Wembly Arena during the encore...Have no idea how much of an idiot I looked and Im sure I did as I have no idea how to dance. Doesnt matter as to look back at that many Prince fans was amazing.

1988 - Lovesexy

Nude Tour

2002 One Nite Alone

Out of the shows I've seen in person...

1. Hit N Run 2014 (Manchester, both nights, nuff said!)

2. One Nite Alone... (soundcheck experience was amazing!)

3. Hop Farm 2011 (amazing energy!)

4. The Earth Tour (saw the shortest show out of the 21, but he opened with '3121' and got to see an incredible aftershow at the IndigO2!)

...Only other show I've seen was Newpower Soul at Wembley in '98, my first P show and had to leave during 'How Come U Don't Call Me Anymore' to catch the train... sad

Of the ones I've been to:
1) Hit n Run 2014 - SBE and both Manchester nights I can't see ever being topped
2) Nude 1990 - my first time, still remember it like it was yesterday
3) Ultimate Live Experience 1995 - Loved that period, brilliant night
4) One Night Alone 2002 - This one is quite far behind the other three to me, I thought it was a little lacklustre, but will never forget The Ladder encore. The one song highlight of my concert going life

I thought this would be easy to answer, but alas it is not...I will take a stab at it though

1: Hit and Run 2014 UK - Was at both EB gigs and SBE, absolutely mindblowing.

2: Live Experience 1995 - Both shows in the Point Depot, Dublin.

3: 21 Nights 2007 - 9 mainshows (Aftershows are not included, totally different experience)

4: Diamonds and Pearls 1992 - RDS, Dublin.

Special mention for Hop Farm, easily the best outdoor concert I have ever been at, that whole day was a tour in itself.

If it were not for insanity, I would be sane.

1. The Ultimate Live Experience (95)

2. Parade Hit and Run (86)

3. Plectrum Electrum Hit and Run (14)

4. Tie between Sign O The Times (87) and Lovesexy 88.

Special mention to Earth tour aftershows and Act 1 tour which I also loved.....and a fetish for The Nude tour too.

Best in what regard?

Total number of shows?

Total number of shows seen of that particular tour?

Average show length?

Show production? (location, security, show effects, etc)

Set list?

Variation in set lists?

Your perception of all of this stuff combined?

Please explain what we are comparing here.

I think that's one of the shows I did (remember doing the first Saturday and the last night, but the shows in between are a blur! biggrin ) ....the horns came out playing "The Entertainer" which flowed into "3121" if I recall. And wasn't Prince super late that night, 9.15/9.30 something like that?
/

Remember he smashed it when he came out on stage though. Think first four songs were 3121, Controversy, Lets Go Crazy, and 1999. When he finished 1999 it was like the end of a main show, place was going nuts...and we still had most of the show to go! Amazing!!
/

I've only experienced the O2 shows and the Hop Farm so tricky for me to say. Do folks think the poor management and organisation for the Hit 'n' Run Tour pushes it down the rankings (albeit, it was a hit and run style tour)? Do people rank it highly 'cos its so fresh in the mind?

I did not do Lovesexy but it made a big impact.

Also 1995 and 1998 are quite memorable.

There is also the surroundings, as Arras has got to have been the best surroundings of any show, and a great concert too.

The best surroundings was 10 øre in Kopenhagen. (2011)

Nice park, easily accessible, aftershow location nearby.

Got to see the buildup, soundcheck, etc.

Also, I did not miss the preparty (preshow).

I agree. A great show has as much to do with your personal experience as much as Prince's performance.

I loved Arras for the same reasons. Plus the weather was great and travel was easy. I was in the perfect frame of mind for it.

That I've been lucky enough to get to -

1)21 Nights (final show and after show will never be beaten)
2)Diamonds & Pearls
3)Hit N Run
4)Ultimate Live

Act 11 might have been up there but Wembley Stadium was the worst venue ever for fanclub

ONA at hammersmith might have been up there too but the bloody NPGMC coundnt find my membership details on login until after all the priority tickets had gone. ..so had to scrabble for the nosebleed seats like a commoner smile

unkleg

1) Hit & Run 2014 - London & Manchester...was at EB show 2, Koko show 2 (front row!) and RS show 2, just tooo goood, love the buzz and hype, reminds me of being a fan back in the day biggrin

2) Planet Earth o2 & Indigo...mainly for the Indigo, saw Prince in his element conducting the band and putting on a show cool

3) ONA Rotterdam...was part of the NPGMC, so saw him rehearse and then a main show, and yes the aftershow too (was a bit sleepy by then, but heard everything wink)

4) Hop Farm - Great to see him outdoors in the sun, and enjoying the crowd and performance too!

Honourable mention goes to Diamonds & Pearls because of him doing Jughead from his dressing room, and Call the Law after the house lights went up and most people had left.

biggrin 1. The Gold Experience live. 1995. Prince was very relaxed. This was a unique tour due to hearing
tracks live first before album release with WB dispute and was the most concerts I saw concurrently.
2. Act II. 1993. Reworked classics and O+> album live.
3. 21 nights in London at the O2. 2007 Great venue, performances and excellent sound. Indigo2 was amazing.
4. Diamonds and Pearls 1992. Cool venues and npg in full effect!

I've seen a ton of other shows, living in Minneapolis, but since we're talking official tours then I'll go with this.

1. Purple Rain Tour, Indianapolis (1985). Enough said...

2. Lovesexy Tour, Chicago, 3rd night (1988). Met Prince before the show hanging out in the parking lot of the venue.

3. Act I, Chicago, 1st and 2nd night (1993). Attended the aftershow also on the 2nd night.

4. 3rd Eye Girl Tour, Minneapolis, both shows (2013). Love me some guitar wielding Prince!

Dirtyred

After much deliberation.....

1 = Indigo2 aftershow 18/8/2007

1 = Manchester Academy 21/2/14

3 = One Nite Alone, manchester apollo 2002

4 = Nude Tour Wembley Arena 1990 (my first gig, front row seats!)

Followed very closely by Act II Birmingham 1993. Nude Tour just shaded it as it was my first experience of seeing Prince live.
