Are there usually age restrictions on a child going to a Prince concert.

With the news of Prince about to announce a UK tour, I am thinking ahead (if I can't get a babysitter), would taking my 7 year old daughter to one of his concerts be a no no.

No age restriction whatsoever, in fact he's made comments in the past about bringing the little ones so that they could see what's it's like.

I took my twin boys to the 12/15/10 & the were only 5 years old. One handled it really well & the other didn't, but I have no regrets about the experience!!

Brought my daughter to the O2 London in 2007 when she was 5.....just make sure you get seats and look into ear protectors for the little ones!

and like me you may put your child f Prince for life!!!

I took my youngest to one concert and by the time P came on she was tired and ready for bed, I think it overwhelmed her a bit, you might not want to be worried about about your child while trying to enjoy the show.

Also I think it depends on what seats you get, or what venue he is playing, if your standing, or the seats your in are close to stage and everyone is standing/dancing, will your child be able to see anything. Stewards will soon get them off from standing on their chair, and putting them on your shoulders will not go down well with people behind. Personally I think under 10-12 (depending on individual child) is too young too appreciate and and enjoy a P show.

But having said that...I have seen a couple of real dots having a great time, prob more down to what you think your child is up for.

My son was 11 back in 2004 when I took him to one of the musicology concerts-just me and him and we had a great time. A Little girl even danced with Prince onstage in oklahoma city. It was nice and a chance for my son to see a musical legend.

Whilst there might be no age restrictions on concerts, please be aware that age restrictions usually apply to aftershows - so don't bring your child with the expectation that you can both go to an aftershow too!!! biggrin

I recall the 3121 club shows at the Rio in Vegas were 21+. And as noted above, aftershows may be in a club that is adults-only. But if the show is in an arena or somesuch, I wouldn't expect any age restriction.

.

However, please do get some earplugs or "earmuff" style hearing protectors that will fit and provide real protection. I've found Prince concerts to be some of the louder ones I've been to, and I'm not ashamed to wear earplugs at them! I can actually hear more with the plugs in; cutting down the volume level allows me to hear more of the different sounds coming from the stage.

"I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

Thanks for all the advice, doesn't seem to be a problem then. As for an aftershow, though it would be great, I wouldn't plan on taking her to one of those.

Brought my youngest son to the Antwerp concert in 2010. He was 9 years old and truly enjoyed it very much. He had a good view because he could stand on the seet. He danced al the night long. BTW : it was an excellent concert. He's still talking about it and surely wants to go to a new concert.

I took my then 7 year old daughter to the Musicology tour at MSG in New York and now she is a huge fan. It didn't hurt that Prince picked her up and danced with her on stage and then lowered her back into my arms. Thank God I have photos and video footage of the moment.

As for aftershows/parties, the one at Mogegan Sun was open to anyone. There were a couple young teenage girls there with their parents. That was a first, but it was a casino club not being used that night so it was a bit of a different situation. It is already a 24 hour operation and since it was after a certain time no alcohol was being served so it was really unique. Sadly, Prince didn't perform otherwise it would have been a very rare opportunity for an underage attendee to see such an amazing event as a Prince aftershow.

I took my then 5 year old daughter to see Prince at one of his 21 nights at the O2 in 2007 and she'll be coming with me again in London some time very soon!
