Yeah, I know.. I said it was a shame, due to the unlikelyhood of actually getting tickets and how expensive they'll be, but it makes sense because 3rdEyeGirl shouldn't really play arenas, there would be too many disappointed people.

Did you read the reviews of the recent NPG shows? I loved it but there were a lot of disappointed fans. Too much jamming and not enough hits for some people. I think most people would be blown aweay by a 3rdEyeGirl show in any venue.

I must admit that provided I get tickets I really would like a mixture of both 3rdeyegirl and npg. I love the whole rock thing about 3rdeyegirl and I primarily prefer Prince's guitar driven tracks but given I am hoping to take a few first timers (again tickets/cost permitting I think a mixture of both NPG and 3RDEYEGIRL would be preferable. Or maybe he might do the different groups per show. Who know?

BUT LET'S GET SOME DETAILS OUT ASAP!!!!!!

Small venues means very limited ticket allocation to, so I guess us everyday folk won't get much of a sniff anyway. Surely he could squeeze a couple of O2 nights in there for old times sake?...

We should be given priority tickets as I for one have spent lots of money travelling to see him in concerts all over Europe . So prince make sure we get some tickets please.

Prince owes you nothing.

Fully agree with the last few comments. You can hardly call it a UK tour if he just plays a few gigs in London. He needs to come up north. Manchester or, for me, Leeds would be even better.

I would love him to do a proper NPG show at the new Leeds arena. That place looks fantastic, it's the perfect place for him.. besides, the northern crowds are just better than London. Sorry southeners, but you're too reserved for me wink The north knows how to party fo realz.

Not enough hits is exactly my point. Most people (the people who would sell out an arena) want to see a hits show. Prince with a 3 piece girl band playing mostly new stuff and rarities wouldn't go down well with an arena crowd. It's perfect for the die-hards, but they wouldn't sell out the O2. 3rdEyeGirl are more suited to smaller venue shows for the die-hards only.

My point is that he's probably not playing a hits show with either band. I think you are generalizing his fanbase. There are plenty of so-called die-hards out there. Easily enough to fill an arena. But I do think a casual fan would be more impressed by the rock shows that 3rdEyeGirl put on opposed to the jamfest of an NPG show. Not sure where you get the "mostly new stuff and rarities" from. He always mixes in some well known tunes.

3rd Eye girl would be perfect in an arena, however, they will know it wouldnt fill one, which is why they will have chosen smaller venues.

They could have probabaly sold out the O2 for a couple of dates though on the back of Prince's name, The general fan who isnt Die hard may not really know too much about 3rd Eye and buy tickets based on the fact its Price, they'd just expect a hits show no doubt.

That's exactly it, if he wants to sell it as 3rd Eye Girl, they would sell less, but Prince ft 3rd Eye, they could sell out O2 a few times over, however you can gaurentee you will get loads of people complaining afterwards from people who were expecting him to do a set of all his hits. its a Catch 22 situation I guess for him, he can do small venues playing what he is currently playing and sell out with some Massive fans missing out on tickets, or he could do the O2 and then have casual fans complaining when he doesnt play the set they are expecting.

Yeah, exactly. Bearing in mind that he hasn't done a proper UK show in almost 7 years, and those were generally hits shows.. that's why they were so successfull. Same with Hop Farm.. part of it's success was down to his classic setlist.

I'm afraid to admit that I'm one of those fans who would be, in part, disappointed by a solely 3rdEye set. I live in the north, and I was only 16 in '07, so I could never have made it to London, and I heard about Hop Farm too late, but probably couldn't have gone anyway. I've never seen Prince live. I've never seen the majesty that is the Purple Rain guitar solo live in an arena. It's all well and good if you're a fan who's already seen him countless times and you're sick of the same songs over and over again and want him to change it up a bit, but I've never seen any of them.

The majority of UK people who would buy a ticket to a Prince show, especially just off Prince's name, would want to hear all those classics. They're not gonna care about any new music, and won't want to hear different arrangements of his classics. They'll wanna hear the full NPG synth-soaked pop music that he is best known for.

Also, call me a cynic, but I can't see the 3rdEyeGirl album going down to well either. The tracks we've heard so far are some of Prince's weakest to date, IMO. neutral

So P will probably do smaller venues at odd hours at high prices to have some more hardcore fans listenign to some newer music?

Or he can do the tradidonal hits, hits and more hits.

I'd rather enter a P show at 2 AM (local time) than at 19:00.

Surely that's what the aftershows are for? Do a standard evening arena hits show to the masses, then play a much more intimate aftershow for the real fans who want to see something a bit different. Makes sense to me. That way, everyone's happy. Besides, not everyone is able to go to a show at 2am, especially if he's only playing London so people will be travelling from all over the UK. It's not exactly convenient.

I think maybe his new album will be geared towards a younger crowd, breakfast can wait to me wasnt aimed at his older fan base. I've read he has colaborated with Rita Ora, which is what they call a single that would open him up to the UK market and a younger audience which may help the 3rd Eye record do a little better, who knows maybe he suddenly has Love for us on this side of the pond and will return once the album drops for an arena tour? After all some great reviews from smaller sold out shows will lead to more demand, one can hope, but doubts the Purple one. (Me Speaking from my Events/Promotions backgroud on how i'd play it i guess haha)

It's kind of funny all this debating when NPG is just 3rd Eye Girl + another bass player, horns and some female singers. The NPG shows do tend to be longer and he does tend to play 70's covers sung by the background singers. (which I don't care for) As long as it's Prince, I doubt he'll have any problem selling tickets. And whichever band is there and whatever he's calling it, he hasn't played a so-called hits show in quite a while and I doubt he will now with a new album coming out.

And keyboards. Those are pretty important razz It makes a big difference though. His Welcome2America/Canada/Australia shows were all hits-based. Not all/only hits, but definitely featured a lot of them, even if they were part of medleys. He doesn't even play Purple Rain properly with 3rdEye.

I genuinely would not care if I never heard Purple Rain live again. I've heard it 200 times. Same goes for Lets Go Crazy, Cream, Raspberry Beret, Take Me With U and Kiss.

I'd be happy for less played hits (When Doves Cry, Sign O The Times, Most Beautiful Girl), but I want the set lists to contain most or all of the new album.

There is no reason why it can't be the new stuff, with a balance of hits. Most artists do it. Prince always seems to go to one extreme or the other.

And no covers!

That's the problem. Most people haven't heard them. I've NEVER heard any of them live. Not everyone gets to see Prince 200 times. I'm a huge fan, but I would be so disappointed if the sets were mostly new stuff, albeit partly because I'm not actually keen on it. 3rdEye stuff is dull, and I really don't like LGC Reloaded. The mainstream 'fans' wouldn't dig it either.

He can't really please everyone it seems. This is why a few small shows for fans like you inbetween a few arena hits shows for everyone else would be the best plan, I'd say.

It'd be fine if he came and played the UK every couple of years, but he doesn't. The Welcome2America/Canada/Australia shows looked amazing, I really wish he'd brought them here and done a Welcome2Britain, or something lol

This will be my first time seeing Prince live, and despite the fact that I could sing along to pretty much anything he could pull from his back catalog, and despite the fact that alot of my favourites are b-sides and album tracks, I would like to hear him do the hits. Considering this could be the only time I ever see the man in the flesh, I would like to have heard the Purple Rain solo live, Kiss, I Would Die 4 U (love to hear a 3rdEyeGirl arrangment of that one) etc etc. For everyone who has seen him multiple times I can understand his shows feeling stale, but I doubt you went to your first show wishing to hear rarities lol
