Prince Books Trio of Special East Coast Shows in Dec!

Star will perform at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut in December

Over a career spanning nearly four decades, Prince has taken home seven Grammys and sold over 100 million copies of albums including Purple Rain and Sign "O" The Times. Now, the legend is announcing plans to bring his epic live show to the East Coast with a trio of gigs next month at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

See Where Prince Lands on Our List of the 100 Greatest Singers

The concerts kick off Friday, December 27th, followed with a Saturday, December 28th performance and finishing on Sunday, December 29th. Tickets for all three gigs go on sale Friday, December 6th at 10:00 a.m. through Ticketmaster.

The past 12 months have been eventful for the Minneapolis native. After a longstanding and highly public battle against the Internet, Prince joined Twitter in August and used the forum to share the artwork for his new single "Breakfast Can Wait," which features comedian Dave Chappelle's impersonation of the artist from Chappelle's Show. Six weeks later, nearly 2,000 fans lined an out-of-the-way block in suburban Minnesota to watch the artist jam at his Paisley Park studio. (They were treated to a ca...k blowout.) And just last week, he returned to Twitter and posted another single, "Da Bourgeoisie," a sparse, bass-thumping track about "kicking it with another girl."

Something tells me that 3RD EYE GIRL won't be his backing band for these gigs. For one thing, one twitter, in response to a question about when fans will hear "Big City", Prince responded 26th, 27th, 28th. The dates for Connecticut gigs are from the 27th-29th. At the time, Prince did that Twitter interview, he might have still been in negotiations and settled on the 27th-29th. Obviosly, a tune like "Big City" you need a larger ensemble (NPG). Secondly, 3RD EYE GIRL has played mostly theaters and mid sized venues. I don't know if Prince has enough faith in them yet to have them back him in a 20,000 seat arena. This might be the last significant gig NPG does with Prince before going into full scale promo mode for 3RD EYE GIRL's album, if indeed, the album comes out.

I just checked... the "cheap" tickets are $142 with fees.

I'll be in the area around then, and I would love to go... but that's a lot of money, and at the holidays too!

Damn, I was really looking forward to seeing this show! If the tickets really are $140 or more, I doubt I'd be able to go :/ Such a shame too, I wanted this to be my first time seeing him live! As soon as I heard about it I texted my buddies about it so we'd go together razz Oh well, I'm only 18. I'll wait until he plays closer to New Jersey and for lower prices lol.

Does anyone know anything about this "social/venue presale" that's on Ticketmaster? Says tickets go on sale tomorrow at 10AM, but you need a presale code. I called up Ticketmaster AND the Mohegan Sun to ask them what this was about, and they said Prince would be sending out the code through his mailing list. I told them no he wouldn't, Prince definitely doesn't have a mailing list lol.

If anyone finds out any information about this presale please let me know so I can try to score tickets tomorrow morning! This should be awesome.

not sensitive at all.. just curious as to why folks tend to undercut the group when its obvious he is all in with them..Further, there is nothing to suggest otherwise

I believe 3RD EYE GIRL has the potential to be a great rock band lead by Prince. Even in a funk ensemble as NPG, the core musicians are good. I just expressed doubt in them playing an arena size venue similar to MSG or Joe Louis Arens as a 4 piece playing Prince's biggest pop hits like "Pop Life" or "I Wanna Be Your Lover". Certain songs need other players to bring out the fullness of the sound of the songs.

But also, if Prince is intent on promoting 3RD EYE GIRL and a 3RD EYE GIRL tour supporting Plectrum Electrum, it would make sense he would play these shows with NPG. Partly, to give NPG one more gig of significance for a while and to play "Big City" live.

Fair enough.. i would agree if he has the NPG to make it the last shows with them and move forward with 3EG in the future.. I wonder if they are gonna differentiate who is playing before txts go on sale..If Bruner was the drummer liek the dakota shows I'd feel different.v

he needs to sell 10,000 plus tickets a nite and i know most off you arent going to like what i say but unless he does the hits he wont sell.i think 3eye girl is fine just notsure how they will go over withe casual fan.

i rember when they did the first shows ,the reviews where pretty bad and tickets sales where slow so he added in the sampler set.to make more people happy.

in a small club or theater he can do what he wants but selling areanas are a differnt thing.he needs to give people who bought a tickety purple rain and the other hits.,no differnt from any other major artist.

there where only 2 groups who could basicaly do what they want and sell out every nite, the grateful dead and now phish on a large scale

I will probably try for tix to the Friday and Sunday shows. excited excited excited
