Don't tell me I'm the only person who's ever noticed, why is the crowd always 90% white dorks? Why is Prince appealing to geeks and the uncool? Say what you will, but it's true and you know it. By the way, I'm cool as a mofo

Where are you going to Prince concerts at? I once saw Prince in Fargo. Not your typical Prince crowd. Then again, what is?

Geeks are the new cool.

That's the paradigm.

i think 90% is an exaggeration. i would say about 30% of the real dorks are white, old, bald & about 7 foot tall. they always stand right at the front so no one else can see

There were two of those exact guys standing in front of me the last time I went to see Prince. For awhile eye wondered if I should tap them on the waist and ask them if I could stand in front of them. They surely wouldn't have missed anything because I barely stood as tall as their shoulders biggrin Instead, I moved to the back of the crowd hoping to catch a glimpse of the Man and his band guitar

Actual geeks would be nice interesting concert visitors.

Dorks would be the ignorant wannabees commenting loudly over lesser known songs, out of control clapping and singing off-pitch. (while knowing and with intent)

I'd gladly kill such people.

I did give a nice context with enough reasons.

And maybe I'll attend the Smukfest.

So you fit the proifile?

Really: don't you think that the dorky behaviour I described is very uncomforting for geeks?

Maybe because they often occur in Northern Europe where Caucasians are numerous and style tends to be understated?
You did not attach a photo of yourself so we cannot analyse your dorkitude.

I don't know, but here in America, Prince concerts used to be total BABEfests. Now they look like little old lady church conventions. Thanks, Jehovah Witnesses.

People grow older, Prince's music changes (or at least what and when he plays stuff), etc.

Babes become moms, so they might stay at home.

That's my take, too. In the U.S., the audience for the concerts of any major pop, rock, or hip hop artists are going to be predominantly middle age to young, white, and male. It's just a fact of the demographics of who really likes buys music and can afford to go to concerts and wants to go concerts. The only exception among big stars is some R&B and soul acts will get predominantly black audiences. I'm not trying to be racist or sexist -- that's just my observation.

The audience at Prince show is definitely more female, more racially diverse, more socially diverse, and more stylish than for most other major artists.

Everyone can claim somethign about dorkfest as a statement of fact and when one asks any details people can't give info.

So who's the dork?

I guess you are not up to the subtleties between dork, nerd and geek.

And I'm not even a native speaker!

We bow to you O King Dork of Dweeb Mountain.

FYI I was talking about underground rock bands playing in LA including, well, many of my own bands. Our "demographic" seems to be awful narrow. When I occasionally open for groups that are popular on public radio like the Mountain Goats, boy do the beards come out.

Exactly... Plus most Prince fans are usually 35-55 years old anyways... lol

Met the love of my life at the Seattle show last year and we've been together ever since. He gave up his spot so I could see better. We're both in our 40's so I guess we fit the profile smile
