SpiritOtter is absolutely right on this one. Prince really needs to 'right the wrong' here - I really feel for the fans who experienced such shoddy, amateurish antics from the lack of prep.

1) Sound issues on the W2 tour - becoming a bit of a trend now

2) Very late starts that mean a premature end due to curfews; ditto

Prince really needs to get his house in order - the organisation of these shows is piss poor - and this negative press; on top of Allo's ongoing 'non event' website 'launch', 1 song performance, and countless queues of patrons waiting in vein for her to deign them with her presence, are all gonna bite Prince in the ass.

I never thought I would see the day when Prince's live performances would be marred with such negativity - every first night seems to pan out the same.......

Everyone could tell Prince & The NPG were ready to give 150%, They are feverishly working on Prince's clone as well to give 150%.

Prince has a clone?? Couldn't he have come on earlier instead??

In all the other typos (that were later fixed), only MJ007 and I found this on odd? confuse

Have I missed something?

(Or is that just a particularly cynical reference to Andy??)

Prince made a comment to the crowd at HOB that he can't be in two places at once, essentially saying if I handled the sound it would be right.

In other words, more of his typical blame game and scapegoating when the buck stops with him. It is YOUR name on the tickets and your symbol as the stage, hire some professionals to run your organization or retire. Seriously, this is getting OLD, this amateur shit show Prince is running.

Ahhh, ok. Thanks Mike.

I agree that he needs to stop with the blame game and find the right people, but I can sympathise with him knowing that if he was working the sound it would be right.

I was standing directly behind his sound guy (the same one, I remember the name) at Bennett's Lane in Melbourne in May when he was having familiar trouble with the sound for several songs.

Finally, after lots of comments and glances, he got the band playing something and came and crouched down by the sound box. He was there for, maybe a minute? And then he got back on stage. The sound was perfect for the rest of the set.

I just hope he can sort out whatever issues are standing between him and his ability to get the right people for these critical jobs in his professional operation...

This is why I opted not to go to Monday's aftershow. After seeing Andy's Facebook post about playing both Sunday and Monday at HOB, I figured that if anything Prince would let her play first and he might get up there for one or two songs. It just wasn't worth it to me. I have a ticket to Wednesday night's show, so I am hoping all of the kinks will be worked out by then.

I know everyone was disappointed not to see Prince, but no one has mentioned how Andy's set was. She only played People Pleaser at the Listening Party on Sunday. Did she play more songs from her album?

Yeah that is crappy but posting the sound guy's full name and a picture of him on the website Prince is using as his "voice" takes the cake in arrogance and disrespect. I don't care if it was only up there a short time, the fact it made it up there at all is a disgrace.

And I don't care if these are the most incompetent soundmen in the history of music, who is hiring them? Prince has to take responsibility. Then again, I am guessing the best in the business know the guy's reputation and would not work with him anyways.

What a piss take. He's been pissing and moaning about soundmen for years, sometimes even when the sound's fine.

I reckon he'll sort it and knock out some blinding aftershows to make up for it. Well, he might do?

It's not funny though, if you've spent your holiday money on flying out to see him, hotels and all the shit that goes with it. All for him to serve up what sounds like a dodgy main show and a hollow afterparty... Not that I flew anywhere but some people might have.

Good luck with the rest...

Those who did that are learning a hard lesson: don't travel long distances and/or go in hock to see Prince. You are bound to be disappointed if you do. He simply is not reliable anymore.

I have tickets for the show and after jam tonight. Last night's show was not my favourite. It did not quite connect for me and the disappearance was maddening.
I think having highly publicised after shows is a mistake. Better a small venue where he might or might not play. Scheduling all this seems like a poor idea. I hope I am wrong and that tonight is wonderful but, alas, having seen great aftershows I have expectations that I should not have.

Some people that attended the afterjam show say they spoke to the police, and it is confirmed it was not them shutting the place down.

Who is at fault now?

I read that as well and I cannot speak to whether it was true or not however, when leaving I saw no police and the HOB staff was not ushering us towards the front door like that have done at all the other HOB shows I stayed the whole night for.

I am pissed. I do have a little bit of hope that he may try to make up for last night. If it has the remote chance of being the fuckery last night was, give people the opportunity to get their money back.

Sorry to hear this. I attended the gig in Germany, which was far worst so I understand how you feel. This is also AA last night to shine I suppose. People on her fb are also critizing her, but she is constantly deleting comments. Weak!

you know, I am perfectly ok with it being Ms. Allo's night to shine. That is what I was expecting. However I did think it would start earlier and we would get to hear the whole album.

I thought she was very brave getting up there in front of a crowd that thought they were there to see Prince.

Nowhere it is mentioned that Prince was gonna perform. The House of Blues Jam is advertised as AA promo. I think many people that attended the show knew this in advance.

Same at North Sea Jazz earlier that month. If it was John then and Kyle now... What's up with his P&O? Think this would have happened to his role-model James Brown? At least he kept his personal/personnel problems offstage.

oh I agree, but I also believe that people were not paying attention that it was going to be an AA showcase and I also believe they didn't care and thought Prince was going to play.

As an HOB staff member led me to my seat, it was made perfectly clear to us that Prince may not show and if he did, he may not play. Some of the criticism is dead wrong but some is spot on.

I agree, this is also what is commented everywhere so far. People are upset and quite rightly so, she announced that she would ask Prince and Maceo to be there....but of course these are all Prince tactics...to sell tickets.

If you are attending tonight, I hope it will be a better night for you. grouphug

When will people learn. Prince dont give a fuck about you. He tours using the cheapest means possible to ensure maximum profit for him. Threadbare stages, shit lighting, shit sound, shit logistics, shit planning and management.

He ain't gonna change, he is way too up his own arse now.

If he had any ounce of decency left he would drop the sampler set, or stop mouthing off "real music..." bollocks every other fucking day. Blames others for the sound issues etc but he is the one in control, he has told us that enough times. As for being in two places at once so he could mix the house sound. Please. I still have nightmares over his sound mixing attempts on the 1995 tour.

mind

Where was it listed (other than her facebook) that it would be a Allo Showcase? I mean, I knew beforehand that there was a possibility that Prince wouldn't play but out of the 30 people I talked to NO ONE knew who Allo was or that she was even going to be showcased. Nowhere on their tickets did it state that. Also, I was on the rail and there were indeed plainclothes policemen with badges on the floor. I saw about 5 of them. They did not shut the show down but the venue however does close at 4am. So, I just chalk it up to a minor loss. Hopefully tonight's show and aftershow goes smoothly.

How many "sound problems" has Prince had the last few years because of his cheap assing and laziness? This is EXACTLY why I won't travel to see the dude anymore. If he comes to Detroit I'm there as that is home. But spending money to travel? Those days are long gone.

I saw that, and if it were me, I would SO press charges for defamation and unpermitted use of that photograph.

I completely agree with you....an absolute disgrace to diss the guy in public with name as there is noone else but Prince to blame but hey, it is never his fault.

He never learns about his mistakes. In Cologne he blamed the sound man, but nothing was said about the fact that he entered the venue very late so he didnt had the time to get things in order. About the curfew....he had the same problems in Cannes and in Minneapolis before. Also an exemple of no communication on fore hand.

But despite this all....a Prince concert is never dull and there is always a story. But

hopefully he will give you all something extra 2 nite...Fingers crossed....
