Andy Allo started her set around 3am and just got done...house lights r on...so far no Prince...

Prince tells the crowd: "I really want to stay..." But he can't. More booing.

I thought everyone must have decided to give it a miss after last night and the concert. Is there a curfew for the venue??

big props for coming out....BUT..he and his crew should have / must have known about this beforehand. He's been in the game more than long enough. He doesn't need a big set up - how about just him and an accoustic for an after show?.

Once again piss poor planning or sheer incompetence strikes again.

Come on P you're so much better than this and your fans deserve far better. Sort it !

Statement made regarding bad sound @unitedcenter and why HOB afterjam started late. Prince's management likes 2 apologize:

arrow http://www.drfunkenberry....that-sound

"Prince's management would like to apologize for any discrepancies in the quality of the sound last night.

Personnel changes were made after the concert hence the long delay after the show. (Equipment was set up very late at the House Of Blues Afterjam because of this. Andy Allo took the stage at 3 a.m. and the police were shutting down the venue around 3:30 before Prince & The NPG could perform.) Everyone could tell Prince & The NPG were ready to give 150%, They are feverishly working on Prince's clone as well to give 150%.

Prince LOVES all his fans in Chicago and will do whatever is necessary to bring the best possible experience."

And how well is that going down with everyone?

I was there and people were pissed. And since I have nothing positive to say, I'm not going to say anything more.

I would like to say, however, I think Ms. Allo has a lovely voice.

Wow, now that's the way to treat fans. Huge props to P & the team for the apology, thanks for restoring the faith. K. Hamilton must be pretty pissed this morning!. That said it is more than obvious that with a heavyweight like Alan Leeds at the helm stuff like this would not really happen. P you have to invest to get the best.

Lets hope that the remaining 2 main shows and 2 HOB gigs blow away last night.

We love u back P !

[Edited 9/25/12 3:21am]

The typos and errors in word choice in this message just speaks to a level of unprofessionalism. When it speaks of Prince's management, who exactly would that be? Did they soundcheck the show properly to identify any problems in sound? And Prince--a veteran performer who has played the Chicago market for years--is surprised there is a curfew on a Monday night? 3:30 is such an unreasonable curfew, right? :eyeroll:

Sorry, P doesn't get a pass on this, no matter how much he wants to pass the buck.

At least it's good to know that he is planning to perform at the "afterjams." If Prince were really sorry, he would give something (refund? transfer of tix to another night?) to those who waited all night at the House of Blues for a 30 minute set. Whatever the reason for the late start and Prince not going on were not the fault of paying patrons.

Are there two versions of the apology letter or something? The letter on Dr. F's site doesn't have typos. Anyway, the part I don't get is that they were working on "Prince's clone". Was this an attempt at humor cuz I don't get it.

People should get a refund for the 30 minutes performance.

Prince at this stage reminds me of MJ. He's getting more and more incapable of delivering what he promises, subtly.

I'd still suggest everyone to see this guy live, if you have not yet seen him, cause he may not be performing for ever.

Prince I will always miss and love U.

On Monday night, Prince sowed discontent closing the first of three United Center concerts this week with a very belated third encore. But it wouldn't be the last time in a matter of hours fans felt manipulated—even deceived—by the unpredictable artist.

Early Tuesday morning's Purple After Jam at the House of Blues, the first of a trio, ended with disappointed fans angrily yelling "We've been had!" and "We want refunds!" Prince did not perform at the show, and at least a few people tried to get their money back from House of Blues staff. Attendees whose expectations were inflated by $75 ticket prices and a patience-testing wait of several hours didn't hear a single note of live music until around 3am. Prince protege and backup singer Andy Allo, beset by some early microphone feedback, performed several bouncy songs with the New Power Generation. Then, just after 3:30am, she said goodnight and the club's patchwork curtain closed to the audible bewilderment of those in attendance.

Fans who had heard about Prince's earlier sleight of hand at the Madhouse on Madison held out hope that this was just another trick up his silky sleeve. Chants of "We want Prince!" surged and died down. As the club's scheduled 4am closing time neared, Allo appeared from behind the curtain with an announcement: "We'd play all night if we could," she said, but the show could not go on. The crowd thinned, yet a large number of true believers kept hope alive. "Let's start a riot," one disgruntled fan joked. "There's enough of us."

A few minutes later came a report from the man himself: "Chicago—this is Prince," he spake Oz-like from behind the stage's curtain. He parted the drape and came out to face his downcast devotees. (He was, of course, shielded by dark sunglasses.) He took the opportunity to complain about how the sound had been run at the House of Blues, implying he could've done a better job if he could "be in two places at once." "Hopefully tomorrow night will be a different story," he said. Prince also blamed Chicago police, who he claimed were shutting down the show. "If you want me to stay," he said, "talk to them."

That may have been some shrewd blame shifting. The CPD's order to vacate the premises seemed reasonable seeing as it was given mere minutes before the predetermined 4am close. "The House of Blues is going to get about $10,000 in tickets tonight," one of the responding officers told me.

The air outside felt warm after a cold shoulder. "Prince is one mercurial motherfucker," said a man in the stream of crestfallen fans heading into the early morning darkness. Perhaps this is what it sounds like when doves cry.

NuPwrSoul,

Agreed; the right business strategy would be to ensure FULL refunds occur to all, without question or prompting, and IF Prince was particularly good at customer service (to enhance good will), then I would expect at the very least a good will gesture/offer of another show (the cost of which is absorbed by Prince's management), where he ensures the performance is "delivered" in every sense of The Word. Anything short of this is poor business, let alone anything else one might wish to add. It is unfortunate that Prince, an exceptional performer, chooses to surround himself with amateur executive talent, but c'est la vie.

love,

Spirit

A complete classless, dick move to post the sound guy's name and picture on Funkenberry's site.

Glad it was taken down, good move Doc, but it speaks to the level of cluelessness Prince and his people exist in.

How many "sound problems" has Prince had the last few years because of his cheap assing and laziness? This is EXACTLY why I won't travel to see the dude anymore. If he comes to Detroit I'm there as that is home. But spending money to travel? Those days are long gone.

I praise him for coming out personally, alone to face that crowd. But what a dickhead to let this happen. Either he's in charge and hasn't got a clue what he's doing and expects everyone to act on his every whim, or he has someone who arranges all this and that person should be fired immediately. I think it's the first thing. He knows there's a curfew. Equipment gets there late, no time for decent soundcheck? Let people know up front and allow them the change for refund beforehand instead of waiting for hours for what he knows is for nothing. But hey, Andy got to sing right? How did Billy say it again? What a fuckin' waste.

Prince has a clone?? Couldn't he have come on earlier instead??

In all the other typos (that were later fixed), only MJ007 and I found this on odd? confuse

Have I missed something?

(Or is that just a particularly cynical reference to Andy??)
