When did they stop letting people record at prince concerts? I am curious because wouldn't it technally be ok to to download shows from a while back if was ok to record them? | |

Any concert by Prince or any other musical artist, the ticket says "no cameras or recording devices allowed"

Seems everybody seemed to have missed the most important word in the OP's question and that would be the first word - When ?
WHEN did artists/management decide they didn't want their shows recorded by audience members and when did that warning start appearing at venues and on tickets etc...
I have no idea myself but am also interested in the answer. Hard to believe I've been on the org for over 25 years now! | |

I have no idea myself but am also interested in the answer. Intellectual property is a very complex field of law. I am no expert but, whether posted or not, an artists's performance is his property and this has been the case for a long time. I do not know when but I would imagine that, when recording devices became more portable, it became necessary to forbid recording. Illegal recordings would have been tough to carry out with some big old plug-in tape machine. I do not remember seeing signs posted when I was younger but I think the capacity to record things is probably what changed. Philmoreliz | |

As a longtime fan of livemusic in general i think that Prince really should adopt the practice of Metallica. They have recorded every show since 2003 and all of them are cheaply downloadable from their site. Prince seems to be doing quite varied setlists so this would be great service for fans. In case of Metallica - those recordings are quite straight from the soundboard so hardcore fans can listen and debate about mistakes, versions and such.

Sure there are artists that allow it, but all concerts that I have been to the standard blurb is always there on tix stubs.
