End of snipped songs?

No more snipped hits...

Is it really over with these?

Let's hope so! It is such a bummer if your favorite song is being played and then it turns out to be just a snippet. I think it is à very good development for Prince that hè plays most of his sing in full lenght versions these days.
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

He's been doing this since the Parade tour where it was not too bad, same with Lovesexy. He went nuts with it during 1997-2001, where it made his live performances a joke. He toned it down on One Nite Alone, and did even better on Musicology, but since 2006, he's been taking short cuts after short cuts. The worst is when he doesn't even sing, and holds the mic out for the fans to sing. Sad. His reputation live is overblown, but he used to live up to it. Now, there are flashes, but singing over a tape playing is just sad. Of course, some of the ass-kissers here probably would watch a whole concert with no band, just Prince singing a few lyrics over a tape, and being proud they paid $200 to watch Karaoke. As a huge U2 fan, I'm tired of them beating Prince with weaker material. U2 plays 22 full length songs every single show, and doesn't take short cuts. I like Prince better, but getting more than 10 full length songs out of him in one night doesn't happen too often.

lies...

The duration of the snippets section is overrated. It´s more like a fun part of a show.

I have been to many Prince concerts for over 15 years now and he played way more then 10 songs in full length every show.

The current tour is exceptional for his variety of songs. Each and every show of the current Europe tour has been different including the setlist.

The 3 nite stay at Ahoy Rotterdam @ North Sea was groundbreaking. There is no other artist around that can play so many different shows each nite...

Lies? Listen 2 the bootlegs of the Carolina shows. The shows themselves were very good, and almost great, but None were over 2 hours, and if you take out the time Shelby and whoever was singing, Prince does not sing for much more than an hour. "Kiss" features him singing 60% of the time, and the crowd singing the rest. Sure, there are some shows where he plays 3 hours. I'm sick of anybody who got a great show thinking this is what Prince does every night. I've listened to boots of tons of shows in the last 2 years, and they are hardly consistent. You get half broken songs, and you get lots of female nobodies on lead.

It may have been true of the American shows, not really listened to them. But it's certainly not true of Hop Farm, where over 20 full length songs were played and no snippets. Same with the 3 North Sea Jazz shows and most of the European tour.

Varied sets and full length songs. Has he done any sampler sets on the Euro shows yet?

RIP sad

That wasn't the case in Finland. There were no "snippets" at all and if there were, just a bridge between the "real" songs. We heard over 20 songs as a full.

Never said I didn't like. I'm being honest. I'm not gonna have my head in my ass and praise every single thing Prince does. He lets a clown like Tony M in the band, he's gonna get clowned by me, and my friends. He makes a great album like Lotus Flow3r, he gets praise. He makes an OK to almost weak album like MPLS Sound, he's only gonna get some lukewarm priase from me. It is hard for me to believe how much better Lotus Flow3r is, and that these songs came out of basically the same time period. But that is Prince, and I live with it.

I'm not gonna stop listening because he goes through the motions live, but I'm not afraid to admit somebody with an overblown reputation live doesn't have his problems. His short shows with background singers taking lead too much are still good shows, it is just that he is capable of so much more. I'm not afraid to be honest about it. If you are a fan who thinks that Shelby singing lead on 5 songs is much better than Prince singing, than that is fine. He does seem to play better shows in bigger cities. I saw him 6 times in the Carolinas, and not a single show was over 2 hours, and Prince did not sing as much as he could have. He gave Los Angeles better and longer shows for only $25. That's Life...

If you would rather hear Prince sing half the lyrics instead of all the lyrics...you can have that opinion. But don't be short sighted and stupid to tell me I can't listen if I won't kiss his ass on everything. I'm allowed to have my opinion. I love 20Ten, and some fans call it RoTen.

Stop the insults, very childish of you.

So what you want is for Prince to be the same as everyone else.

So like U2 we will know what to expect every show. YAWN.

The excitement of a Prince gig is the not knowing what will be and how long and who etc..

I completely agree with you about letting the back up singers sing too much, I don't like it. Fortunately it seems to have stopped and he is taking the lead more again.

Wow! Somebody agrees with me? Damb. I might as well retire from this site right now. I can't believe all the Prince Koolaid drinkers here. He's my favorite, but if he screws up, I'm not gonna be a Yes-Man.

Honestly I hope so, we dont need anymore snippets. Play the d*mn song in full, or lay it 2 rest 4 the night.

I just dont like snippets or cover songs, messing up my purple groove.

Ok, sorry to insult you. I took insult to what you said. You told me not to listen to Prince, and then you said I was sad...doesn't sound so nice....because in your world you either are 100% happy or 100% sad. In my world, I have opinions. I like Prince's concerts better than U2's. I honestly admit that U2 gets a ton out of limited musical talent, while Prince seems to take it easy. Again, my opinion. I don't live in a White Bread and Roses world. I live in a world where I can have my own thoughts.

Yes you do have a opinion and so do i, otherwise there would be no point in having a forum.

What i mean when i said dont listen to Prince was if your not happy with how the shows are , you have the option of not going. The same as those that come on and complain about certain albums, just dont listen to those.

I have been to Prince concerts and thought it was not that good and the next week you go and get blown away.
