Hi Folks,

Just went by the park on the way home and took the latest shots. Weather is super last few days though some rain fell as I was taking these. Not to worry - forecast is for a great day on saturday. The pit is not sectioned off yet as the stage is not complete and they are building from the front as the areas at the back and side are sealed.

I can tell you it is very intimite and every seat/standing spot is a good view. Respectfully I am questioning if 30K people are attending - the setting is more in the 15-20K range very maximum. there just is no room for 30K but we shall see. So fear not if arriving early or lat, you'll have a good view

hi there,
Malahide is your stop. the village is small enough, and the castle is actually in the village, as I remember it's no more than 5 mins walk from the station.

Thank you very very much for all the info smile feel much "safer" now, when in Belgium last year we resorted to sleeping in the car at the parking until 2 am when it was beginning to thaw (so to speak). Shit, Dublin here we come!

And to tell the truth, I was really disappointed when Croke was cancelled, had tickets and all. But if I'd gone to Croke I believe I'd probably chosen another country this time around. And with the buzz around this one? As we say in Sweden - nothing bad happens without some good not coming from it.

See you at Gibneys! I'm gonna be in my Nude-tour tee, which probably is gonna makepeople blind - think I might have problems to fit in it... Just realized some things have happened in the last 20 years without me noticibg apparently wink

We are on the final lap before the big day. Prince in Germany tonight and I guess arriving in Dublin tomorrow. Every window in my house facing the park will be open tomorrow, I am hoping for a sound check..Straight on my bike and to the park/castle if that happens.

Malahide is relaxed, cool and ready 4 U. The media is in a frenzy today, concert talk on Today FM, 98 FM and 2 FM. The 8am news on 98FM mentioned that 27,000 people are attending the concert and there will be ample public transport with trains running from Connolly station to Malahide. The Malahide train station is right in the center of the village and the walk to the concert is 10 minutes maximum. there are tons of coffee houses (Starbucks, Insomnia + many locally owned ones), approx 15 restuarents in the village spanning traditional, french, greek, indian, pakistan, chinese, thai, italian, mexican, and spanish, and there are 2 shops that do fast food / fish & chips.

Safe travels to all on route.

I will be posting more photos tomorrow afternoon to get y'all thrilled up.

And PRINCE, if you are following this thread, would you please play PLANET EARTH !

I have a feeling he will be on time(ish). I think this is going to be his way of an apology for Croke Park.

I'm getting very excited now! Only two days to go and I'm ripping plenty of his CDs to MP3 to play in the car up to Dublin on Saturday.

It's good that he's playing (suppositily) lots of greatest hits, but I'd like a few newer and more obscure songs as well... Anyway I've seen articles talking about what's on his set list and then in an interview the Man says he doesn't do set lists.. smile

Little news article .... look at it when it gets to 00:01:06, freeze frame it and in the top left hand corner it looks like a plan of the venue. You can see the seated areas and the lighting/sound area, but if that black line represents the PIT....it is tiny.

What do you think??

There are no silly questions, only silly people. smile

Irish Rail run both the trains and the DART's, and both run on the same tracks. So if you look up, for instance, Connolly Station to Malahide, it will list all trains and DART's serving that route. It also tells you which is which, but it doesn't make much difference - as they all run on the same tracks you just get whatever is going next.

Tripod isn't particularly close to the DART line, so any of Pearse Street, Tara Street or Connolly Station will probably do you. Of those I would say Connolly station might be the best bet as (being one of the main stations) it actually has a car park, the other 2 don't. There are plenty of car parks close to the city centre DART stations too, but some of them close overnight (not sure if the Connolly station car park is 24 hour or not, it doesn't say on their website).

The POD website has quite a nice map on it, click here to see it. If you mouse over one of the locations on the left, it flashes up on the map (or if you mouse over one of the locations on the map, it flashes up on the left to tell you what it is), so you can see the route from Tripod to Pearse Street and Tara Street. Connolly Station is just off the edge of their map, across the river. I think it's roughly a 30-35 minute walk from Connolly Station to Tripod (or less than 10 minutes in a taxi).

I think it all looks tiny - from a distance. The pit area (if that is indeed the pit area demarcated by the black line) then it's roughly about the size of 4 seating areas (ish). Now have a look at how big just one seating area is (around 00:01:21 to 00:01:27), and imagine how many people could fit onto an area 4 times that size. Not that small really.
