This was the best show out of all 3. I think it worked out better that Larry came out in the middle of Prince`s set instead of opening. Also Prince said he promised to come back soon. Maybe more Bay Area shows in the works.

I agree that worked really well, I thought.

Also, I think Take Me With U was an encore not the opener....he said "I'm tired of singing, you sing for me now."

The opener was The Love We Make which really was stunning.

Take Me With U followed immediately after The Love We Make, which was then followed by Guitar. Man, these setlist reports are awfully shoddy = /

Great show, as always, but I wasn't feeling the crowd as much on this one. I was sat next to mostly old fogies or casual concert goers who didn't give much of a shit. Plus I was right at the arrowhead where two aisles meet, and had to constantly watch security eject people and guide others to their seats with flashlights the whole show. Very distracting. The drunk chick during Raspberry Beret was particularly good.

Wednesday's show was without a doubt the best between the three, in my estimation.

Re: the club mighty after party rumor: Tonight is their 80's night. Sounds like publicity to me. They also have no stage. I call BS on that rumor.

Yeah, you know what, I went straight to the show from work and had no dinner. I was expecting an intermission to get food and instead was surprised by the no opening act and 3 hours of amazing Prince.

It was one of the best concerts I've ever seen and the best Prince concert I've ever been to. But I only have 3121 in LV to compare it to, a couple of shows (I'm originally from the NW and Prince never played there much).

You will have to forgive us the shoddy setlist tonight. We were all having too much fun.

Yeah, there were definitely some blue hairs there tonight, but honestly, I thought the crowd was pretty great. Where I was, everyone was dancing and on their feet the entire 3 hours.

The encores went on forever. I did think we'd get one more, but I lost count of how many there were. I need to sleep and take it all in.

I know there's video screens, but did anyone see a few more cameras then usual? He needs to release one of these Welcome 2 America shows on DVD in full and maybe with that 40-minute 21 Nights In London documentary that was made.

Agreed, the crowd was into it for the most part, and Prince pulled another amazing setlist for the occasion, and with just as many encores. It was well worth being there! How surreal. Two nights in a row with Prince, each with a different setlist (well, mostly).

Weds will always be -the- show for me personally, though. There are many reasons why, personal and otherwise. It was great to be there for both! Had to call my next of kin to tell them my socks didn't even match after all that funk n' roll.

Still insanely jealous that Monday got Bambi, but I'd say we more than made up for that.

I agree that he should release a official Dvd of The Welcome 2 America tour. If not, hopefully someone filmed these shows like they did for all 6 NY/NJ shows.

This was one of those Prince shows that washed away all of the frustration you might have had with prince and his ways in the past. I have seen probably about 25 P shows and this was possibly the best I have ever seen of him or anyone. You always hear people say that it was the best show ever but this was really something special. From the first track you could tell it was going to be something different. You didn’t get the speeches and routine jokes vibe I don’t think he even really talked for the first 5 songs it was just no holds barred music time. Even some of the things that drive us crazy like Larry and the 1000 performance of kiss somehow worked. His voice, the arrangements, the sound system...just flawless. The relationship he has with Sheila is something totally different than I have seen from them or almost anyone. So many things tonight people were all over the place. Sheila played the full kit on an encore., LRC, she’s always in my hair, the love we make...just special. If I missed this show I would only be saved by the fact that I wouldn’t know just how much I lost out on. Almost felt sad to go home and back to regular life.

I wish we all were nude. I wish there was no black or white I wish there were no rules.

Just some real quick notes:

He played "Guitar" somewhere near the top of the setlist

He started the piano set with instrumental of Under the Cherry Moon, went into Do Me Baby, then the snippets started which also included The Most Beautiful Girl

During his set with Larry he wowed by playing guitar one handed and with the other piano at the same time! For a good while too!

Also with Larry he was playing the congas and guitar at the same time, putting the pick in his mouth while he banged on the congas and then playing rhythm without missing a beat.

He also did this cool jump onto his piano....he put his hands on the base and kinda launched himself up there rabbit style..don't know if that make sense lol

And yes he did play for nearly three hours! Best concert EVER!!

Now THAT is what a fine musician is all about! Gotta teach the younger generation what's up! None of that auto-tune or what have you. None of the digital stuff. Just plain RAW music with real musicians playing real instruments. I wish I could've seen him rock Oakland for 3 nights!

I just got home from the show.... drove through a blizzard the last half hour. I did not see the Wednesday show so I can't make any comparisons in that regard, but Thursday blew away the Monday show in many respects.

One thing about Monday was the better crowd. It seemed like the Thursday show had a lot more casual fans and those who went because they heard good things about the other two shows. On Monday everyone was up. On Thursday there were more people sitting down. I had an aisle seat in Sec B Row 4 and that section was rocking, but others were not as lively.

Musically, Thursday was better. The show production was better as well. Shiela E's grand entrance and Larry Graham in a guest spot a little more than half way through the set both came off very well. I've seen a dozen P concerts going back to the early 1990's and Thursday is in my top 3. It was over the top. I even caught one of Shiela's drum sticks at the end of the show. I got the last one she tossed out. She is sooooo awesome. 8-)

Security was tight up front as it was on Monday. I kicked the nearby security guard a 10 spot so I could take some pics with my smuggled in digi camera. She also let my lady friend hang w/o a stub. I got some really awesome pics both nights, and a few minutes of video as well. I got Shiela E's entire drum solo. It was fucking amazing.

Thanks everyone for the reviews. I'm highly jealous. This show was better than the one I saw in NYC 2/7. He performed all my favorite songs on the Oakland tour...confused

But glad you guys had fun. wink

Thanks for sharing. Orger "L4theoriginal"is going to be pissed off that Prince sang "The Love We Make" at the Oakland show and not at the shows in NYC. That was the song L4 was hoping Prince sang at MSG. Poor thang.lol

Prince will always be loved in the San Francisco Bay Area. I thought I read somewhere that we are his number one fan base. He knew he could announce a show on Thursday and it would sell out all 3 shows. He has played at the civic center, warfield, san jose event center, oracle, paramount, fillmore and aftershows at DNA. He plays all over the bay and we all flock to him. He played the San Jose Event Center and the bottom floor was standing only, you should have seen the crowd bounce up and down the whole night. Great music from a great musician

Last night was the last night of the Oakland shows…..I attended Monday’s show, had a great time and was very impressed but it could not hold a candle to what I witnessed on Thursday night.

One thing that I recommend for people (if you can) is to sit in lower level for a show, and floor for another. You get a completely different experience. For lower level, I got a great overall feel for the show with a view slightly above the stage so I can see the lighting as well as the performance.

The floor gives you a very intimate experience of the show but you have no idea what the actual stage looks like. Both were awesome, but I always prefer up close & personal on the floor.

So why do I consider Thursday nights show one of Prince’s best arena shows that I have ever attended? It was all over the place, he played rarities, fairly new songs, and hits galore. I won’t go into the setlist cause that has been done but it was sooooo unpredictable and a completely different show that I saw on Monday.

Couldn’t believe he opened with “The Love We Make”, and that version of LRC is literally the best I have ever seen! Prince and Sheila have amazing chemistry and I have not seen them act this playful since the Lovesexy days!

The encores are what floored me….one after another. I felt he basically took Monday and Tuesdays show and combined them for Thursday night. This is one show I left thinking “He did just about everything!” Hit after Hit for the encore and he invited floor people to rush the stage for COOL. Being 2 feet away dancing to COOL was insane!!! Almost everyone thought the show was over…lights were on but crowd continued to chant….he came back for 2 more "Lets Work” and U got the Look. (again dancing right next to the stage with other hard core fans!!)

Are you kidding me? Thursdays show was at least 1 hour longer than Monday nights show. 3+ hours….I think I prefer not having an opening act!!!

I know some have witnessed Prince 100s of times in concert. This was my 21st time and it was the best arena show I saw him put on! (along with Lovesexy).

Absolutely blew me away…..and paying $280 for Section A seats with last nights set, was worth every penny and the 2 hour drive home to SACRAMENTO!!!!

Still in awe this morning!!! eek
