Prince to play Oracle Arena 21 & 23Feb.

We've just got the scoop here at MoQuake that Prince is finally coming to the West Coast and about to announce that he's playing the Oracle Arena (formerly known as the Oakland Coliseum Arena) this coming Monday 21st Feb and Wednesday 23rd Feb.
No ticket details just yet but we do know they go on sale this coming Friday (18th) so stay tuned for more info as we get it.

We hear there's more dates in the area coming soon so don't panic too much if you can't make next week.

PRINCE ANNOUNCES HIS FIRST WELCOME 2 AMERICA WEST COAST DATES

2 NIGHTS AT THE ORACLE ARENA IN OAKLAND

NEXT WEEK!
...
FEBRUARY 21st and FEBRUARY 23rd

TICKETS ON SALE THIS FRIDAY AT NOON AT LIVENATION.COM

“He had the crowd panting as soon as he hit the stage…It was unbelievably great. Do you go to a Prince show for predictable consistency? Ah, no. You go for moments of divinely inspired madness — and last night, he delivered as many of those as a fan could expect.” – Rolling Stone

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 16, 2011) Prince has declared a string of Purple days in Oakland, bringing his extraordinary Welcome 2 America tour to the West Coast for the first time with the announcement of two nights next week at the Oracle Arena on February 21 and 23. Show time for both events is 8:00pm. The announcement comes on the heels of six incredible shows in the New York area that wowed fans and raving critics with his singular stage presence, leaving them screaming for more each and every night.

Tickets for the Oakland shows go on sale this Friday, February 18th at 12:00 Noon PST at Ticketmaster.com and LiveNation.com.

The New York Daily News raved, “Prince worthy of all royal accolades…The hit-friendly show had a kinetic confidence and racing pace that spoke of his singular place in pop history,” while the New York Times said “It’s easy to envision Prince as another Chuck Berry or James Brown, barnstorming for decades to come.” The Star-Ledger encouraged fans to see the show with their review — “Any doubt that the diminutive singer could still bring the heat was put to rest at the explosive concert that kicked off the Welcome 2 America tour…Prince, remarkably, remains at the height of his powers. He's a national treasure. Catch him while you can.”

Prince Welcome 2 America Oakland Show Dates:

Monday, February 21 Oracle Arena
Wednesday, February 23 Oracle Arena

I do not understand this & not too sure I believe it. I do not believe even for 2 dates all the tickets will sell that quickly. Look at what happened for the New Jersey dates - a show cancelled and lots of empty seats. It will be very interesting to see how this thing unfolds.

Well ‘they’ say there will be more shows for the Bay Area to be announced.

And knowing him and his peeps... I suspect they may be using these 2 short-notice shows to gauge his draw in ticket sales for tha Bay Area. Evidently towards the end of his Madison Square Garden, NY shows, ticket sales slumped to the point where he hadn’t even sold out. And you know Prince, he rarely doesn’t sell out every show.

And since 'we' here in tha Bay Area love tha guy he’s sure 2 sell out these 2 shows in record time!!!

I think there will be more shows, and hopefully smaller more personal venues will be included!!

Crossing my fingers... LOVE U PRINCE I"VE SO MISSED U !!!

I was just investigating flights and fares to OAK or SFO for those dates and it's a bit much for me right now. If he's going to add more dates then maybe I'll fly out and catch a later show. Any reason to rack up some air miles and see Prince.

Everyone on here who cried about Prince being in New York and them being on the West coast should be buying tickets on Friday. He should sell out no problem there were too many tears shed on the ORG about 'why is he staying in NYC so long?' and ' what about the rest of us?'

Now's your chance. Drop that paper and show Prince some love!

When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Not true. ALL the MSG shows sold out. I wondered about 2/7 until I got to the Garden and it said on the screen outside of MSG that the show was sold out. Now NJ was a different case. I'm sure that Prince will sell out at least one of the Bay Area shows. I'm glad this tour is now really a tour. Prince is on fire right now and everyone needs to see just how kickass that man STILL is! biggrin

I'm considering doing the same thing. If Prince does L.A., my ass is there! I haven't been to San Francisco since 2000 so it would be a great excuse to go there again. lol

That's how I took my first trip to San Francisco. Shot out there for his show at the Orpheum and chilled for the weekend. Had a great time and loved seeing the city! Plus I love travelling in general so any excuse is a good one!

It doesn't look like he's going to have that ill conceived stage either. GOOD! It seemed like a dumb idea for some of the "best" seats to have limited views. I'm going to try for tickets for the show on the 23rd and then wait to see if he announces more dates.

The show on the 24th may or may not happen depending on how quickly the first 2 shows sell. I would not plan on there being any more shows after this though. If you want to see Prince in the Bay Area...... this is it.

I know that's right! I have to check out flights. I don't think I can do next week but I might do the others. I'm going to call my friends in Cali and see whats happening on their end too. It would be cool to see Prince in different city. biggrin

Oh, and another thing..... HOW THE FUCK ARE THEY GOING TO BE ABLE TO GET TICKETS IN PEOPLE'S HANDS WITH HARDLY ANY NOTICE?

It's going to be will call only. Either that or you will have to print the tickets yourself. I hate that option. I like having a real ticket, but I guess it's either that or show up really early to get in line at will call.

Question... Does anyone know if he's still offering those $700 and $500 VIP packages? Not that I can afford it in this current economy. Just wonderin'

What about that other website which allowed presale purchase of tickets with a password? Is that still around?

I second that. I saw that too. MSG was sold out on 2/7/11. There were many last minute purchases leading up to that show, being it was the last on in the NYC area, and he did pretty well selling tix for the MSG shows.

As far as last minute announcement, they kind of did the same thing at the end of October for the NYC area as well, if I'm not mistaken. I think we had less than a week, but for Oakland they have last than 72 hours notice to buy tix.

Yeah, I noticed only 2/21 and the 23rd is coming up on tixmaster, so yeah, it will obviously depend on the demand for another show, if the first 2 sell out.

As far as I know there will be no VIP packages with these shows. It's too short notice and it's going to be a standard stage setup. No guitar-shaped stage for these shows..... which is a good thing.

No pre-sales either. Again, no time.

^^^ I'm not so sure about that. I just called the Oakland Coliseum office and they aren't sure yet what kind of stage Prince is going to have. The person I spoke to said (hopefully!) they will have more information on the stage set-up by tomorrow. I said this information is crucial to buying tickets on Friday! She ruefully replied, "Yeah, I know!" They seemed flustered by this last minute announcement, just as everyone else is! razz lol
