Feb 7 show added Change the name of the Tour

Hate to sound jealous, but with the announcement of the Feb 7 Madison Square Garden show...it may as well be called "Welcome 2 New York." I live near Orlando, and as far as my research goes, he has never played here. He even played my hometown of Tallahassee twice, and played somewhat nearby Lakeland, but no Orlando. What a weird tour.

Should have put this with the above...from another thread, but fits here pretty well...

Somebody needs to tell Prince a big big secret:

1. Money making tours have tickets on sale several months in advance

2. Said tours usually have some type of strange ritual performed

3. (Oh Yeah, that strange ritual is called pro...mo...shun)

4. It helps to have some sort of album out, not including ones you have to buy on ebay from somebody from another country, and hope to get it someday.

5. If tour happens, have a good number of seats available for $25 or less in a bad economy. (You can make a lot of money by getting a bunch of people in the stands, and you can still charge a bunch for the top 1000 seats, and make a huge profit.)

6. Play the hits, but play at least 6 full length songs from the last 5 years, so die hards will not be bored to death.

7. Every single song should be full length and should feature Prince on lead vocals. It would be like Wendy and Lisa singing lead on 10 songs on the Purple Rain tour with Prince playing rhythm guitar.

8. Every single song should be a PRINCE song. If I went to see Aerosmith, and they sang a bunch of Bon Jovi songs, I would be pissed. Remakes are for cover bands playing your local bar. Prince has my permission to play Just My Imagination, or A Case of U. Any playing of Everyday People, I want to Take You Higher, Come Together, and especially I'll Take You There...is FORBIDDEN!!!

I do not agree with any of your points. Why would he need promotion or why put tix on sale months ahead? He could play the Garden once a week and it would sell out. (And I'll be at every one of 'em!)I'm glad the tix are priced the way they are. It makes it easier for me to get tix. As for the songs, are you tryiing to tell me Sheila E shouldn't sing? As for covers, I say bring them on! And no, I do not want to hear any mediocre songs off of his last bunch of releases. Not one song compares to his older output.

Uh...ok. On the original thread, over 6 replies agreed 100% with me. You probably just loved the Lotus Flow3r website too? Oh yeah, you hate his recent albums...just like Bart Van Halen does. Most of his recent studio releases are pretty good for the most part...but back to debunk you... The Izod did not sell out any of 3 shows, so they had to cancel one of them. And promotion is a bad thing?

Tell that to U2. I think Prince will fall a little short of the $389 Million U2 made on their 2005-06 tour, and I know I am reaching here, but Prince will probably fall short of the expected $750 million U2 is projected to make from the 2009-11 tour. No, I'm not saying Prince needs to be U2. He's better. He could probably benefit from having actual Management. Prince always does things the cheap way, and ends up costing himself. How many times has he had unpaid bills, and run into money trouble? Let's just say that nobody in U2 will be running out of cash anytime soon.

Tell me, would you pay $200 for this concert?

The high prices and relative lateness of tickets going on sale have kept a lot of potential scalpers out of the game, that's definitely a good thing. You better believe if prices were lower and tickets were put on sale sooner, there'd be a whole lot more people scooping them up just to re-sell for profit. I'd rather give the extra money directly to Prince instead of some ticket company or StubHub or Ebay seller.

As for the tour name, I think it has more to do with the location where virtually every immigrant from 1892 to 1954 first set foot in America.

Of course, I put the date of the show, the set list, and oh...wait a minute. I NEVER SAID this show took place. I just asked a question. Good thing reading skills are not important these days. And if you see above, you see a lot of other people agree that Prince has made some good music lately as well. Prince has had a lot of concerts lately that are very expensive, less than 2 hours stage time, and feature female singers singing remakes. By the way, it is just a fan website, I am allowed to talk out of my ass. Of course me talking out my ass is usually on a higher level than many talking out of their mouth.

Wow what a ridculous post Prince is not going to make U2 money because he is not doing anywhere near the number of shows that they do when they go on tour. It is like comparing Apples to Oranges. If he wanted to do it he can he did with Musicology which had promotion and a CD out with a major record label and he did covers at those shows.

For whatever reason he has decided to make the large arena shows almost like after parties it appears to me making the fans happy and he is selling out MSG.

Since we are in bad economic times just maybe he knows what he is doing by staying in one big city and performing. You are knocking something that appears to be working.

It would be. There's hope but we all have to be ready to hear the hits. Sad (depending on how you look at it) but true. I've prayed on it and my fingers are crossed that there will be more of the "newer" stuff with the remaining shows or at least an aftershow.

I'm so curious as to why this guy is just adding more and more NYC dates if this is called the Welcome 2 America Tour, I can't lie. I mean it's cool and I'm happy that I get to go again, and THIS is one of the main reasons Im so sick of living in NYC but can't leave (everything happens here!) but it's just... strange. I'd like to assume that at some point he'll take this thing elsewhere, but y'all already know how Prince can be, he just be doing stuff to be doing it. No rhyme or reason.

I'd also love some other songs besides the ones he's been pulling out for these shows, I need some Parade/Around The World In A Day-esque stuff but w/o horns on this tour, my dream of hearing Mountains doesn't look like it's gonna happen.

In any case, I hope that Prince fans in other states will get a visit from Prince at some point this year. Otherwise why would the shows be called Welcome 2 America? **shrug**

It's called Welcome 2 America because the shows feature opening and support talent that is from America. Prince is giving back by featuring homegrown talent at his shows. He has a history of this before: he was totally selfless in 2006 when he gave Tamar her own tour and billed himself as the support act. My only wishes for Welcome 2 America: 1) perform "America", and 2) invite Tamar to open a show! eek

Hopefully by the time i get paid i can afford some tickets for the 7th. THANK YOU PRINCE!!!

Well, if you had 3rd grade reading skills you would read a part of my post that addressed this. I shortened it above to make it easier for your shortcomings. I was using sarcasm. With real management and the ability to make career decisions, Prince would've been just as big as U2, but we all know the path he chose. U2 never had a Tony M in their band. As much as I love Prince, seeing Tony M, Damon D, and Kirk J in those Star Trek Next Generation uniforms was about the saddest thing I ever saw. Here is the guy who did SOTT and 1999 has this lame shit going on. Anybody who thinks that Jughead and Daddy Pop were great songs...well, I think you are an idiot.

And as far as his concerts. I would like to see about 15 recent songs with 9 hits, which would make 24 songs...but he doesn't play long enough to play 24 full length songs. He continues to survive on a diet of Kibbles N' Bits, and doesn't have the mentality or stamina to play much more than 2 hours. At least Bono's fat ass gives the fans 2 and a half hours, and I paid $55 for On Field seats at 4 different shows in 2009...so I went to 4 U2 shows for the price of one Prince W2A ticket. Of course, I think Prince is 20 times better than U2, but I also think U2 gets more out of themselves than Prince does...But I have to keep going to U2 shows, since they play tons of shows within easy traveling distance for me. From 2005-2010 Prince has made 1 appearance in Florida, and it was one of those damn covers concerts where he could've been playing 3121 material.

Sometimes seeing Prince is frustrating...like watching Michael Jordan play basketball with one arm behind his back...he's still better than most...but obviously not giving his all.

And to those calling my posts absurd? Just don't read them. If your level of intellect is so high, you should be updating the website at Harvard instead of reading anything I have to offer.

Somebody needs to tell Prince a big big secret:

Amen!

So why does P act like he doesn't know about this?

Is he ignorant?

Lazy?

Or just after some quick money?

Any other options?

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

At least Bono's fat ass gives the fans 2 and a half hours, and I paid $55 for On Field seats at 4 different shows in 2009...so I went to 4 U2 shows for the price of one Prince W2A ticket. man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
