I am curious to why no one else has mentioned Prince and his use of teleprompters at this show. Surely rehearsals could have aided Shelby n Lalah if they needed them. I was waiting for someone to say that some of princes songs were so obscure that even he forgot the words!

he's been using cue cards 4 years now

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

Last thing, in any event, Prince playing his same hits over and over is still better than seeing him do lots of covers as he has sometimes done in the past. One or two short ones is ok, but sometimes he has done more than that and it is really a disappointment.

Bottom line is without the proper promotion nothing will work. Granted 2 MSG shows sold out in 30 minutes, however, even after canceling the 14th, last night was half empty-not because he can't sell out an arena, but there was no promotion, no new album supported by TV appearances (other than The View), interviews, videos, etc. Throw in the economy and people needing money for Christmas and there you are. Compare this with Musicology concerts and notice the difference as I said in a previous post. For better or worse, his latest albums have not been commercial successes. Therefore, if he wants to, and we want him to perform 2010 and LotusFlow3r material, he has to do small venues. If he wants to fill arenas, unless there is another 1999, Purple Rain, SOTT or even Musicology (because of the blanket promotion) somewhere in the future, we will be hearing the hits with a few new things thrown in from now on. If he plays the promotion, video, interview, TV appearance game and tours for a new album, the best we can expect is another Musicology type tour where at least he play quite a few songs from that album (Musicology, Life of the Party, Satisfied, Call My Name, On the Couch), in addition to his hits.

ur so right when it comes 2 promotion and prince is his own worst enemy lately. he drops the ball much 2 quick on his releases of late, it's like he gets the front money, delivers the product and bounces and leaves it 2 others 2 promote it

I totally agree with this... Covers? No thanks. That's why I'm a little afraid of tomorrow's show with Larry Graham because I have no desire to sit through Graham Central Station and Sly/Family Stone songs... I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

I've come to accept that Prince will never be able to please any of his fans, so I've stopped trying to "expect" certain things from him and just go with the flow.. he's not a traditional artist, so I don't expect his concerts to be traditional in that he's only gonna perform "the hits" or only gonna perform less well knows songs.

Even with promotion he's all over the place. Remember he doesn't have a big label backing him and telling him to do this TV show or this appearance or this radio show. He does what he wants... Folks gotta stop trying to put this dude in a box with all these other traditional artists because he's not. Just go with it people! Have fun! Enjoy the show! Stalk twitter for the aftershow on Saturday night. I know I will. cool

I was front row VIP side by Renato & bass and he gave us plenty of love. Stopped in 3 spots around the back of stage, each side and directly behind drum kit. Fortunately, on the side by me it was directly in front of our table. This was done a good 6-8 times in the two hours. I will track it tomm. night in Garden.

My wife was also on the video screens above the stage as the video camera man did a close-up on her. We did not see it as it was above us but friends and even a cousin who I did not know was there saw her. Too COOL! cool She deserves it as she let crazy fan me spend on VIP Tables for four shows lol

Now we need some VIP love in the back for dancing up on the stage.

Wondering who that Blackmon guy is who 'killed it' during Shhh, did he used to be in Cameo?!!!

Larry Blackmon is the lead singer from Cameo John Blackwell is the drummer who also played with Cameo (and I caught his drumsticks during the Musicology tour!!)

See! See! What had happened wuz... Seriously, I didn't know he also played with Cameo. An honest flub leads to nice little info nugget. That's cool. Thanks for that one.

Alls I know is Tevin Campbell ruined "Shhh" for me (and I used to work at WBR cool )...and it wasn't until I saw P play it live and smash it into Question of U (Musicology Tour?)...THEN and only then did it literally become one of my absolute favorite live songs. (Used to have the download video until NPGMC folded and I lost my DRM files.)

Word to codpieces wink, John Blackwell is unconscious on that song, just all sticks and arms and feet. Nothing like it. The guitar gets no more lyrical. Easily the loudest slow jam ever, yet still all candlelight-y at the same time...and if it's not in the set tomorrow night...I'll take Q of U or Joy in Rep. Can never hear those enough.

Game....Blouses.

i was 13 rows behind the drums. he walked around the circle part of the symbol many times and gave us love too.

Cheers. No point in having "that" stage and not using it to it's full advantage.

Y'all know I'm checking the tweets and so far this is right on point. I'm surprised he's FLYING through these songs he's not even been on stage for an hour....

So curious to know what the other setlists are gonna be... and didn't he say in the radio interview that there wouldn't be "opening acts" but that the folks on the bill with him would be jamming with him... but Esparanza and Lalah did their songs already... so now what?????

Just saw a tweet that mentioned 17 Days... I'm like SAY WORD!!!???

Yep, I traveled 8 1/2 hours. Don't get me wrong, I do love to come to ny, but this show betta be jammin!!! Lol smile

[Edited 12/15/10 19:12pm]

I sure hope he has something up his sleeve and that setlist has more to it.. As for the tweets, yep, right on spot with that setlist thus far. I paid a ton of money for this Saturday MSG concert, so I really hope HE jams at least 2 hours. lol

This was my 1st Prince concert. It's been a dream of mine to go. It totally lived up to what I hoped it would be. I have to admit that I could have done with less Esperanza and Layla. I like them but a hour and a half of them was more than what would have been ideal to me....but hey I would have sat through 3 hours of them to see Prince. I can see how some people who have been to his concerts before would be unhappy with the set list. If you have heard all those same songs many times. Having never heard them before, live anyway, I was totally fine with it. He could have came out singing the alphabet and I woulda been singing right along with him. I thought that finally seeing him would quench my thirst but it just makes me want more. Damn U Prince!!! Had a great time.

This was my favorite show of the 2 IZOD shows. I really liked the setlist and Prince was really sexy during the perfomances. Plus, Laydown was funky and sounded soooo good opening the show! I was in awe after this show, I danced my butt off and had everyone in my section complimenting me! lol Even the folks working the door were telling me how awesome I was and that I was "what a true Prince fan" was all about! I predicted to everyone that Insatiable and Adore would be sung...or at least I hoped it would. And when he started on Insatiable...I LOST IT!!!!!! I couldn't talk after that show!

It was such a blessing too. When I got there, my nosebleed seats were upgraded for FREE to awesome seats. $20.10 tickets, $179.00 seats...thank you LiveNation!!! I was right there where Prince and the band came out. I really liked Shelby in this show too, very lovely vocals. Laila was pretty cool too!

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Wow! You were really blessed. I agree with your assessment of the show; it was my favorite show too. I Agree with the sexiness, Laydown, dancing butts off and the ballads. Prince brought his "A" game that night and not a flaw. No complaints from me. Prince was non-stop! It was truly amazing to watch. I was pleasantly surprised by my seats too, perfect location to see Prince and company.

Yes I was. I had such a time getting to NYC too...cancelled trip due to weather, finding new way to NYC, getting broke down in Virginia for 7hrs, then getting lost on the subway at 2am trying to get to my hotel. But once I got to the show and got the new seats...it all melted. And when Prince took the stage...wow, nothing else mattered and was all worth it. Prince really made my year! These IZOD shows were my 3rd/4th shows this year and everytime I ended up being in really great seats, 3 of the 4 times my seats were upgraded for free, so I ended up being very close to Prince and the stage. So I am one happy girl!
