A good one. Not as good as the Musicology NJ concert (best crowd I've ever seen). But Sec 3 Rows J and K on the aisle were rockin'. No props to the 3 ladies down the row who sat and watched the WHOLE thing from the jumbotron. Who has $ like that?

Catch U Saturday @ MSG...afterparty anyone?

Seems like the beginning is very close of what was on the photo that was tweeted before the concert. cool

I added a few things for you -- you are missing a song between Laydown and The Beautiful Ones...Prince left the stage after Laydown and Liv, Elisa, and Shelby sang Black Muse.

The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.

Arms of the Angels is that Sarah McLaughlin song.

They did play Black Muse, Prince was offstage doing a quick clothing change. It was sung by the ladies. I've never heard it before -- it could be a new song maybe, I'm really not sure. It was a slower song.

clapping bingo!! this is what prince lacks 2 see ..it's not all about just 1999, lgc, lrc and purple rain ..there is so much more he could do

but isn't that what he did at this show? Lay Down was in there. Uptown. Cool. Let's Work. Shhh. She's Always In My Hair. If I Was Your Girlfriend. Adore. Sometimes It Snows In April. All The Critics Love U In New York.

looking at the posted setlist, there are quite a few minor hits and things that weren't hits at all in there. and no Let's Go Crazy or 1999 or Little Red Corvette.

I think this was actually a pretty great mix of hits and relatively obscure stuff. of course he's been performing a lot of this stuff in the last few years, but looking at this set list, there's a lot of stuff in there that a lot of the audience in an arena show isn't going to be that familiar with.

all songs that he has done previously live tho on various tours tho ..when was the last time he did thieves in the temple? when was the last time he did even soft and wet? it's the constant same songs all the time tho that he does choose 2 do. prince's last few maintstream albums were either number one or close 2 it yet u look at this setlist, anything from those albums from recent years?

man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

well, the opener is certainly very recent.

as for the rest, for 99% of the audience, even for 99% of the hardcore fans that don't travel all over the world to see him perform every show, this is a pretty good setlist that nicely balances big hits and some relatively obscure stuff.

do I LOVE the setlist? no, not at all. but it's pretty good. I mean, I'm impressed that it wasn't a straight up hits show and I'm impressed that the covers and the songs sung by background vocalists was kept to a relative minimum.

this is a good, balanced setlist for this size show by most people's standards. including fans'. yeah, it's not an INTERESTING one for us, because we've seen all these songs in the setlists and because we've heard the bootlegs, but I wouldn't be disappointed by seeing him do this particular show live, in person. it covers the hits bases and it covers the bases for the more serious fan by digging deeper into the catalog than he usually does for this kind of show.

It really would be great if he were to add some new old songs like Theives. I mean when he did Let's Work and DMSR on the Musicology tour I was so pumped because he hadn't really done those in years, but it is four years later and he is still doing Let's Work regularly. Here are some songs that would be great to hear in concert live in a big arena that he hasn't done in a long time:

The Continental

Theives in the Temple

Elephants and Flowers

America (since it is the name of the tour)

Gold (wouldn't that be a killer song with his new gold plated guitar)

TMBGITW & Do me Baby (both of these two can replace Nothing Compares 2 U that he has been doing too long now)

Dolphin

not trying 2 by hard ass but this is what i can't understrand, the merchandise has shirts that say compassion and eeverybody loves me and he did laydown all tracks from a album that still 2 this date hasn't hit US stores. so if ur gonna sell that merchandise of songs then he should PROMOTE doing those songs. i just wonder what would happen if prince DID DECIDE 2 do a arena show of nothing but material from say 1999-present, how many would be saying HE DIDN'T DO THE HITS cry

but i would love 2 see that day myself lol

I think you guys are sorta forgetting that there will be other shows and according to Prince, different setlists each night. "Come early, come often, cause I got alot of hits..."

Who knows what songs he'll pull out for the next few shows... we'll have to wait and see.

Altho if he did America on Saturday night I might lost my MIND.

That is all.

Prince esta muerto...

Hey, Got a question.. and PLEASE forgive me if this has been talked about in this long thread..

but is this just a PRINCE show? Or were there others performing?
I had thought he was just gonna sorta be the "MC" and alot of other people were gonna do their stuff.. and he was just gonna do a song here and there.

maybe play piano or guitar while another artist sang??
how long of the 2 hours was HE actually on stage doing HIS thing??
Thanks for the info.. Peace.. wink

props to prince 4 taking risks with this setlist!

there a lot of songs there that a casual fan probably wouldn't recognise.. he gave 1999/let's go crazy/ little red corv a miss, a brave move imo.

i saw a clip of laydown, the sound was shit but enough to hear, almost like a metal/heavy rock track.. pfc

Spinner's review of the Dec 15th show. Apologies if its' already been posted - I don't have time to read the entire thread.

Pretty nice review - positive overall with just a little bit of the evidence the journalist hasn't been following closely. No unnecessary snark or sarcasm, which is really quite nice for a change.

yes... it was a Prince show!!! Esperanza opened the show with 3 songs I think, followed by Lala who did maybe 8 songs and then at 9:37 Prince took the stage and rocked for 2 hrs... out of the 2 hrs he was only off the stage 2 times to change his outfits...I don't know why you guys thought that he was just gonna do a song here and there.. I wouldn't like to see that at all, at least not a big show like this. I'd like to see more fan-favorites thrown in, but I'd like to have some feel-good hits moments as well.

Well to me, last night's show was KILLER!!!!! I enjoyed the hell out of myself! Yes, he played songs that he's played in the past. Yes, I would LOVE if Prince would play some different old songs and a lot more new songs too but you know what? This is Prince we're talking about here and and he does what he wants and I love him for it.

What made the show so different from shows in the last few years was that he had energy that I haven't seen him have in years. He was dancing his ass off, jumping on top of the piano a bunch of times, and his voice was in tip top shape. It was a fun show and I LOVED every second of it. I took one of my best friends who's never seen Prince before to the show and he loved it. He was shocked at how much energy Prince had. Prince did the damn thing and then some last night and I am excited about tomorrow night and all the other nights he'll be playing in my backyard!!!!!! headbang music excited dancing jig

So, I must ask, because I call him my muse...How is the song, "Black Muse?"
