Rotterdam Nov 2 - a world of difference

Rotterdam yesterday was a great experience. The soundcheck was excellent
featuring some nice jamming but also a couple of cool songs (set list
below). The show itself was very different from the regular ONA shows.
Comparing this to October 15, the show was a world of difference. I really
liked the Oct. 15 show, as Prince was very (religiously) inspired, and the
show had a nice flow with lots of extensive funk jams featuring a lot of
horns. Yesterday's show was more inspired by partying, and was more song
inspired. Not a lot of horn solo's, some nice jams but, in my opinion, a
great focus on songs. Prince played a lot of guitar. And of course it was
great that Sheila E participated. I must say that her musical presence was
more obvious during the soundcheck, which at times was quite Latin inspired.

The setlists below are not fully accurate, here's what I recollect:

Soundcheck (55 minutes)

Santana medley
Flashlight
Xenophobia
A case of U (great version with Prince on the "George Benson" guitar)
Don't play me
The truth
Guitar man (?)
Latin jam

Show (2 hours 30 minutes)

The rainbow children
Pop life
Purple rain (Sheila E on drums)
The work
1+1+1=3 / Housequake
Mellow
Diamonds and pearls (big surprise so early in the set)
The beautiful ones
Nothing compares 2 U
The ladder
Starfish and coffee
Sometimes it snows in April
Strange relationship
The ride
Sign o the times
Take me with u
Raspberry beret
Everlasting now

7 (acoustic)
Alphabet St (acoustic - great version)
All the critics love U in Holland
Flashlight
Anna Stesia (highlight of the evening for me)
Days of wild (with Prince playing Rhonda's bass)

Yeah, why is that? Were you giving shirts to members, next to the guy with the box of ballons? With instructions like "if Prince picks you to dance on stage, put this shirt on!" wink

What do you mean Patrick? that you more like the overdubed versions of 'live' songs by Prince (like the version of the greatest romance played during the Ivo Niehe show, the Days of Wild single from Montreal, the soon to be shipped (ha, ha, ha,) CD from the NPGMC, etc, etc.

How do you know that ONA live set is overdubbed? From what we've heard it's not.

I attended the NY aftershow. Before Antwerp started parts of that show were played by the DJ. The song "Just Friends" with Musiq (Soulchild) sounded very different (also when you compare it to the bootleg)

It will be overdubbed, even NPGMusicClub states that it is minimal overdubbed, which is in Prince words very overdubbed, but anyway Patrick, what the F**K has Bootlegs to do with this topic, only because of my site, woooww that's lame

Props to Erik Stroeve smile

If we take the 1+1+1is3 recording that is on the Days of Wild CD as an example, it is minimal.

Well since prince himself said on npgmc
ONE NITE ALONE LIVE with (minimal) overdubs

If he had to even mention that there were any overdubs, well that just makes me think its much more than minimal,

if it was so minimal he wouldn't have even mentioned it.
