Why Does Prince Play Holland?

When it's filled with nothing but complaing fams who wouldn't be happy if P turned up at their house and gave a 2 hour jam in their front room.

Ooohhh Prince you let me down, you played Purple Rain.

Ooohhh Prince I feel cheated there were 10,000 other people there, I thought it was just me & U.

Ooohhh Prince you don't like us because there was no aftershow.

Ooohhh I'm leaving NPGMC cause' I only got 2nd row.

Ooohhh you ruined the concert, you got the crowd to sing along.

It he was so bad then don't go back to see him, and give us all a break from this Dutch/Prince bull-shit.

RIGHT !!
We (4 members) came from Germany to see P in Rotteram - GREAT , very funky. It was the first P concert for a guy in front of me - he was very impressed and sooo lucky, after the gig he was "flying" outside.
The same like us.
I don`t know the problems of those people, who complain about
the gig.
I`m sure these people going to much more than 1 or 2 concerts.Like a kind of passion (-ok like me-) BUT : Why do they not stay at home,if everything was so bad??Why do they go 2 days later to the next gig ( and than to the next and so on, so on...)??

I DON`T KNOW...

Peace

Nobody said it was bad, it just wasn't as good as the shows he gave thus far in Europe.

I totally agree! I think it's kewl if you peeps who have already seen 10 shows now get disappointed to hear the same songs again perhaps so by all means let us know if this is the case. On the other hand just remember there are probably a vast majority of the crowd who have never had the pleasure of seeing Prince live. I am one of these people who have never been to one of his concerts.

I wanted to go 4 years ago when he was in Copenhagen but my girlfriend was being scanned that day (she was pregnant, it was a girl!). I am gonna see him in 1 week in Aalborg, Denmark and I would be very pleased if he would please a lot of these sing-a-longs (which seem to be very unpopular at his concerts apparently).

I just wanna see Prince get down, it will be me and 2500 ppl and I'm sure we will all appreciate seeing Prince get down on the old hits as well as playing off some new stuff but in my eyes there is nothing wrong with a healty mix wink

I think that dutch people are just nagging about everything.
Even if he hadn't played 'the hits', it would still be an OK-show. Why? Don't know... maybe we're just spoiled.

It's like we are still waiting for the soundcheck to begin and we are already wondering what he will play at the aftershow (of course there will be one... ahum)

BUT why he's playing Holland ?
We are also the best audience for Prince. At show time we are his closest friends, willing to do the work and more.
We have (maybe) the most members of all countries (compared to the amount of inhabitants); 1200 laminates for the Rotterdam show!!

After that it's the same old story... just let us be and we'll support him forever.

Why r the dutch judged by the reaction of a couple of morrons(is this spelled right). 11980 people like it very much !!! 20 people didn't, SO WHAT !!!
Prince rocked the place. The door problem was not Prince problem but a weak orginasation by the security.
If Prince should have played all the songs i was dreaming about he would have 2 play 4 more than 28 hours. So what's the point, i had a perfect time even after i've been 2 the fabuluos Xeno celeb. Peace 2 u all

U can give support in many ways. Buying yourself into the club does not mean you're a fan or a Prince believer,So 1200 paying customers does not implicate that there where 1200 fans up front.

I'm a dutch NPGclub member for 2 years now but my holiday prevented me from buyin' club tickets. So for the first time since Lovesexy '88 I did not stand first row. I stood 2nd row behind those who did get laminates.

Without the club, the front rows where filled with true fans who camped for days outside. With the club anyone with money can get up front.

A true fan gives a lot of energy during the show. It's all about motivation!!!
In my opinion, Prince reacts on this energy he get's from his fans... the front rows. The more U give the more he gives. Yes he looked happy, but he did not give it all. And I did not see those who where up front givin it all 2 him. We got what we deserved, a good show nothing more, nothing less.

U have 2 give B4 U receive.

Prince said Holland was special 2 him. In all relations, even the one with Prince, U have 2 keep working on things 2 keep it special.

I still think this was one of his better performances (Pretty Jazzy), but it lacked interaction with his front row audience.

Like you would join the club and pay $100 if you're not a fan just so you can be in front at the concert. You know it doesn't make sense.

Yep, I'm sure people have joined because Prince was performing, but, like JeePee said, you're not paying $100 just to get tickets, especially if you're not a fan. I think the main part of the new-members are people who were very critical about the club and wanted to wait first (for action) before they joined.

I stood 3rd row center and felt that everyone around me was giving 100%. Besides, the ones who were standing in the 1st several rows were already camping around Ahoy' most of the day. Only a few non-members were present at the time I arrived. How many 'true fans' were camping at the Ahoy' for days? Those days are over, you know that. Back in 88 I was 18 and a student. I had all the time of the world and was able to camp outside for 2 days. Most of us are 30+ now. We have jobs and a family...

Patrick, you're right saying that there are many ways to give support. Being a club member is one... but don't start complaining because you weren't in the 1st few rows for the 1st time headache
Just ask member 1200 (the one standing way in the back), if he was happy to be 'up front' because he's a member...

In the past you were also able to get in front; just get a number a few day prior to the show, go home and come back on the day of the concert... I've seen it done a lot (or saving good numbers for friends, remember?).

And I still don't see why this show wasn't a good show. People are saying that about dutch Prince shows for years now. Remember ...
- Parade (the 3rd show sucked, right?)
- SOTT tour (2?-06-87) (no Forever in my life)
- the Lovesexy 19-08-88 show (no Alphabet St.)
- Nude tour (the rain)
- D&P (Tony M.)
- Act II (1st night: no new songs during the encore, no Act I show)
- Gold tour (... can anyone help me with this one lol )
- NPS tour (Larry Graham, greatest hits, wasting time with a dance contest)
... do I need to go on? BTW, these are NOT my complains, just a few I have heard people say...
I have heard 100's of complains. It's not new. It has nothing to do with the club. It's just people like you who are nagging all the time!! Please, don't. sad
You are making the dutch look so bad.

Hi Alexnevermind,
you're right. Only a few are nagging. Most of us were having a great time!!! I know I did yes

Sorry for those who had to read all this lol
I'm just sick of those naggers, that's all.

I dunno Y?

& Y the comment about people just joining the club 2 scalp tickets? How can that B done, if U can only buy 2 tickets on one famname & moreover U have 2 show ur passport at the will call window.

I also wonder Y he made a stereotypical comment that scalpers R always bald.

He was not making a joke or something cuz he didnĀ“t smile or whatsoever. He was very grumpy during soundcheck when he made all of the above comments.

Well this was a ...average gig. I know this may abe a shock to a lot of people but after seeing all 3 nights in London I was looking forward to my Dutch music exchange night in Rotterdam.

The "soundcheck" was my favourite part of the night. He started with an incredible version of Something In the Water Does Not Compute and carried on into an almost instrumental version of Thank You Falletin Me Be Mice Elf Agin. After letting people get into position the band continued with a different version of Muse 2 The Pharoah which included elements of Love Bizarre. Rhonda was sent packing from the stage and then it was clear why once Prince grabbed the bass and started playing 777-9311 and The Stick. I don't think I would have wanted to hang around if my boss was about to show me how the bass "should" be played! To top it off Mr Eric Leeds came on stage to jam with the band!!! I thought I was in funk heaven.

Then the main show started. So far so good with probably my favourite live version of Rainbow Children out of the 4 times I have heard it live. The goodness continued with a great version of Pop Life and Xenophobia...Unfortunatley after around 30 minutes he thought it might be a good idea to play Purple Rain. This was the end of what promissed to be a great night for me. I felt sonically raped! At least in London he had the respect not to subject us to this track again and concentrate on playing music. Ths was the same version of Purple Rain that I have heard on too many occasions to remember...I never want to hear him play it again!!!

Altough he followed this with a fantastic version of Housequake/1+1+1=3 the gig never felt quite right again all night. He even cut out Family Name which in my opinion is a travesty.

Still I don't wish to totally dwell on the negative aspects of the night...I did still have a great time and it was clear that the Dutch are a party crowd. Although the 10,000 strong crowd was no where near as loud as the 3,000 people in attendance at each of the London gigs!!!

Peace

One of my best friends is Dutch and he says that the show was absolutely fantastic and he can judge as a fan for 20 years.
This is not about being Dutch or German or British ...
It's about opinion and freedom of speech.
If you liked the show ... great. If you don't ... a pity, but please don't let us play the game "who is the biggest fan". Everybody has the right to share his or her expressions.

I am Dutch and I was in rotterdam the 15th of October, and I loved it all the way. I never had one complaint regarding Prince, the setlist nor the afterparty.

So not all Dutch fans are complainers.
