LONDON GIG AND AFTERSHOW DAY 2 hello again...probably one of many to post for the gig.
what can i say...AWESOME...my personal dram came true in the soundcheck when i had the oppportunity to sing a song with prince and the NPG accompanying ME...wow...can't really say how well i did cos i couldn't hear myself as the monitors were facing to the audience...but it was an experience to cherish. the problems regarding the queue for the previuos day were sorted out and we prob got 40 minute "soundcheck" time. Prince was extremely relaxed..as i've said before i'm crap at set list but i remeber he sang ballad of dorothy parker amongst a few other. he then asked anyone of they would sing Manic Monday...well me being me i went up and asked to sing Girls and Boys instead...cos i'm like that!! I then proceed to completely blank on the lyrics much to princes amusement cos i asjed him for the cue!!...with help form the club members i got the song started and sang with the band for a couple of verses and chorus. another girl then got up and sang what prince originslly wante...manic monday!!; a guy sang shake and another girl sanfg an amazing rendition of how come you don't cll me anymore to which prince comented she was TOO good. we all had great support form the club members. the show itself was different to the night before. he started with rainbow children and then continued a completely different set. He seems a lot more relaxed and playful amking loads of jokes incuding a mad impression of Ozzie Osbourne ...hilarious. i;m sure the complete set list will be posted...i'm too knocked to try and remember. He ended passionately on Anna Stasia...awe inspiring. Highlights for me were the ladder, how come you don't call me anymore, and anna stasia. The after party was a lot more organised...they didn't need my contacts it was at the embassy room...all members gt in free and partyed away...its still going on now...i left early cos i'm shattered! prince did make an appearance for a short time...i was too busy dancing to really know!! anyway...i gotta go to bed...more tomorrow ms serendipity How, i'm gonna make that booty boom...step back, give a girl some room....OH

Awsome, I agree.
I sat in fifth row from the front and had an amazing view of the soundcheck and concert. I found the insence interesting which was burning on a small table in the left and right corner of the stage, right behind the small piles of pillows. Who cares about set lists The entire gig was so funky... sorry phunky... that Mr JB himself would have gotten up and danced the night away. For the die hard fans (I suppose) he did play a couple of 'older' songs near the end including an awful version of anastasia, raspberry berret and others. No purple rain this time ) The whole set was utter funk. Inbetween he suggeste we should all sit down again and he would play something mellow, such as 'Other side of the pillow' or 'Case of you'. The latter with an extended version of the last bit, which fades out quite quickly on the CD. Oh, and he asked this guy if one should follow or lead. the guy answered 'follow' and was subsequently booded by the crowd. Prince, however, shook his head and said 'all right, follow me onto the stage' and suggested the guy should sit on the pillows for the next few numbers After the lights went on again, there was the announcement that the aftershow party would take place in the Embassy. I heard some members complaining that they shouldn;t have made this announcement to 'ordinary' visitors. when I arrived at the Embassy, ther queue was almost as long as the one at 4.30 in front of the Apollo. It took me and my lovely seat neighbours (greetings Emma and Hayley!) about an hour to get in. Again some people complained about not getting in or only with laminate AND wristband, but if the place is full it is full... anyway. I saw you Serendipidy dancing in a corner next to the DJ Prince was there, Emma and Hayley had seen him in the VIP area (which we didn't have access to). His Guitar had arived, too but after stutting our stuff and explaining to some of the more posh visitors, that yes, tonight a lot of Prince owuld be played and yes, I wore the T-Shirt with the large symbol on the back because I liked Prince's music... some people... tch... well, we left at about 2.20 beecause it seemed very unlikely that the man would come out or even play again. shame I don't have a ticket for 2moro. All of you who do, Enjoy! It was a truly phunky experience... Sleep tight everyone. Kafkan A new home for deep funk:

Miss Serendipity, I can tell you this. Apart from forgetting the damn opening line (you should have said "Play it again Sam") You did extremely well. I think you got nuff respec for being cheeky enough to request your coice of karaoke for the evening. .

Thanks for the great report, I'm in awe that you could sing in front of the man, I think speaking would be hard enough. Keep those great reports coming, June in Canada seems so long ago now. Cheers, thanks alot.

I know!! I'm so jealous... You should be jealous! After spending thousands of dollars, years of being a fan, waiting your turn, and the only dream that comes true for you is catching a glimpse of Roger Nelson walking through a club and getting shoved by his rent-a-cops. Oh happy happy joy joy! Prince

I've seen P live loads of times now since Lovesexy in '88 and I can't remember being blown away quite as much as I was last night. Maybe its because he hasn't been over for 4 years, I dunno.
I don't think it was the best set list he's ever done (it might go against the grain with some fans but i've never liked Anna Stesia) but the band were just incredible. [How come no one's mentioning Candy in their posts?? The woman is SEX as far as I'm concerned. Hard to not keeping watching her rather than P!] And what about that soundcheck?? That was just so trippy. I've never seen him that playful and relaxed - even at aftershows. My only moan would be the God is Love bit at the end. It all got a bit preachy and i'm sorry but as much as I love the guy and his music, I don't share his beliefs. If I want a sermon, I'll go to church. I didn't like it at Lovesexy 14 years ago and it kinda spoiled the flow last night for me too. But f*ck, the other 2 and half hours wre great. All of my hang-ups have gone. How I wish you felt the same.

Lst nights show was amazing. Peace and much kudos to the folks who performed so great at the soundcheck. When P played a little of the ladder at souncheck iyt brought tears to my eyes. The jokes and oneliners were great.
The highlight for me was Anna Stasia - first time I've seen him play it live. Before the song he spoke about how music is art and to progress up the ladder we had the ask the hard questions. Before commencing the song he mentioned 'these troubled times' When the song finished, he restarted with a clap your hand chant and a call for salvation. P mentioned he turned to the bible to help him answer the hard questions in life - it worked for me and was a great closure
