For real? Well constructs like "Miss Black USA" exist because a level playing field doesn't exist. To take that specific example further, within a competition ran and judged by a majority of whites, other standards of beauty are unlikely to be best critiqued. | |

True regarding it creates greater divides but people want to feel comfortable and confident in how they'll be perceived, it's catch 22. Many would argue the rare wins are pre-conceived token gestures as in the eventual record breaking case where Halle Berry get's an oscar for being playing an exploited weak character sex object and Denzel get's one for playing the part of a corrupt police officer. Where were the plaudits when he gave performance of his life as the scary Malcolm X... | |
