Physically, I will rot slowly. Spiritually, I might enter in the afterworld or come back as someone else. Who knows. _______________________________________________________________________________________ You can hate me for who I am, cuz I won't be something that i'm not.

Things will go back to the way they were before you were born: A world without you. Our presence has a beginning (conception/birth) and an ending (death). To imagine a "spirit life" after death is wishful thinking.

I agree that an afterlife is very unlikey, but the world doesn't revert to what it was before you. You may die, but whatever impact you've had on the world remains and continues to have effects.

So I guess it was / there will be NOTHING. I wasn't clear. Our short presence leaves a mark on humanity - some leave bigger legacies than others. The world changes continuously and events are set in motion by our short lives, but there is no "life force" or "spirit" that lingers or travels somewhere upon death. I compare this state of nothingness to that of the time before our conception (or birth). No awareness before life. None after life. It ends. The religious are amazing optimists. when i die my spirit will go to be with the Lord and at a later time God will resurrect my body. Then go on to live in eternity with my God. Peace and Love!

I thought this topic was a bit depressing, but until I read your post, I like your way of thinking, whether right or wrong it gives me comfort, but if there is no afterlife we will be dead, right? so how will we know? I like to think there is another life or life after death, that we will be reincarnated, but as there is no real proof, we shall have to love the life we live and love the people we share this time with. Anyone who is willing to do the research will find that at the Fifth Ecumenical Council, Christian leaders from many denominations of faith decided to remove all references to reincarnation from the Bible. This was man's attempt to govern people under man's rule. They did not want people to believe that God gave anyone a second chance at salvation. They wanted people to fear the Lord and to get it right the first time. i am not sure if this was the first time that the Bible was altered, but it is a very good example of how and why people have changed the wording in the Bible to suit their own beliefs and desires. The Association of Research and Enlightenment can aid in this search for anyone interested.

I don't know and that scares me sometimes. Physically we all know what happens to our bodies. My soul, spirit, my life experiences, everything that broke my heart and everything that lifted it up again; I probably won't remember them and that notion makes me sad.

When I die I will return to dust, I will no longer be conscious of anything at all. My hope is in the promise of a resurrection. Where, God willing, I will again be a living breathing, walking, talking, thinking human being. [This message was edited Sat May 3 17:15:30 PDT 2003 by SisterGirl]

Nothing ' cause I' ve got a looong life on Earth to do something..; I don' t think ther' s something... Especially not a big old beared God who' ll judge me.. I don' t need a faith to know what to do..to be against death penalty; I ' m a human being and our natural awareness tells us what' s good and wrong. Religions only beget wars ... I used to be a christian but too see Bush pray before going to a commitee which is to authorize atomic weapons really fills me with anger. Jesus was a cool guy...But He told us to live the moment...His last words puzzle me: "Why did You live me behind Father?" We' ve got one life.. that' s a gift Don't need a second after death...I'm a vegeterian, just one question: do you think your lamb or beef in your plate has a second life? La force tranquille

I'd like to keep my awareness of self. That I exist and I know that I exist would be nice. I'd like to not be alone for eternity, I'd like to remember what music was and what it sounded like, what color was, what it felt like to be forgiven, what it felt like to love, and what it felt like to be loved. People say life is what you make it. How about afterwards? What if it can be whatever you wish it to be. Anything. That would be enough for me. Me and Miles Davis in a cafe having a good conversation. That should be a good beginning but with my luck I'll probably be reborn and have to do life all over again. Damn it. [This message was edited Sat May 3 16:20:06 PDT 2003 by NovaAngel] WOW!! That was AMAZING!! So eloquent. It literally brought a tear to my eye!! I heard someone say that would really suck if we just died and that was it. Then what would have been the point of our life? True..would've seemed like a waste of time. But, for myself, I believe there are many Gods, (but I pray only to one), and every faith has a different interpretation of the afterlife...so if whatever you believe in, then that is what will happen to you. If you believe in Heaven or hell, then that is where you'll go. Dust? Than so shall you be it. Reincarnaion?? Just hope the world is a kinder place when you return. Why should there be only one answer? I think most of us aren't really afraid of dying, more so than 1. the way we die, and 2. not knowing what happens. Is it scary?? Yes! But, I agree with te person I mentioned at the begining. If that's all there is to it, then what was the whole point in the first place?
