You didn't specify if you meant legally or not, so I'll address both aspects.

In the great United States of America, there are many examples where people are legally held responsible for what could have happened.

Terrorists planning bombings and mass shootings have been arrested and imprisoned before they were able to carry out the attacks.

Anybody who attempts to kill someone but fails is charged with Attempted Murder.

Anybody who calls in a fake bomb threat to a public or private building is charged.

I could go on and on.

As for the Court of Public Opinion, the entire world holds Jussie accountable for his intentions and the possible outcome if he had gotten away with it. It's not the waste of police resources or the lying to police that has billions of people pissed off at Jussie, it's the riots and retaliatory attacks that could have happened if he had gotten away with it.

Um... not where I live. shrug and no one is talkign about this anymore - the college scandal is the focus in the news cycle. Anyone who is still following Smollett this closely are like the people who like to go to public hangings. Dude is a trainwreck and got caught. There was no race riot and Captain Marvel made untold millions at the box office.

You forget to mention one thing:
The terrorists and killers you refer to, they have (had) the intention to kill but it soemhow failed/was prevented.

Smollet's 'performance' , I assume, was not intended to start a race war. His objectives were personal (monetary?) benefits

Going after him for the possibility that his action might have lead to a race war, is just as stupid as going after you because you held a sharp kitchen knife in your hand. Ultimately, you could have killed somebody with it. rolleyes

I don't buy the money angle at all. Sure he wanted more fame which would have led to more fortune, but the dude has a history of lying his ass off therefore his actions speak a lot louder than his words.

And his actions showed that he wanted to start a racial and political fire, that's why he made up the parts about the attackers being white Trump supporters. He knew damn well if he had gotten away with it, there'd likely have been riots and retaliation and other forms of violence and destruction against whites and conservatives.

Again, he could have pulled off the hoax without the racial and political elements that he added to the fake story. As he himself said, "I don't need some MAGA hat as the cherry on top of a racist sundae." Ironically he would have been more believable if he had left those elements out.

This is a fantastic interview with John McWhorter about the Jussie case that truly explains why Jussie did what he did. McWhorter is highly intelligent and well respected, and he absolutely nails it.

For those who truly want to understand the reasons behind the hoax, it's a must see video.

Fascinating breaking story about County State's Attorney Kim Foxx. She was asked by an attorney who is a friend of Rahm Emanuel's wife to have Chicago PD drop the Jussie case. eek eek And the same attorney also happens to be Michelle Obama's former chief of staff. eek eek

Thank God the Obamas aren't still in office, otherwise Jussie's case might have already been swept under the rug.

https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/columnists/kass/ct-met-jussie-smollett-kim-foxx-kass-20190314-story.html

It is an account of how Foxx was contacted in the Smollett case by a politically connected lawyer close to Chicago’s most prominent political families, the Obamas and Emanuels.

That lawyer, Tina Tchen, was chief of staff for former first lady Michelle Obama, and she is a friend of Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s wife, Amy Rule. Tchen was apparently a go-between for someone in the Smollett family.

There was literally an “omg” moment in the texts, because Foxx did what was asked of her:

She lobbied Chicago police Superintendent Eddie Johnson to drop the Smollett case and push it over to the FBI.

You're too hard on yourself my friend. biggrin

Just because you had forgotten Jussie was in that movie, it doesn't mean you lied. You just made a simple mistake. Lots of people unknowingly give wrong information, but they weren't lying. Donald Trump is a perfect example of this, he gives a LOT of wrong information ... but he doesn't lie because he thinks what he says is the truth.

In the words of the great George Costanza, "It's not a lie if you believe it" wink

NAACP is under pressure to not be total hypocrites, they need to remove Jussie's nomination for an "Image Award" ASAP.

https://www.thewrap.com/naacp-image-awards-drop-jussie-smollett-nomination/

“It would be nothing short of a slap in the face to those civil rights heroes for the NAACP to now honor Smollett with an Image Award while he’s suspected of using symbols of racial barbarism — including a noose — to shamelessly advance and promote his career,” Project 21’s Jerome Hudson said in a statement.

Meanwhile the world continues to be riveted by this fascinating story of epic douchery. Both threads here have a combined nearly 20,000 views eek excited

Superb article explaining why Jussie will go down in history for his actions, even though many others have faked hate crimes:

https://www.nationalreview.com/2019/02/why-would-jussie-smollett-do-this-they-cried/

Stelter was a toddler when a black teen named Tawana Brawley made up a story about six white men raping her, smearing her with feces, scrawling “KKK” and “n****r” on her torso with charcoal, and leaving her in a trash bag. He has lived nearly his entire life in the era of hate-crime hoaxes. He surely remembers the Duke-lacrosse gang-rape hoax of 2006, the University of Virginia gang-rape hoax of 2014, the incident just after Trump’s election when a woman on the New York City subway claimed drunken white men had ripped off her hijab. There are lots of other examples. Hey, do you remember as far back as January, when an Indian man tried to portray himself as the victim of a hateful mob of Trump-backing teenage goons? George Will once wrote of campuses, “When they make victimhood a coveted status that confers privileges, victims proliferate.” When the media can be relied upon to credit hysterics and axe-grinders the way campus administrators do, America effectively becomes a vast campus.

The reasons for Smollett’s hoax didn’t boggle anyone’s mind, assuming that the mind in question was functioning above the level of someone who eats a bowl of lead-paint chips for breakfast. In America, victimhood is currency. It is easily converted into actual currency, and if Smollett had gotten away with his hoax, he had every reason to expect that his vastly increased celebrity would have led to the salary bump Chicago police said he wanted from his show Empire.
