UN Climate Panel: We are so screwed.

We need to do something about climate now or we will not make it:

Regulations would "just be clunky"? That's genius. How bout making the planet unlivable through pure unaduterated greed? Pretty clunky too. And just one part of the enviornmental catastrophe we are facing. What happened to don't shit where you live?

They have been saying we have 5 years or else for decades... We will be fine...the earth is fine. This is just another wild eyed conspiracy to try to control people and gain power and wealth. It is also anti women's right to choose.
Anyone for banning the AR15 must be on the side of the criminal as once banned only criminals will have them.

The problem with this thinking is that you have to believe we have unlimited resources. We don't. You have to think that when we release gases and other pollutants into a sealed space that it will not have an effect on the clean air in that same sealed space. Which is false. Take a glass with clean air, and blow smoke into that glass, what happens? The clean air within it becomes smoky. Or take a balloon filled with clean air and blow smoke into it, what happens? The smoke doesn't just magically disappear, it mingles with the clean air, until there is no clean air left. To even think that we can continue to add pollutants to the air, to our atmosphere, and that will not have a negative impact is naive and wishful thinking. It's much easier to believe it won't have an impact so that you can have an excuse to continue to live your life without worry of the consequences. But ya know what? All actions have consequences.

My son is in Kaifeng China now. The readings on their weather are never cloudy, sunny, or windy--just unheathly air quality to very unhealthy air quality. But they are working dilligently to cut down their dependence on fossil fuels.

I know lots of people disagree with nuclear and here in the US natural gas is much cheaper than trying to build the new gen (AP1000) of reactors that have just come on line in China (one of Bill Gates' projects). The four to be built here in the US have mostly been scrapped because of cost over runs--regulatory stuff which is reduntant upon redundancy.

But I believe in the faster developing third world countries that nuclear may meet the power needs much cleaner that the fossil fuels while they continue to refine wind and solar to be able to store the power generated from the two.

Most of the US Nuclear sites have been granted another 20 years of license to run so we've got these 70s models to keep maintained with parts that are no longer manufactured and have to be special made (higher cost to retrofit). It's a bitch when something goes wrong, but there are not greenhouse gasses! Chernobyl could never happen here because we don't use hybrid reactors (produces power and weapons grade plutomuin and reactor is unstable). Siunce 2011 US plants have had to design some sort of Fukashima disaster deterrant and I haven't heard how successful that has been.

Ever flown over the Artic Circle in the summer? It's a jaw dropper!!!!

No they haven't and not it isn't. Move along now and hug your flag for comfort, you're running out of friends. Even the heads of Oil companies, who had all this worked out in the 80's, are realizing that denial as a strategy to make money has run its course:

Yes they have. Ever since the Club of Rome in the 1970s, this "we only have a little time left" rhetoric has been used. And now it's being used to make people feel guilty about eating meat or flying airplanes. I can't help but feel some protestant Christian ideology here: we all have to pay for our sins, so we can go to heaven! Heaven being a clean Earth in this case. I'm all for that, renewable energy, clean up the plastic soup in the oceans, protect wildlife, yes, yes, yes! But please stop making it seem as if the Apocalyps is coming if we don't all become vegetarians real quickly.
Not directed at you, jaawwn, but sometimes this is the way this whole climate change debate is going on and I'm getting a little tired of that. The denial strategy isn't working and I'm happy with that, but the Apocalyps-is-coming strategy isn't working for me either.
I may disagree with everything you say, but I will defend your right to say it.

I hear you, no one likes a scold and apocalyptic talk is just that at the next level. There's plenty of things that can be done but telling people off or acting like 1999 is playing in real life is never gonna encourage them to change their ways.
