There is the little problem of North Korea NOT honoring even ONE concession they agreed to make in the last 25 years. It could very well be the old "you knew I was a snake when you let me in" story. Kim Jong Un may be doing it just to meet Trump because he's a reality TV fanboy. Let's not forget he eats family members for breakfast.

You know Jr Kim hasn't been leading his nation for 25 years. And we can't judge Obama or Trump or Bush as being the same. And if we do not believe a nation to ever change what's the point of ever talking? Is Germany the same now as it was in 1942? Is Japan? Is Italy?

Things change. If you believed they never do then we're all stuck.

Trump imposed the heaviest sanctions on any country in history, targetting fuel supply. That is why Kim is meeting with Trump.

Where in my post did I say Things never change? Subject has variables. This ain't 'Sugar Mountain'.

Daily Mail Jan 3. 2014

Stripped naked, thrown into a cage and torn apart by 120 starving dogs: How Kim Jong Un had 'scum' uncle executed

  • A pack of 120 starving dogs were set on Jang Song Thaek and five aides
  • Kim Jong-Un and 300 officials watched horrific execution
  • Punishment, called 'quan jue', or execution by dogs, lasted an hour
  • Uncle was accused of treachery and corruption by the brutal regime
  • Kim has carried out a 'massive purge' of threats to consolidate his grip

Oh, and his half-brother too, no problem...

The leaders of North Korea have wanted to meet with every. single. American president for the last 30 years. They have all refused for obvious reasons. This idiot has no idea what he has agreed to. Fuck him.

I read something today that stated the reason why Kim has wanted to meet with American Presidents is because it gives him validity as a leader of his people, and puts him on equal footing with the president. Presidents have declined to meet with him in the past, because by declining to do so, they have kept Kim on a lower rung of the political power ladder.

He is the leader of NK. Who else has validity to represent the nation? That’s a foolish argument by whoever is making it.

No previous president has given Kim the legitimacy of being a world leader. Kim is much like Trump in his need to be "liked", to be seen as a power player, in his need for adulation. Kim wants to be seen as a legitimate world player. That will give him bargaining power. That will give him the right to demand the same rights and considerations that all the global leaders get. It gives him an advantage at the bargaining table. Other presidents have not wanted to give Kim that legitimacy. They have not wanted to give him that perceived notion of his own power as a global leader. It may cause more damage than it solves in the long run.

Nothing foolish about it. A meeting with an American president would validate his regime internationally; take away the pariah status of North Korea and make it look "normal" to the rest of the world. This argument does make sense.
I may disagree with everything you say, but I will defend your right to say it.

Some think the argument that anything positive will come out of this is bananas (for anyone but Kim Jong Un). All I read is you telling us we're wrong. This discussion needs something besides blind hope, opinion and blustering.

It doesn't matter why. It doesn't matter that I dislike Trump. It matters that these two are getting together.
If something close to better relations occurs, then major props to both Trump and Kim.

Them and all of us. The people of NK the US Japan and everyone else. All we have to lose is it not working out. And not working out is what we have now, so what is there to lose?

What exactly do you think there is to work out? Specificlly. Not just that there is nothing to lose by getting together. What news stories are you reading? What do you want us to get from North Korea, and how?

Trump going into this meeting, insulting Kim, and starting WWIII. Not much riding on this at all. And you know Trump will find a way to be insulting to Kim. IF Kim decides that whatever Trump says to him is an act of war, Russia and China will get involved. Russia is already flexing their muscles, blatantly assassinating two individuals in the UK. He knows America is weak right now, and that he has a President that will not do or say anything against them, so he feels empowered to be more aggressive. Trump insults NK, there won't be anything to hold Russia back or China back. And to be honest, at this point, I think Trump is trying to get us in a war.
